Can't wait until July to check out every nook and cranny of
T-Mobile's version of the
Ion /
Magic? A couple of tipsters, including one anonymously, have lent us a hand in that department with pictures of an apparent
myTouch 3G unboxing, as well as an entire user guide dating back to May 19th. We're still rummaging through it ourselves, but so far we're not seeing anything we didn't already know or see for ourselves with the phone's many other releases. Completionists can hit up the 113-page manual in the gallery below.
[Thanks, Derek]
IN FOR ONE! Does anyone know if this one has more ram and faster cpu than G1? It's beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it has more RAM and internal memory, but the CPU is the same.
Processor is the same.
RAM has been upped to 288MB (If they keep the same config as the Magic)

Why the hell is this moving my comment the wrong place...damn Engadget
Hmmm, they could have beefed up the processor if you asked me. Though none the less, this is a great looking phone. However, they took out the 5 mpx camera, and there's still no 3.5 mm head jack. And I'm never going to use another adapter as long as I live. I'll see what the Huawei, Samsung, and Motorola Androids before I make my final decision.
Look in the specs in the user manual. 192 MB of ram. Same as g1. Actually the internals seem to be exactly the same as the g1. So they removed the hardware keyboard and made it look pretty. That's it.
I'm a die hard iPhone hater, but I see no reason to get this (other than the Android OS) over the 16gb iPhone considering the specs are much better and the price is the same.
This looks almost exactly like the HTC Ion that gave us at Google I/O 2009. It's an awesome phone, I absolutely love it, been using it for a while now.
Double the ram of the G1, same cpu.
/me is jealous
wow... this comment system is really really hosed... my reply was supposed to be on @Howard's post
Howard. I hate you.
Battery extender? It makes it look like a Wiimote with those 4 lights.
If there's no 3.5mm headphone jack on this, then T-Mobile is officially the dumbest company in the world.
It's HTC, not T-Mo doing the stupid there.
T-Mobile's branding of the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1 as they call it) and HTC Magic (T-Mobile myTouch 3G) really confuse the average consumer (OP makes a good example). I wish they didn't do this and just stuck with one name for a phone. Very unnecessary.
I went to tmo the day it was announced to grab a G1 to see if I'd like Android. The plan was to return it within the 14 day window and go from there.
Now I'm conflicted though, I straight up love this G1. I'm coming off an iPhone, and I had no idea how much further ahead Android was than OSX. The thing is I've used keyboard a ton even after only a day of use. It's such a relief to go back to hardware keys, and I didn't realize how much I missed it. I would stick with the G1, but awesome though it is, the battery blows. I think I'm going to have to go back to waiting on the G1 revision 2.
There's going to be a killer T-Mobile Android phone very soon, and it will come in the form of a revised G1 with better battery life, memory, and a 3.5 mm jack. I don't think the MyTouch is going to cut it.
G1 is an excellent phone, especially if you root it. I'm doing the same thing, I refuse to buy a replacement Android phone without a keyboard.
Well I love my phone, but I'm not gonna have sex with it...
i would return it for this, more ram and updated OS Rosie
The rosie UI isn't on the mytouvh, its on the HTC hero. And besides, you can run the Rosie build on a G1 anyway.
@digitallysick, there is no reason to turn it for the updated UI, Android updates are free and are pushed to the phones, the only reason to upgrade an Android phone would be either the phone design (keyboard, no keyboard, etc) or the phone internals (speed, etc).
I Just wish my G1 Had a Battery Extender ._.
Actually, if you bend one end of the charger on the G1 / Ion you can use it with some of the Motorola accessories, I would check that out if I were you.
can i buy some pot from you?
T-Mobile provided me with the worst 2 months of service anyone can imagine. I highly suggest finding another carrier before ever considering T-Mobile.
After 3 weeks, T-Mobile charged me $540 + for services and hardware I did not order. It took 8 hours on the phone, 3 faxes, and a complaint with the BBB over the course of a month to finally get the issues resolved. It took 7 phone calls and over a month to get them to discontinue my service after they shafted me like that. EVERY single time I called them they promised me the service would be discontinued on a specific date. Three days after that date I was still hastling with them.
I was EXTREMELY happy to pay the eraly termination fee and put them in my past.
Their customer service has to be the worst in the world. Every one of their reps will apologize up and down and empathize with your situation. They will promise to fix the problem and half the time they will only make the problem worse.
I considered buying a GPS tracking device recently until I found out T-Mobile hosted the service. When I discovered that fact, I immediately put the notion out of my head.
T-Mobile has to be the worst company in the business in the US.
FU$ you T-Mobile.
Really Timm? Really? After 3 weeks, T-Mobile just decided to randomly charged you $540, for no reason?
If I may: maybe you haven't considered all the possibilities here.
For example, are you sure you're not just an idiot who didn't bother reading WTF you signed up for? Hmmm?
As an employee for a company that shall remain nameless, if I had a dollar for every dipshit like you that didn't pay attention to what they were clicking on, I could retire.
That's odd...that sounds more like my dealings with AT&T
New charge every 2 weeks, and no one ever touched the plan =\
$540? Really? I find that hard to believe being that they have a 30 day return policy.... which means they don't charge you to get out of the contract or the equipment if you return it.
does it have an iron? your photographer needs it for his backdrop!
How did you know I'm a stoner...fuckin stalker.
Processor is the same.
RAM has been upped to 288MB (If they keep the same config as the Magic)
eww... it is the 'with google' version of android
But it's being reported all over that it will have things such as Exchange...
"with Google" is the best version, since that means it has no carrier interference.
I agree with TheGM. I just got the HTC Dream from Rogers and it's not a "With Google" version. Rogers added a bunch of shortcuts to Ringtones and Ringbacks and crap like that and they removed the on-screen keyboard from Cupcake.
it sucks that the carriers have added bloat... but it is against the 'google experience' terms to add exchange support... which I would need for work.
At least, that is what BGR says: http://www.intomobile.com/2009/05/25/rogers-htc-magic-and-dream-to-come-with-exchange-support.html
So, if that has changed... and a 'with google' phone starts sporting exchange, then I would agree that carrier interference is better to deal with than google interference... google excluding a feature is as bad as rogers adding some...
Much nicer looking then the G1. I kinda like it.
It looks nice. But for some reason those buttons irk me. They look too out of place on that design if you ask me.
Actually, they are really nice. However, I sometimes accidently hit the power/end button when I am in a call to bring the screen back up instead of the "backstack" button, I think it's cause my fingers are used to the G1 buttons.
No 3.5mm jack = no deal :(
At least it comes with an adapter to go from the "proprietary" adapter to the 3.5mm jack (at least the Ion we got at Google I/O did).
myTouch comes packaged with microphone dongle that works with any 1/8" headphones.
you as troll = fail
I actually do not believe this is trolling. For many people (myself included), having a built in headphone jack is a big deal. I have seen multiple dongles break in the past, and having a separate part to listen to music or attach headphones is not ideal for most people.
Yeah, all the good hackers post "first" comments.. tool.
Use A2DP Bluetooth Stereo instead. You can use your own 3.5 mm headphones for a lot of models. Get the ones with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and 2.1 + EDR for better clarity and range.
myTouch, myBallz, whatever!
This is a fingerprint magnet, no 3.5mm, and essentially last year's technology. No go, I'll wait for the Samsung i7500.
Great idea! That way you can get the bloated Verizon / Sprint OS! The one thing I like about T-Mobile is they didn't even begin to bloat the Android OS on the G1 when they released it. However, all the big carriers may bring out Android phones, but they will do stupid stuff to it like lock down certain features (like AT&T locked down GPS nav until recently) and other stupid stuff.
Actually the i7500 should be coming to T-Mobile. It has already passed FCC with this info.
So I'm assuming all we're waiting on is so they won't have multiple new Android phones at the same time. The roadmap has it slated for Aug-Sep.
Maybe they're just tweaking the MyFavs app for it?
Why is it taking T-Mobile so long to release it if they already have everything sorted out? The phone is finished, the box is finished, the manual is finished. WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG?????????
