There's something very peculiar about Sony bringing down the
PlayStation Network for "maintenance" today from noon until 2:00PM ET. Not only is that timeframe somewhat prime gaming hours for North America and Europe -- and arguably Asia, too -- but it also happens to coincide perfectly with the company's press conference at the gamescom expo in Cologne, Germany, the rumored site for the
PS3 Slim's official debut and a
price cut for the original. We've no doubt that Sony's got a handful of major announcements lined up for the event, revised console or no, and we wouldn't be surprised if the online store played into that somehow. Of course, the timing of the maintenance could all be some big coincidence, but if you ask us, the chances of that are pretty, well, slim. If we're
really lucky, maybe Sir Howard Stringer will come out and explain that
laughter-tracking patent.

Wasn't the PSP Go confirmed on the PSN before it's unveiling? Looks like Sony is making sure that doesn't happen again.
they also said that most of the psp games would be available for the psp go when it launches. i think they could be doing that at this time while the store is down.

Conference bombs?
Nothing compares to the all time conference fiasco Microsoft had at E3 2009.
First, Microsoft's 'big' announcement turns out to be a multi-platform 'action spinoff' Metal Gear Solid 'themed' game that Kojima the very next day disowns in front of the the entire gaming world and press at the Sony conference. Ouch! Epic fail Microsoft.
And then Microsoft's other 'big' announcement, their ripoff of Sony's EyeToy motion controls turns out to be mostly pre-scripted and faked. Doh!
We'll never see anyone have a bigger conference fiasco than Microsoft' Epic Fail at E3 2009.
But, yeah, giant crabs...funny.

Honestly, that conference was more sad than a fiasco for all the long time Nintendo fans, at least IMO.
I was so annoyed with Cammie at 2008 that I had to turn off the press conference, shut my laptop, and throw it out the window.

Doubtful, don't you remember them saying anyone wanting to play PS2 games should buy a PS2?
I think it's pretty likely actually, though maybe not at this press conference. It makes sense that sony want to make a profit off selling ps2s and ps3 game licences, but there will come a point where ps2 sales dip enough and the ps3 becomes more profitable, and it'll be more valuable to have the game library on the ps3. Armchair analyst out.
This is why I won't give up my original 60gb PS3 with full hardware PS2 compatibility.

Oh and I'm so excited about this Sony press conference. I think it's going to be a PS3 relaunch. The PS3 tightarse version is to be announced. Can't wait.

Not that I care, I already have a (soon to be called) "beast" ps3, and I love it. I would accept a bit of downtime for some new PSN content of some sort. Otherwise, what's the point? Maintenance perhaps?

Why would Sony:
1. Start forcing everyone to pay 50 dollars a year
2. Then take away the lagfree dedicated servers for PS3 games and replace it crappy old Xbox style laggy P2P networking for games
3. Then gimp all the major PS3 online games down to Xbox levels like 8 for Gears of War and 16 for Halo 3
4. Then replace the 8+ million userbase Home online world that is wildly successful and massively supported by all the major publisher cranking out exclusive content for it with some stupid little 2D Nintendo Mii ripoffs
If people want a crappy pay for online service they can just buy a 360.

you can tell when someone is reaching when they have to list titles that still are not out yet. Throw in GT5 and you might as well throw in Duke Nukem Forever as a reason to buy a 360.
If you want to stack games against each other then do it for properties that are due soon. Otherwise you should start counting all the unreleased 360 exclusives too and the list will still be longer and include more anticipated titles. So while I'm playing Uncharted 2 which is the only major Sony name out this year, the 360 crowd will be playing Halo:ODST.
When I've finished with Uncharted 2 I'll be moving on to the 360 to play Dragon Age and Forza and my PS3 exclusive roster is empty for the year.

No wonder the RRoDbox's Top Ten Games for 2009 and 2010 have to be filled out with DLC and crossplatform and PC games.
Honestly, if crappy graphics, unreliable hardware, horrible online service, lack of exclusives outside of downgraded PC ports is what you want in a console, knock yourself out with the RRoDbox.

I do believe Forza 3 won't be able to touch GT 5, and I also believe that 2010 will be the best year for Playstation 3, largely due to the games you mentioned above.
I really hope Sony can make second place behind Wii, they have an amazing piece of hardware on their hands, and an even more amazing 2010 software catalog. And with the rumored $300 price tag coming soon, it will be untouchable by the 360!

Anyone choosing to believe the PS3 has no decent exclusives is being ignorant. Plain and simple. If you couldn't find the charm in many of the PS3's amazing games, then I believe I speak as a community when I say this, but please don't find a reason, we don't want or need your negativity :P
I'm going to go against the grain for PS3 fans here, and NOT provide you with some monstrous list of games, because to any person clearly not under the influence of another console (I.E. Biased as all hell), the list "should" be painfully obvious. But ignorance is bliss! Cheers :)

Wow, I have and love my PS3, but there is some serious fanboyism raging on in this thread. The 360 and PS3 are practically the same, with a relatively equal amount of exclusives and they counterbalance well. The real difference between the two so far has been Blu-Ray (which I ADORE). Take this from someone who had a 360 from summer 06 to summer 08, and then traded it in for a PS3 (MGS4 called me too much). For every Halo and Gears, there's a Killzone and Resistance, and the difference between them really aren't that big. If Christmas is looking light for PS3 exclusives, that's because a majority of them came out in spring and summer.
Oh, and my PS3's name after the Slim's announcement (because Duke is taken) will be...the BARON.
