"Other touch-screen Zune players" referenced in Zune HD manuals
So were poring through the Zune HD's various manuals and documentation, like you do, and we noticed this little line in the A/V dock's quick start guide: An HDMI cable (included) and a high-definition TV are required for high-definition viewing. Zune HD and other touch-screen Zune players also work with the composite A/V cable (included). Now, that's pretty interesting, since, you know, there aren't any other touchscreen Zunes out there. We'd say that's either solid evidence the boys in Redmond are planning to give the Zune HD the family it's always wanted -- or it's just a huge mistake. Only your doctor knows for sure.

Interesting..
i'm pissed. i went to bestbuy and they were sold out of the zune hd.
Sold out?
Not at the Best Buy I was at today. Not really surprising. I don't think anyone expected people to line up like they do for iPods and iPhones.
That a first Zune Sold out, 1 year ago no one thought those would be in the same sentence.
Anywho do what i did man, order one from microsoft
https://zunestore.net/us/catalog/index.aspx
just ordered mine this afternoon a 32GB Zune HD, with a nice sharp green colour that goes well with the black
which have better sound quality Sony X series walkman or Zune HD?
I own ipod touch and want to upgrade to something with better audio quality.
@Dr
I haven't tried the walkman but all Zunes have superior sound quality.
@MaX PL: Ya, 2 of the best buys I tried were sold out. The third one had them though and I got me a 32GB :D
I learned my lesson and I'm never pre-ordering (or possibly shopping) at Best Buy again. When I got there to redeem my pre-order, they said they'd "got 8 pre-orders but only had 4 devices". F*** you Best Buy, why do you think I BOTHERED to pre-order? YOU SEEM TO HAVE MISSED THE POINT THAT I EXPECTED A DEVICE. So I got my order refunded and spent 3 hours driving between Wal Marts in the area. All the Wal Marts only had 16s. So now I've gone 1-day on Amazon and I'll get it tomorrow. Today was supposed to rock, and instead it was one of the worst days of my life (in memory). I'd never been so angry.
Lesson learned, though. From now on, I'm going to buy things mainly online.
@DeoWulf,
Not to diminish your experience, but if getting shafted on a pre-order qualifies as one of the worst days of your life, you've had a pretty good life so far.
I do agree that Best Buy crapped on you pretty good.
@DeoWulf
Seriously?!?! Worst day of your life? Wow. I hope you are just barely old enough to drive. You realize how trivial it is that you did not get your LUXURY good the first day it was available compared to any number of people in your town, let alone world, that are suffering without ESSENTIAL goods?
Woooooaaaah! :D
Maybe the other touch-screen Zune is a European one....
...BRING THE FREAKIN' THING TO EUROPE!
Do what us Americans have to do also, import
yeah there are USA only features about the HD though. Im sure canada and europe will get something. that would line up with some of those cryptic statements they made about france.
Europe? Canada first, since we're next door than we'll send it over.
There's also this teeny island called Australia that could do with some Zune love.
We wiseass europeans do not need zunes or iPods.
My HTC TouchHD and HTC Hero, once you have installed the appropriate apps are both better media players than all than MS and Apple gadgets.
My third cell phone , The Nokia N97, is not yet as good as a music player but after the october firmware it's going to be too.
The only dedicated media player I am routinely tempted to buy is the latest ultraslick Cowon but I know that I would never carry 2 different gadgets when one is just as good and have decided instead to splurge on the new Nokia BH 905 BT headphones with active noise cancellation, once they will be paired with my Hero on which I have installed a few of Android's masterly music playing apps, I'm sure I will not regret that the zune is not imported in Europe , as for the iPod I dont even feel like taking about it: suffice to say that about 2 months ago I bought an iPhone 3GS , and less than a week later I brought it back to the store and I had it exchanged with my fab HTC Hero.
It has proved to be the best decision I took this year.
We europeans are far too cool, too smart and to wiseassed to buy Zunes, and MS knows that.
@Cy Amen to that.
to those saying import, the zune software does not play nice, we cannot log-on or anything so are stuck with offline usage as well as warranty is a down-right bummer.
I agree. They should release the Zune HD in Europe.
I think they are trying to get DAB Support, which would be awesome and could be the reason that they don't plan to release it in France.
Regards, Matt
It's funny, but I don't consider you to be able to speak in behalf of every European.
On your remarks over being too smart and too cool to buy a Zune, I'm guessing that the question "What's your preferred PMP?" don't actually appear on your standard IQ test.
And with all the shit you just puked out, you actually managed to sound like an everyday American.
If they do indeed come out with other touch-screen Zune players, then other OLED players are welcome too. :)
Touchscreen Zune micro!
:D
Zune HD Mini just in time for Christmas.
Just my guess.
i'd honestly prefer a Zune HD +. when i played with it today i was kinda disappointed because its so small.
"when i played with it today i was kinda disappointed because its so small."
(trying so hard not to make 'that's what she said' joke)
That's what she said.
Let me help you:
That's what she said.
sons i am disappoint
no, my doctor definitely didn't know what the frack a Zune was... Stoopid Doctor!
I asked my doctor... he is not sure.
My dumb doctor uses an iphone and swears it can't catch a zune!?!
My guess is, they are talking about different sizes 16GB/32GB. OR it could be the elusive Zune phone.
Ahh, who cares....
I'm inclined to agree with your inclination. There are technically two touch-screen Zune players, the 16GB Black and the 32GB Platinum. Knowing Microsoft they are differentiating the two as separate.
I disagree, as the manual says "Zune HD and other touch-screen Zune players..." Both the 16GB and 32GB are "Zune HD" so this has to be something else.
or they forgot to proof read and missed non (non touchscreen?)
@rakesh,
Now that, indeed, makes more sense.
likely the software / service implementation on windows phones.
I think jrb has hit it on the head
man nothing gets based engadget
i believe the term would be "past"
wow i'm obviously drunk. thank you
You would be surprised what people do when there drunk, apparently for you its spell things wrong on engadget.
i believe the term would be "they're"
Yo, Nelagster, I know you're dranking and I'mma let you finish, but Kanya West had a better drunken outburst of stupidity.
Yo, Hey, I know you're correcting people and I'mma let you finish, but Nickoladze is a better grammar Nazi.
Yo, Engadget, where's the cake?
Have they released that buggy firmware yet?
I am inclined to laugh, not at that content of comment but at the preposterous nature of it.
Hes an apple fan boy. If you want buggy firmware try apple. Itunes is a mess.
I love how when I read your comment, immediately to the right of it was a link to the TUAW story: iPhone 3.1 problems flood our tip box
It is quite preposterous that the software wasn't ready in time when the hardware shipped. It's going to be a wacky day when people finally get their hands on whatever unfinished mess Microsoft does finally release. I will have the popcorn ready.
The software has been out for hours you dumbass.
