Dell Mini 3i breaks cover for most complete photo shoot to date
It may have been briefly, sort of official before Dell decided to do some backtracking earlier this month, but it looks like the company's China-bound Mini 3i smartphone has now made yet another public appearance, and Sina has thankfully delivered what looks to be the most thorough hands-on with the phone to date. That, as you can see above, also includes a peek at the phone's Android-based and China-centric OPhone operating system, which ditches the familiar Android Clock in favor of new, different clocks -- and a slew of other interface changes. Hit up the link below to get started.

It looks like a Pre.
EVERY TIME a new smartphone is released, the FIRST evaluation is a comparison with other popular smartphones.
IT LOOKS LIKE A DELL.
put android on it and I'm game.
> It looks like a Pre.
Well of COURSE it does!
Haven't you heard!? Dell's supposed to be buying Palm!
Come to think of it, Nokia's supposed to be buying them, too!
Er...so is Motorola!
Uh...
Granted i haven't heard any thing about Dell buying palm but why would they make a phone that looks like the company they are about to buy out?
Some one please explain this to me :o
The handy smartphone guide clearly still applies: If it's got round corners, it's an iphone clone. Curved sides, Pre clone. Chin, G1 clone.
@David: It is Android-powered.
I love how on nearly every iPhone picture I see there is always like 50+ unread emails.. Can someone say IMAP? Best mobile email protocol ever.
It looks like a fugly cross between a Nokia 5800 & a Palm Pre.
Why would anyone want to buy a Dell phone? Is there such a thing as a Dell fanboy? Buy a Pre and get the real thing.
...and I want my scalps!
I don't think phones should do comparison shots with the iPhone unless it actually looks better; aka not this.
Crapgadget
KIRFy.
Nice looking, I like it
I agree. It looks quite thin, from the side shots. Hopefully, mobile operators outside of China will pick it up, I'd like to see & try it.
"new, different clocks" -ooohhhhh....
the iphone's 2d icons are certainly a quicker read. Less negative space.
Looks pretty good, actually
I'd give it a try...
Looks like another Dull product to me.
IT REALLY LOOKS LIKE THE PALM PRE!
my eyes!!! it burns!! it burns!!!......
There's a hate it or love it annotation with this.... I'm stuck in the middle =/
what the hell is up with the part you talk into not being with the design of the phone. By which i mean it doesn't flow well at all IMO
What are you talking about? Do you mean the round thing at below the phone? That's not part of the phone, if you look at the rest of the pictures in the "Read" link you can see that it's a stand or something.
Strange... very strange... I thought leaked photos are suppose to be blurry, out of focus and pixelated.
Not really impressed with what I'm seeing here.
Looks like every other Dell product...that is to say: crap.
Wouldn't get it... even if I could.
FAIL!!
its HUGE.. im sure its thicker than the iPhone
If that is mini ..i hate to see the "regular" 3i
its basically a cross between a PRE (style)and a phone(looks)(switch it around take you pick whatever) with an android O.S
and really dell 3i
It's not saying that this is a mini version of the 3i. It's saying that this product line is called the Dell Mini: i.e. smaller than their line of computers.
it looks like a Chinese knock off of an iPhone that had a child with a Palm Pre

Yes, because everyone knows Apple was the mother of the GUI interface:

and Palm was the first to use to use sleek curved cases:

You morrons disgust me.
look at the pics, the scree on this phone really sucks. can't see anything with the light reflecting
I like the stock Android way better. The handset looks kinda OK but the OS... It's for me not about the Chinese signs but those icons OMG...
From what I'm hearing about the Chinese, the only thing they're concerned with is whether the smartphone is cheap enough. Apparently, they're not concerned with quality or KIRFY-ness. The typical Chinese cellphone users are seem to be like Windows-type users. As long as the initial cost is low and the device works half-way, that will be good enough. So maybe users won't care if it does look like crap. Look for the Dellphone to sell very well on the China Mobile carrier network. It's been said that China Mobile is loaded with subscribers that buy the cheapest stuff they can get their hands on and Dell will suit them perfectly. Dell's only problem is whether they can make any money selling their cellphones in China.
I don't know how good any information is that comes out of China and it's darn hard to come by if you can't read Chinese. Although China the country is supposedly wealthy, somehow the individual isn't. Many have an interest in internet usage but I'm not exactly sure how many citizens own computers. It would be better to just wait for sales to begin rather than jumping at any conclusions for now. Potential sales figures are all over the place, so even the supposedly informed analysts don't know shit about cellphone sales in China.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Typical Dell, derivative, fugly, and made for the lowest common denominator. It will appeal to the unwashed masses and sell like hotcakes (pot sticker?).
I wonder if it has a multi-tasking OS like the Blackberry but not like the iPhone.
I don't know how I feel about Dell as a whole, but honestly... this will have to be cheap to sell.
not elegant
I logged in to say it looked like my pre, but it seems we've already covered that... Rendering this post completely useless. Yet here it is anyway.
Dude your getting a DELL!
I've always liked Dell products that I've purchased over the past couple of years. While I probably won't get something like a Dell phone I certainly think that it would be a pretty good product.
I don't know why everyone likes to bash on Dell. :/
i concur.
Any company that rations toilet paper and soap (like Dell does to try and make its quarterly numbers) can't be all bad. Mikey Dell deserves all the good stuff coming his way.
Screen looks more crisp compared to iPhone.
