Kodak ending KODACHROME run after 74 years, still can't get that Paul Simon song out of its head
Kodachroooome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Kodak estimates supplies of existing stock will run out sometime in early fall. Don't forget to hum that cool acoustic guitar riff in between the verses. You're welcome.

Damn i remember these since i was like a baby.
RIP
Double damn. I'm currently scanning my old Kodachrome slides, and they blow away my DSLR.
double double damn. For your sake I hope digital ICE works a little better these days on Kodachrome than it did a few years back.
I was worried about that (I last tried with ICE 2 or 3), but ICE4 seems to work really well on Kodachrome.
I hope this isn't a double post.
I haven't used it since ICE3... it acted as though it thought the thick emulsion was dust and just blurred the crap out of the image. really sucked since most of the stuff people brought me to be scanned was from 40 years ago and was kept in a dusty shoebox. Glad they got that addressed just in time for Kodachrome to go the way of the buffalo.
Well, just because you won't b able to create new images doesn't mean you can't rescan the old images.
They're coming out crystal clear, I'm using a Nikon 5000 scanner.
Oh, uh, yeah. Coolscan 5000s are discontinued now, too....
The times, they are a-changin'
Triple Damn. DO NOT BREAK THIS COMBO
QUAD DAMNAGE.
Fipple Damn.. i just started buying film :(
Sextuple Damn damnity damn damn damn damn.
As much as I love my DSLR, this is sad.
But is this really as sad as losing Polaroid? I don't think so...
Of course, I've never used Kodachrome.
Kodachrome was perhaps not as widely used at the consumer level as Polaroid, but "serious" photographers all over the world are mourning this loss.
There's a particular saturated quality to the color of Kodachrome prints that has never quite been translated digitally.
Polaroid is american thing, rarely used outside apart from passport photos. Kodachrome outsold polaroid in europe by really wde margin.
instant gratification and cheap removable storage ftw.

haha...that was awesome. hadn't seen that before.
Plus 1 for the vid....LOL
"...and Celine Dion will be singing the theme song while riding along on a unicorn!" lmao
i thought that was Fred Thompson for about 15 secs.
Mama gonna take my Kodachrome, mama gonna take my Kodachrome, mama gonna take my Kodachrome awaaaaayyyy. . . .
You're welcome too
it's "momma don't take my kodachrome away"
Paul Simon kicks ass.
Who sang that song?
let's keep it that way
@Greg
The OP poster knew that. He changed the words.
Man, the second I saw the word Kodachrome, I had that stupid song in my head. There goes the rest of my day.
Man what a shame...
I felt this way when Velvia 50 was pulled, sad day indeed- you can keep all the DSLR's - when it comes to image quality, colours, a 3D punch and that original 'feel' a scanned slide is the way to go.
I'll go and play with my 5D MK2 now :)
I still love Velvia. But if I'm gonna eat Velvia, don't try to slip me none of that Velvia Light crap.
Shake it, shake it like a Polaroid picture...
...oh, sorry, wrong generation.
Outkast has been around for a long time son... 20 years now.
What generation where you referring to?
Paul Simon is to the 1960s and 1970s as Outkast is to the 1990s and 2000s (BTW Outkast signed in 1992 - they've only been together 17 years, not 20).
Paul Simon is to the Baby Boomer Generation as Outkast is to Generations X,Y, and Z.
Two bands, two different generational ideals...
(... that's way too much explanation for what should have been obvious)
Just for those of you who can't be bothered to read the full article. Kodak is not discontinuing all film. Only the Kodachrome brand, which the article says makes up less than 1% of all their film sales. So unless you are among the rare few who are buying that %1 of the massively reduced total film sales...no big deal. If you are among that rare few, well, I guess you are screwed. Sorry 'bout that.
Yeah, that's where I end up. I guess my freezer is about to be stocked up before I can't find it anywhere.
The 1%, I mean. ;)
lmao that video is hilarious.i thought it was gonna be boring at first then he started hyping up and it got interesting lol
Kodachrome is one of those films I've never tried. I guess I don't have much time left to buy a roll or two.
Kodachrome has colors and resolution that many current DSLR cameras cannot touch. Dwayne's Photo is the only place left in america that can still process the stuff, so get some while you still can and cherish every precious shot.
What do Gary Glitter & Kodachrome have in common?..
Great film, but it's amazing that it has survived until this day. There is only ONE lab in the US that still processes it. I think it's in Kansas.
rock chalk jayhawk !!
I don't think Kodachrome is in Kansas anymore, Toto.
Yup, Parson's Kansas. Guy has been in business since the 50's

Most analog photographers I know switched to Fujichrome Velvia a long time ago. For years nobody could process Kodachrome except Kodak, and who wanted to risk sending their slides to Washington, D.C. (or wherever) for two weeks just to get them developed?
From what I heard, you chose Kodachrome for the blues, and Velvia for the greens.
they still made this stuff
Sign of the times- and if you have a solid 35mm dSLR above 20 megapixels, you are just fine.
Paul Simon is short
Film hoarders, Dwayne's will only continue processing until the end of 2010, so you better shoot quickly...
I just checked, looks like Fujichrome is still available, so shouldn't be a problem...
BTW how are kodak surviving exactly? printers maybe? because it surely can't be digital photo frames...
