Suzuki Neutron 701 MNI ultranetbook mounts a 7-inch touchscreen
Suzuki, huh? No, not that Suzuki. Singapore-based Suzuki Technology Private Limited calls itself a "value for money" brand, and has stuffed quite a bit of "value" into the Neutron 701 MNI. With basic netbook parts under the hood, and a rather exceptional complement of ports (ExpressCard and S/PDIF in a netbook? Yes, please!), the 701 really sets itself apart with its swivel tablet display. Sure, 7-inches isn't a lot of room to work with when you're touching Windows, but it's a nice "twist" at least. No word on price or availability.

touch a 7-inch? WOW!
You'd like that wouldn't you?
lol
"....mounts a 7-inch..."
O_O
Another post that adds to the serious discussion here at engadget
Not another pic of the MacBook Micro...
Good to see more variety in the netbook range, not sure why you'd run windows on that thing and not something like ubuntu netbook remix though.. =)
This looks okay... I'm really just glad that it's not another 11-12" laptop masquerading as a netbook.
'cause that would suck how?
Netbooks are supposed to be small - that's kind of the point. Once you get up around 12 inches, it just seems more like an underpowered and overpriced laptop than it does an actual netbook.
For 300$ at my local best buy , I think some 11 inchers come off nice....

I'd love to see an updated version of this. The keyboard was PERFECT too....
12", while it may be small compared to the desktop-replacement trend, is really the biggest laptop I've any use for. When you think of laptops for mobile computing, and desktops (be they tower-and-monitor, or 10-pound "laptop") for desk-work, or as backends for serious work from the portables, 12-15" looks like a "normal" size to me.
The point of netbooks to many, including me, is that they permitted a transition from ogling expensive Japanese machines (most of which were never released stateside, adding to the problem), while toting a brickish 15" laptop, to owning one or even several highly-portable machines. The cost? A rather more marked performance hit vs. the highend T&Ls, but still plenty of horsepower for what I do.
A 12" machine for $500+? Great, but make it a fully-capable laptop, or better yet a convertible tablet ala HP's TX2500 and successor (can't remember the name), and I'll make it my serious-business laptop. Just _don't_ call it a netbook, and don't phase out the real netbooks -- 9" and smaller machines that I can both afford and sling under my jacket.
Oh, and this baby? Well, to be honest, even with my netbooks, I've still been ogling the Fujitsu U820 -- but I just might quit if I can get one of these. It looks mighty fine.
@Mike
great find! im looking for laptops like that. just needs windows 7 on it and that would be pretty damn sweet.
I don't think this will sell very well in the US...
suzuki??
they use a dell d600 series laptop for the home page.. What a LAME company
Macbook Micro?
WANT!
If I could somehow jerry-rig this into being a kind of secondary display, it would be kind of cool.
Not really a lot of Jerry-rigging required if you're willing to pay ~$30

Of course, I'm pretty sure there are one or two free alternatives out there. Just google "Use laptop as second disply"...
wooow, 1024x600 on a 7 inch swivel touch screen ? Right there you have more innovation than i've seen in the netbook market all year ! I don't get why tablet netbooks have to have the Atom Z though... it's like we're going backwards in processing power right where/when we needed a bit more juice to deal with touch gestures / handwriting.
Also, the 2 SODIMM sockets that support up to 4gb ram are very welcome ! Too bad 32 bit OSes will not take full advantage of that. Where on Earth did they cramp in all those ports and slots ? SATA and PATA ? The is probably the ultimate modding machine ! I'd love to see some modders take this baby to the max !
It's machines like this that make the ultraportable world go round !
From Suzuki website:
One changeable 12.7mm(H) Super-Multi ODD, PATA interface
If I'm not mistaken, this means Optical Disk Drive, as in DVD...
A 7inch with a dvd-r/rw?? I like it.
How does this compare to the http://zoostorm.com/Education/Netbooks/Fizzbook/Zoostorm_Fizzbook_Spin_8_9.html/ Fizzbook Spin? I'd very much like to see a review of the latter.
(The Spin is Intel's Classmate Tablet (or the CTL 2go) by another name, naturally.)
What (vendor supported) OS choices are available for it?
