Microsoft's new retail logo revealed in trademark application
You know how serious Microsoft is about those new retail stores it's currently building? New logo serious, fool. This artful rethink of the familiar Windows logo just popped up in a trademark filing saying it'll be used to identify "retail store services and online retail services" for computers, media players, cell phones, video games, and more. Sounds like this is one box you'll be seeing in person sometime soon.

Love it!
...As seen on the photos they uploaded on Friday.
This logo hurt my brain literally
Made it my desktop wallpaper. Very refreshing :)
It's nice and refreshing, but the logo looked a lot nicer in the last post about it.
for composition wise the window needs an object maybe an apple at bottom but that would detract the focus
As far as logo's go, it's not that creative, or practical.
Their current logo is fine, but when scaled down, or used in a non-color medium, this would be hard to distinguish.
Wait, sorry for the unrelated question: I have a Mac. Will I be able to use a Zune HD then, or is it only available to use for Windows users?
The 70's are back, but guess what, we've seen footage from it and the design and style was such that we aren't waiting for a return to it.
If you must have the 70's back bring back the protest against nasty pointless wars and against fascism, not the logo designs, those we don't need.
This has got to be the ugliest crap I have ever seen.
Yeah true, if I want to use a Zune HD, I should avoid getting a Mac - all PMPs work with PCs.
Isn't this the logo for "That 70s Show"?
I like this...it's refreshing and modern.
I think it's boring and generic.
If Josef Albers did the Windows logo?
Google it.
Modern? What is this the bloody 70s? That's ugly as sin - and this is coming from a person who doesn't own a mac and plans to buy a Zune HD.
@Marbles
I followed your directions and... holy crap! Excellent reference and art lesson.
I saw an interesting comment on how the logo and the store design, are reminiscent of something you would have to have been designed by a Scandinavian or relied on heavy Scandinavian influences.
Lots of bold, solid colors, and lots of warm wood colors. Very Swedish.
It may be a strategy to contrast their store's color scheme with the harsh white and blacks of the Apple store.
@Marbles: [tip of the hat]
I think it's shallow and pedantic
refreshing? possibly. however, tilt your screen about 45 degrees and it almost looks like they're trying to mimic the OS X (Apple) logo.
Why can't they just use an awesome looking image of a bad ass window? The kind of window that rides a motorcycle and doesn't call it's mother on her birthday? Now that'd be a logo I'd smack down some dollars for.
Perhaps you're not so much grumpy, as senile?
I don't see a big black X, no matter how I tilt my head.
If you unfocus your eyes through it, it looks like a very trippy tunnel
I like it too...very much gets the whole Windows thing across without the waves while actually looking more modern. Very nice.
And, it actually looks like a normal window! I guess the swirly window meant "This is your money going down the drown."
Looks like super zoom into a low res image.
This is the worst logo Microsoft has implemented in a long time, its really disappointing compared to the Zune, Bing, and Windows 7 logos which are simple yet sophisticated. This is just too boring. And this comes from a big microsoft fan.
I wish it were a bit flashier and didn't look like a quick MS Paint job :-(
The design studio hat to promise to make it using only microsoft software.
I hope they make it a 3D rotating logo on all their websites, but only after you get past the splash page of course...
It's wallpaper for shroomheads.
MAGET!
If only clippy was here to see this :(
R.I.P. Clippy :(
Haha finally an awesome comment. Just thank you! :)
Hey, no MS Bob love?
At least MS Bob was helpful when you needed it, not in your face asking you if you're writing a letter every time you start a document.

"It looks like you're trying to design a crappy revamp. Would you like much-needed help?"
But will hipsters want to put it on their cars to prove that they bought a Zune like they currently do with Apple stickers?
I hope so. I like laughing at morons who go around giving companies free advertisting.
I'll put one on my car :)
I like Microsoft
Thank you Kamokazi for some sanity. People who advertise for companies are idiots. As if they care any more about you because you are rabid for a product.
Yeah! Like those idiots who go around driving with that dumb Toyota logo on their cars all the time!
Well, if you're talking about the people who pay money for a big ass sticker that says "Toyota", and cover up half their windshield, then yes exactly.
This sticker is dangerous and inconvenient, but I do love Fig Newtons
Yea who would want to advertise a company they support so they can continue support you?
If you don't chew Big Red, then F#(k You!
@Kamokazi
Right...because you car, clothes, shoes, and phone aren't all free advertising to their respective companies.
