Philips' first Android endeavor, the V808, caught on camera?

Not a ton of details to be found here, but the first shots of what certainly appears to be Philips' first Android handset have emerged from China. The V808, as it's called, certainly looks Androidy enough, with a 3.2-inch, HVGA display, and it will supposedly boast a 3.2 megapixel camera and video recording. In Philips fashion, we can probably expect to see it Xenium branded, but as yet, we have no other details on specs, pricing, or availability, and sadly the phone isn't powered on in any of the photos. There are two more images after the break -- hit the read link for the whole set.

I love android but will pass on this one
Agreed.... meh.
Looks likes eww mixes with uh!?!
screen should be bigger, quite alot of wasted space
That area around the center(home) button seems to be the gesture area like the ones seen in HTC Touch Pro/Fuze.
If they can make a smart use of that space, they can attract 'Fat Fingers' that just can't seem to press o instead of p.
"HVGA display"
Whatever that means.
The rest of us stopped using BS abbreviations for graphics modes in the mid-'90s, Engadget. Remember CGA, EGA, Super VGA?
State the resolution IN NUMBERS.
It means Half-VGA I presume. VGA is 640x480 so H must be 320x480. Which it is (Crappy).
It looks ok. Hopefully they'll release some real specs soon and we can see how it stacks up against the competion.
philip doesn't exite me very much..
Who's philip?
yea dude stick to the topic
If you want to get excited by Philips, look out for their relationship products...or just pimp the phone to make better use of the vibration function :-)
I own a magic and i can say these android phones are doing nothing to stand out.
all have HVGA screens, 3.2 camera, usually the same processor-
I love my magic, but the only android phone i would buy right now is the Samsung Galaxy on account of the great screen.
but everything else G1, magic, hero, and chances are this one. all have the same specs.
I guess we have to wait for snapdragon do kick phone makers in gear.
move along nothing to see.
I disagree, having recently picked up a HTC Hero, I have to say I'm really impressed with the build quality and design of it in comparison to the previous Android efforts from HTC. Only gripe is the placement of the back button, and the occasional hardware lags.
The big difference though, is the software. Android out of the box just isn't as refined or mature as it could be, and HTC have done a really good job with their "Sense UI" at taking steps towards that goal.
This Phillips phone obviously isn't even going to be a contender, but I'd be keen to see what Samsung do with Android to make it interesting.
I'm sincerely getting pissed!!!
I've seen all this Android crap and all these devices and not one damn thing has shown up @ Best Buy Micro-Center, Fry's or CompUSA!!!
It's getting extremely annoying... I want an iPod Touch competitor with Android and I want it now!!! Android's been out on the G1 for over a year now and you're telling me these companies can't just slap it on a few "Wifi only" devices and toss it out the door???
AND THEY ALL BETTER HAVE ACCESS TO THE ANDROID MARKETPLACE!!!
You're an idiot. I am sure that the CEO of these companies takes your meager threats seriously...
FYI the G1 has been out only about 9 months.
Buy an iPod touch and shut up, most of us want WIFI and a full functional phone, why would you want to LOSE functionality.
SHUT THE HELL UP
Well I wouldn't mind if I have an wifi device for half the price of the G1/Hero/Magic, sometimes you really don't need another phone.
so much non screen space. stupid
Where are the Menu and Back buttons?
Indeed. Thought they were mandatory for the OS to function.
Agreed this isn't Android unless they dd the home, menu and back buttons, the call and end buttons don't cut it.
I'll stick with the G1.
Ugly. New case please.
From the front it looks like a Philips brand iphone. I mean, you look at the Palm Pre, HRC Hero, or that Nokia POS that nobody talks about any more, and you can immediately tell by the physical characteristics that it isn't an iPhone. But with this one, if you cover up the Philips logo it might as well be next year's iPhone model where they remove the chrome trim.
At 115x61x14 millimeters it's quite large and bulky for having a mere 3.2 inch screen. It's as tall and wide as an iPhone, but thicker. At least you get a 3.5 inch screen with the iPhone, or if you opt for a HTC Magic (myTouch) or a Samsung Galaxy you'll get the same screen size as the Philips, but a lot less bulky dimensions.
Feels like a waste of space.
Looks exactly like the Samsung Instinct...
Thats what i thought too when i first saw.

It is not a matter of waste space but one can look towards its application. After all innovation and change is ongoing process.
As a user of a horrible philips 535 ages ago i wish someone simply takes away philips's right to make cellphones, they should NEVER make a cellphone again!
If it never gets turned on or off how do you know it runs android ? Without a back button I would assume WinMo
I'm not speaking to CEO's...
You're right about the 9 months...
And....
Guess what???
I do have an iPod Touch (1 & 2)... And I've had a Zune, Mylo 1 & 2, N800, Omnia, iPAQ 111 an XpressMusic 5800, e71, a PSP (1000-2000-3000) and an Archos 605, Archos 5...
And losing CDMA/HSPDA functionality for me isn't an issue since I can tether any device up to my cellphone via Wifi or Bluetooth...
WOAH DUDE AWESOME U MUST BE RICH SWEET
But do you have friends?
Sounds like happiness is mighty illusive for you...
Zzzzz.
Is there some point to multiple cellphone manufacturers pooping out Android phones that all look and spec (almost) exactly the same?
Same point as used to be with the Symbian phones of old...each branded different. If you are not interested in the brand Samsung, you can help yourself to a Palm Pre or an HTC or an LG or a Philips or a Moto or some-other-gadgety-thingy. Wow, don't you enjoy this choice?
Fatmanhand ftloss.
People can't come up with another shape? Another rip off copycat!
iPhone body with the Pre's face.
What is this - the Spinal Tap "Smell the Glove" edition phone?
Funny...it looks like a KIRF PS3 "motion" controller they have been showing with the little "glowing" ball on the top in the first picture. I know it isn't, but just an observation...
