Acer launching 3D laptop in October, nerd specs required
3D laptops? Sure, why the hell not... after seeing a desktop shoved into a vase at Computex we guess anything goes. According to Campbell Kan, VP of mobile computing at Acer, we can expect a 15.6-inch Aspire 3D laptop by the end of October. The laptop will run Windows 7 and support native 3D content (something that's becoming steadily more available) while running software that converts 2D content into 3D with presumably mediocre effect. Unfortunately, viewers must wear those bulky, stereoscopic glasses for the full experience. But if anyone stares, just frantically scribble something into a Moleskin with a deep furrowed brow -- they'll assume you're an artist. A glasses-free version is in the works too though that's TBD if you want to wait.

15.6 inch? Let me guess it's screen ratio is 16:9? Can't imagine having to always wear glasses to use my laptop though.
enjoy your headaches
I remember when my Friend told me about 3D TVs 2 years ago. I wouldn't have expect them I computers for a while.
But I think after a while yours eyes aregoing to start hurting.
wow, my eyes hurt already.
That's stupid.
WTF, this is not 3D. Acer is a stoopid company with stoopid vision. Someone should teach them the deference between 3D and Blur.
If they were using a Mac and Photoshop they would know better.
Flame bait much?
It's blurry because you're not wearing the glasses, but feel free to ignore this and please continue talking about completely unrelated things.
Did he say something important? I stopped reading the comment at the second "stoopid"
3D laptops have been around for a while.

Sharp PC-RD3D from back in 2003 had an auto-stereoscopic display that did not require glasses.
The trouble with autostereoscopic displays is that they have a limited viewing angle, and if you're far enough out of the sweet spot, you only get 2D. That's not too bad on a laptop, mind you.
Im sorry but if you have to wear glasses to see 3d then it is RUBBISH, come back when you have true 3D.
.
That doesn't even make sense - how does wearing glasses make this not 3D? For that matter, what do you consider to be true 3D then?
Launching in October... but where? Americas, Europe, Asia... ?
On the upside, they seem to be circular polarising filters instead of shutter glasses (which are currently making a comeback in PC games for no readily appreciable reason), which greatly reduces the cost and bulk. Any set of RealD glasses should, in principle, work.
This looks like it works the same way as the IZ3D monitors, which use polarized glasses (does not require shutter glasses) that are more or less like normal sunglasses ("bulky stereoscopic glasses" Mr Ricker? Methinks you haven't looked at the photo you included with the post...).
One problem with this though is that unless they have a decently beefy 3D card/chip in the laptop, the 3D feature will be pretty much useless, and once you add a nice 3D solution, goodbye battery life.
As for everybody who says "OMG EYE HURTZ", have any of you seen one of the recent 3D movies like Up, Monsters VS Aliens, or Bolt? If your eyes didn't hurt then, they're not likely to hurt from solutions like this.
lol @ the name Campbell Kan
thats awesome
though im not so sure the same goes for this concept...we'll have to see
Wonder what this will do for porn.
Slightly want.
