Medion's 24-inch X9613 multitouch all-in-one PC actually looks pretty hot
Medion has never really been our go-to manufacturer for new hotness, but we're really digging this new X9613 all-in-one model it's showing off. Even better than the sexy, the computer is fronting a 24-inch multitouch display, a miniature SideShow screen, a gloriously large physical volume knob, and a bunch of convenient media controls along the bottom. Internals aren't bad either, with a Core 2 Quad Q9000 processor and GeForce GT240M graphics. The price range, unfortunately, is rather steep at 1,499 to 1,900 Euro (about $2,142 to $2,714 US). Lucky for us, US prices are usually quite a bit lower than straight-up conversion, though there's no promised roll-out just yet to bank on. Video hands-on is after the break.

Is anyone else kinda turned off by that smudge?
Yea, probably wasn't the best design choice. Still for the price it looks like a very solid all-in-one.
I was, but like Temp said it still looks hot, but price needs to be lower for my pockets.
Oh be quit!

It's got the touch?!?!
Gee fake dave, that's a rather drastic comment. On other fronts, that "smudge" is a graphic.
Feel free to ignore my superfluous comment which also happened to be inserted on the wrong thread. I'm trying to figure out what else I could have screwed up on my post.
try cleaning your screen once in a while..... you will find it does wonders!?
oh a multitouch display.
i have always wanted to have smudgy fingerprints all over my PC's screen, what a great idea.
computer mice ftw
Just looked at your past 100 posts.... have you ever had one single positive thing to say? Jesus... take about your negative person. I guess it is better you coming on here and taking it out on every article, rather than you beating your wife, kids, and dog.
Just feeling like my screen is gonna get all messed up with scratches and smudges in 3~6 months because of the touch system is a complete turn off no matter what kind of device it is.
Hmm, i looked at them too now and i must agree they aren't very optimistic.
But everybody needs a bit of constructive criticism now and then :P
of course i could say that this PC is really awesome and that i'd like to have it, but that is obvious to everybody so i don't know why i should mention it
Both engadget and gizmodo have been lacking in inteligent comments for quite some time now. I wonder what demographic is served now and since I visit this site everyday, I worry that these comments are rubbing off on my personality. I don't want to be smug, sarcastic, destructive, and most of all immature. Can anyone recommend a tech site where comments are moderated?
Being "smug, sarcastic, destructive, and most of all immature" takes plenty of intelligence.
This whole "I don't want smudges" issue is really just garbage. We heard the same thing with the intro of touchscreen phones, yet there's not been any massive wave of people wanting to go back to non-touch screens.
Touchscreen displays have been commonplace for years, nearly a decade, in the dirtiest possible places you can imagine: bars and restaurants. Granted, they're not trying to watch HD video or anything, but it's not that difficult to keep a display screen clean.
/sheesh
Well no, I can't and yes, trying to survive the comment stream on here and not turn into a rabid dog is challenging.
I suspect that is part of why they aren't moderated, it boosts attendance, even more so than the inciderary headlines used.
@ MissionSparta
Well he is allowed to be negative/cynical or what have you. There is no crime in him being such. He's spotted a potential problem and as such has a (potentially) valid point. And you're the one looking up his last 100 posts, what does that make you. Also, you're the one insulting him and making things personal. People like you are hypocrites. Quick to deride others on the basis of your over inflated value of self worth. You're the shit on my heel.
Looks good
that is a really nice looking pc.
Medion always offer very cool designs and unbeatable prices /specs rapport , even when they just rebrand MSI netbooks they manage to make them somehow cooler and sell them at 20% less than MSI.
Very reliable too I still use a nearly 4 y.o (slightly pimped up) MD 8800 as a music server and it never had any issue of any kind in all this time.
It's really nice looking, but who is the dummy who keeps making touch screens that are glossy? Those should be matte only.
This is just a pathetic attempt to copy the ipod touch.
Really pathetic, there is NO WAY that I am going to fit that thing in my pants pocket! What do I need a quad core cpu and geforce 240M for? It's like they think I'm going to be encoding countless hours of HD video! Absolutely unbelieveable.
Hey why the downrank? That was actually quite funny.
Pathetic attempt to try to say something clever? Or is this a clever way to hide your comment?
It would be cooler if the bar thing on the bottom was removable and could be used as a remote control. They it might be a decent choice for something that was doing double duty as a PC and a HT in a small apt or dorm room.
Very nice idea. That'd be a 2 foot long remote though.
Or cut into a table and mount it directly around it. Hook up a second monitor... that could be awesome.
You mean like this?

I am guessing this beat's the iMac's specs at its highest?
I would love to see some charts that compare performance on the 3 Ghz dual core used in the imac and the 2.1 Ghz Quad-Core used in this AIO.
I was thinking mac for my next computer but windows 7 and hardware like this could change my mind in a hurry. That computer looks sweet...
Now at an Aldi near you?
Cool. Kinda like a hybrid between a computer and a flat screen TV. Hope to see more computer makers doing hybrids.
How does this compare with the HP TouchSmart models?
To me the HP seems to be the better choice.
This beats the top speccd HD hands down in every sense, price included.
I mean HP not HD
I'm curious to see what the stand will look like, and hoping that bottom control area is hinged so it can be folded up at a 90 degree angle. I have to admit i'm easily attracted to the design of a machine w/a massive screen. I currently have the Dell XPS M2010 "laptop".
Surely they'd coat the screen w/some new magic to reduce wear and tear.
I want it now. (though i'm already ridiculed for the size of my current machine)
Funny, you get ridiculed and told "it's too big"
Many of your fellow readers wish they had that problem :)
I've got the touch!
I've got the power!
Very nice.
Glossy surfaces are the only problem for me.
Touch screen comps actually look really inconvenient...the thought of having to be within a foot of the comp to be able to touch it and then having to go back to the keyboard seems a little exhausting. Touch screens are only convenient when they are small and within easy reach of your fingers.
I agree. I would never want to work on a touch screen that I have to hold my hands outstretched forward to use. Besides nothing beats the per pixel movements than a mouse or tablet for design work. These seem strictly novelty to me.
Kitchens
I have to agree with this.. touch screens tend to be only usable for smaller form factor electronics.. maybe 20-21 inch max.. but for a wall mounted 24 inch beast.. i don't think you'll be using your fingers to navigate. The most use out of it that I can think is for quick annotations or revisions (Engg/Arch/Creative prof).
Am I the only person who thinks all-in-ones are stupid? When you buy a monitor, it should last through at least 4 generations of PCs but when you permanently tie them to a mediocre computer you are doomed to have to throw them both away in 2 years when the computer is so slow it pisses you off. It's a bad economic choice, a bad environmental choice and if you want multitouch, it's your only choice.
I guess I won't have multitouch any time soon, 'cause I'm not going to but a disposable computer to get it.
You are partly true. All in ones biggest problem is that they use laptop graphics cards that are hard to upgrade. The hard drive and RAM, not a big deal.
Case in point, I am using a Sony VGC-V620G all in one, purchased in 2005.
Check out the specs:
3.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor
20-inch LCD,
250 GB hard drive,
1 GB RAM
dual-layer DVD+/-RW burner
Built-in 10/100 Ethernet; 56K (V.90) modem, 54-Mbps wireless LAN (802.11b/g)
Since then I have upgraded to a 500Gb drive, but thats it. I wish I could upgrade the Nvidia GeForce FX Go5700 video card, but it is an AGP port and it is impossible to get a substantially faster card for that port.
The modern all in ones only better that spec with the usual processor and RAM, and a 24 inch screen.
If you get an all in one, make sure it has the best specs that you can get if you want it to last 5+ years.
even the macbook has better multitouch
why the hell use one finger for right button when you can use 2?
and the whole windows thing wasnt built for multitouch anyway
looks like a waste of money
I had never heard of Medion until I went into Aldi the other day and got a frikkin amazing Medion graphics tablet (A4 size) for $60AU so impressed with them so far!
Throw in a tuner or two and it's a very decent TV/Tivo/Blu-ray replacement.
