HP debuts 2709m 27-inch 16:9 display
HP's just announced its new 27-inch, 16:9 display, the 2709m. This giant puts out a native 1080p picture, and boasts two HDMI inputs, one DVI and one VGA port. With a 30,000:1 contrast ratio, we can expect the display to be nice and vivid, and it's got two built-in 2-watt speakers, and a reported response time of 5ms. The 2709m is available from HP now for $499.

before anyone asks. it is TN panel. the specs say 160/160 viewing angle.
I need more than 1920x1080 in a monitor that size. No thanks
Shitty TN panel. Pass.
I hate 27's because they're just magnified 24's.. grr..
My 17 inch laptop has 1920 x 1200. That monitor will look like crap.
Why do they even still make TN panels? The industry should have invested more in *VA and IPS technology in the past so that ALL displays could be decent.
Greatly appreciated that the comments immediately kick off addressing the panel type.
It happens all too often that it doesn't get mentioned and not everybody knows the viewing angles are an indicator.
TN panels are fine for internet and some basic tasks, but for anything else that's art intensive and even gaming, IPS and PVA panels are the way to go. I use them almost 24/7 and anytime I get on my netbook or have to spend a little time on somebody else's PC with a TN panel I can barely stand it.
i actually am looking for a monitor currently. this seems decent
don't get it, the resolution is too low for the size. you're better off spending a little more and getting a 30 or saving the cash and getting a 24
dont get it, it is shitty TN panel, your picture will look washed out, color loss is dramatic, just go find a IPS panel LCD.

I got this for a little cheaper (it was $373 yesterday) but this monitor is LESS than the 27" with a higher resolution and boasts an H-IPS monitor. If you need a new one, pick THIS HP up.
Solid/undercoverbrother
If this is anything like my w2207h I am going to be buying a couple of these very soon!
The only problem I see is the bezel is too damned big.
I want a 27" with a thin bezel for dual displays.
Agree. I'm a bit disappointed that manufacturers keep on pulling off this huge bezel game. They're not fooling anyone. My 40" Samsung has a very nice picture, and a 1-2" bezel that prevents me from placing properly in the cavity on the wall along with the other components. So it sits there at an angle and looking terrible.
This actually looks very nice.
I have to agree with carrots, when screens go beyond 24... it should have a resolution beyond 1080p... or at least something to compensate for the fact that it's the same resolution, just.. bigger. Higher resolutions! :)
You just have to place it (or sit) farther away. Which I guess defeats the purpose... Hmm.
Am I missing something or is $500 for a 27" monitor really cheap?
that is what I was thinking
um, doesn't seem cheap to me when you can get something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254026 with a better resolution for $300
Actually, this thing is wildly overpriced. Especially considering the pixel density. And the fact you can pick up a 28" 1920x1200 model from certain other manufacturers for roughly $200 less than this thing...
buy the dell 2408wfp 24". same resolution, much better panel. I think they're 520 right now.
that's because it uses a crappy TN panel
Get an HP LP2475w at onsale.com for $375. H-IPS > *VA > TN crap.
TN monitor over 24" = corner side and up/downside color changed/imbued/shifted even you are on the right center position.
Im fairly sure color shifting occurs with VA panels, not TN panels. TN lcd's have shitty color reproducting, especially due to dithering, but Im pretty sure color shifting happens with VA panels.
that looks like a very affordable price for such a big monitor
I really like this. 27' for $500 is legit.
Thats a damn big monitor!
i got a 26" ASUS for $360. the contrast ratio isn't nearly this awesome but it has a 2ms response time.
I think I like 16:10 more than 16:9.
I actually got it from HP for $360.00 with EPP Pricing and a 20% Off Coupon Code. It arrived today and will report my findings..
16:9 at this size is just plain stupid. you should go for around 16:10 so two documents can fit side by side. the only time when 16:9 would be a good option is when the screen size is only big enough to support ~1050 to 1080 pixels horizontally.
This would have the same horizontal resolution as a 1920*1200, so width wise it would be exactly the same as a 16:10 and you could fit 2 windows side by side anyways, couldnt you? Youd have to do more vertical scrolling, but that has nothing to do with the horizontal aspect.
i bought my 28 inch monitor made by Hannspree(HF289) at BB like 8 months ago for around $450. Then, there was a price change a week later and I told BB and they gave me back the difference from the sale price of $369.00 This monitor has been great for what I use it for, which is; work, gaming, and school. The best part of it all is having 2 full page web browsers open side by side or gaming on CSS in windowed mode while watching hulu.
I'd rather take a 26.5" 16:10 display than a 27" 16:9 one.
When a VA or PVA panel reaches 5ms call me.
Anyone know where to get that wallpaper?
hmm... my 22" is 1920x1080 (and the pitch is just where I like it... legible but still crisp) - I can't imagine that I'd like the same resolution, but in a monitor 5" larger...
so to everyone who is bashing this as a TN panel( and I assume would bash the VIZIO VMM26, what do you recommend for someone in the market for a 25"+ monitor?

Either one of these would be nice.
>Higher resolutions! :)
I totally sort of disagree! :)
Higher resolutions are fine, for some people. But, they are not universally better. There is a market for a lower resolution monitor. I can see my current monitor just fine. But, larger monitors are illegible. As resolution goes up, the size of objects goes down.
It seems that the larger a monitor is, the more pixels per inch. I would like the same pixel per inch count I have now, but in a larger monitor.
It may be a bit of a niche market, but there is no one servicing it. I help a lot of people who complain that they cannot read a newer monitor. I know all the tricks to zoom, enlarge fonts, larger icons etc. But, you cannot compensate on everything.
The first company that offers monitors with a lower resolution, but otherwise high quality, will make a killing.
There are an increasing number of computer users over 40 or 50 years old. Your eyes change as you age. So your needs in a monitor change.
NOW GET OFF MY LAWN YOU PUNK KIDS!!!! :-)
Just picked up this monitor yesterday. I was looking at higher resolutions side by side and honestly 1920x1080 is the perfect size for legible fonts the distance I would be sitting from the monitor. Im not sure why people think you cant put 2 documents side by side at this resolution....
I compared this side by side to the Asus 27" and Hans 27.5" and the picture quality was better. I have all the USB ports and card readers I can ask for between my keyboard and tower, so that was not a necessity for me. If you feel like looking at the COMPUTER monitor from outer space at a 180 degree angle just to say you can, that's your business. With that said, the picture quality is fantastic, amazing colors and the contrast ratio looks great with games and movies. This is a huge monitor at a great price ($360).
