Mission One electric motorcycle surpasses 150 MPH, heading to Snake River Canyon
It was no idle boast when Mission Motors claimed that its Mission One all-electric motorcycle could reach 150 MPH speeds. In fact, the company's showing in the 2009 BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah has proved all this and more, with the bike hitting single pass speeds as high as 161 MPH, and a two-pass average of 150.059 MPH, setting the Land Speed Record for Electric Motorcycles in the process. And this isn't a vehicle that taunts you, forever unavailable, like Evel Knievel's rocket-powered cycle. No, this is a production prototype featuring the same powertrain that customers can look forward to shelling out close to $70,000 for when it becomes available sometime next year. But don't take our word for it, peep the video for yourself after the break.

Give me at least 70 mile range, a short charge cycle, and lower it to under $20,000 and I would buy it. $70,000 is ridiculous.
Give me wireless charging on motorways/highways and some cake.
Give me some cake and 20000$
Only the first 20 Special Edition models will have a $68,995 price tag. The price on a "normal" Mission One hasn't been released yet.
Give me all of the above... and I might just be content.
70K. LOL. For a bike that cant even go 200 mph, barely sustainable 150 mph. Reminds me of the little 50cc scooters they have overseas, that look* like street bikes.
Almost as fast as an Indian.
@Agent
Umm...electric motor's acceleration rates are through the roof.
I'll stick with my polluting $1500 moto.
If I had $70k to blow on a moto I'd just step up and buy a Tesla instead for a few bucks (okay, a lot of bucks) more.
The cake is a lie!
@ wolfticket: couple the wireless charging with a solar road and you've got a deal. Cake for everyone!
at least he didn't end up like this guy.

(fast foward to 3:23 for the wreck)
Actually funny and relevant, up rank.
That terrible! The poor minivan. :(
$70,000 ROFL.
$70,000 to save the Earth? No thanks bring on global warming.
$70,000 for the ugliest piece of machinery ever invented. It even beats out Probo in my book.
I would have to agree with you. At first glance, the photo at the top looked actually cool and I wasn't sure what you were getting at, but after watching that video and seeing it without a rider at 0:03. Pass....
You have to admit it is cool.
No, I don't have to admit that.
$70K???? C'mon guys you can buy a Telsa car for that (or two Prius).....and BTW gas powered motorcycles are already extremely fuel efficient even with today's non-optimized power plants so what exactly are you trying to solve here? Hopefully this is not our tax money at work!
Gas powered bikes efficient? I assume you mean petrol and lol no they aren't :D
(I am a biker btw)
Ummm...yes, they are pretty efficient. My gsxr gets 50+ mpg. I'm willing to bet that I get better mpg than a prius. Granted, a bike takes 2 riders max, but still...in absolute numbers, bikes are pretty damn efficient. The engines in motorcycles aren't inherently more efficient (it's still a combustion engine after all), but a motorcycle engine has to carry around very little weight, compared to cars that have tons of glass, metal frames, speaker systems, electronics, etc. etc.
Motorcycles at 50+ mpg is not indicative of being efficient. You are correct, they are much lighter. For that reason alone they should be way more efficient. Motorcycle mpg ratings for most big bikes ranges from low 30s to the 60s. Many of the Harley's that you hear are at the lower end. All that noise takes energy to make. Any engineer will tell you that noise is a great indication of energy being wasted. With their much lighter weights, to be truely efficient they should be approching 100 mpg. All the motor revving that you typically hear is also not efficient and with todays better engines not usually required to keep the motor running like back in the old days. That is if the engine is adjusted correctly. If folks stopped doing that, they would likely gain 5 mpg by that alone.
jeffro, he stipulated all the stuff you bring up.
Getting from A to B at 50 mpg is efficient in strict numbers, regardless of the fact that most of these bikes are built for speed and could be more efficent. Getting from A to B in a sports vehicle using internal combustion at 50 mpg is not something you can do in many cars.
It's still not a great idea, though. Helmets and leathers are very poor protection.
Wow.
I'd love to see the internals (controller(s) etc)
Killacycle already has the speed record for electric superbikes. It's top speed is close to 180 and has been running drag bike competitions for a while now. What is so special about this one?
I would guess the fact that it can sustain that speed over a long distance.
Two things make this one special: the first is that it's as ugly as the devil's face, the second is that this one is driven by someone who can stay on it without wrecking the bike and a van in one go. See the above linked video.
Try again when it can be made for $7k and gets 120+ miles per charge on a sub 2 hour charge then it might be tempting till then I will stick to my 08 Ninja 650R.
That's almost twice as fast as a human powered bike will go!

Got to agree with most of the guys here...it's too pricey at 70,000 USD
Looks good, can't see many takers at that price though...
when are the new cheap twice-as-good-as lithium ion batteries coming out?
that will change our planet - make electric vehicles practical.
it's not that hard to design a competitive powerful and fast electric vehicle, the problem is getting it to go any distance on batteries!
I don't quite agree with it's claims as the world's fastest electric motorcycle. As far i know another all-electric bike called the KillaCycle clocked in at 174mph. No idea about the price though.
Yea, but was it official? And did it recreate the same speeds again within a close time proximity? That's what makes this "official".
Oh nice !!
But i think this would be the best for u

I don't care how fast it is as long as it's _quiet_.
$70,000 = "forever unavailable"
I just paid $250 to replace O-rings in 3 of my carbs, $90 is labor costs. I'd like an electric sportbike so I can fix and upgrade my own damn bike like I do PC's. I wouldn't mind paying 13K = 2009 CBR600RR ABS. Other than that, electric is gay for now! costwise =(. Since it's for work, I don't mind a 80mph limit for now, as long as it handles well in the twisties....

Sry double post....
KillaCycle has the world speed record for electric motorbike with 174 mph:

A speed trial and a drag race are two different things.
