Atomic Zune HD explodes all over Ebay
Hey, remember that totally wild, awesome looking "Atomic" Zune HD we spied evidence of in the source files a week or so ago? Well, we later saw an image or two of it, but now one's shown up in the flesh on ebay -- and for a starting bid of a mere 265 bones you might be able to snag it! This one's a 32GB model, and while we still don't know if it's going to be officially released or not, we get the feeling that it probably will. Regardless, we'd advise starting a bidding war anyway. Oh, and we're totally winning this one so hands off.

how did they get this?!?!
According to the eBay page:
"i don't know because it just a gift from my friend."
The kind of answer that truly inspires confidence in an item.
You see those 3 screws. Unscrew them. Paint the cover and screw back in.
Zune HD has patterned the screws. You can bet no one will be able copy them.
They had em on sale to zuneoriginals.net. I was gonna get a custom zune but all the patterns n colors looked awful so I just went to best buy and picked one up as well as the A/V Dock kit.
Don't you love it when an Apple fanboy tries to make fun of MS and messes it up, just like Pizzahut, a.k.a. Three screws, a.k.a. Cy Young, a.k.a. Milan, a.k.a. John, a.k.a. Blooper, a.k.a. Poker, a.k.a. TopGun, a.k.a. Thomas R, a.k.a. Paradox, a.k.a. Taurus, a.k.a. Chris, a.k.a. GreenVillage (along with many, many more aliases) did?
He tried to make fun of it (and really, "patterned"?), but yet, others have used this type of screw before. From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tri-Wing):
Kyocera uses Tri-Wing screws on their phones.
Nintendo uses Tri-Wing screws in its Game Boy, DS, DS Lite, GameCube, and Wii products.
Sanyo uses them in its cell phones.
Nokia formerly used them in some older phones and chargers.
Fujifilm used them in some of their digital cameras.
Sony uses them in one of the panels on the bottom of the laptop model VGNS380P and in some of their PDAs.
Telecom New Zealand uses them on household external junction boxes.
Microdrives (Type II CompactFlash Cards) often use them.
Panasonic uses them in some of its cell phones.
Microsoft uses them on the backside of the Zune HD.
And my favorite:
Apple Inc. uses them on their older wireless keyboards and for securing the battery to the case in their entire MacBook Pro line of laptops, beginning June 2009.
When he believed that MS was inventing a new screw type, it is grounds to mock them. But now he will say MS is copying, correct?
@NohOne
Haha I've never heard anyone say that before. I just call em the Nintendo screws if anything because I've had a Nintendo handheld in my pocket since I could walk.
NohOne,
what are you talking about? i'm confus
Hello confus
Oh and I forgot to mention, Confus. Go and find Ed, he will complete you!
@ NohOne
Before acting like a troll, did you consider that perhaps he was talking about the fact the screws were also painted with the design? The ones in the picture aren't. I don't know what the Atomic Zune acutally looks like, but it sure sounded like that is what he was talking about.
Yeah, he was actually talking about the industrial design of the device, and how the screws add to the look. He wasn't bashing it, or saying it's stupid.
I don't think Noh0ne's being a troll, but with the recent Microsoft articles continuing to be shat upon by Apple fanboys (and vice-versa if that comment offends you), it's really hard to see who's being specific in their comments.
Just a misunderstanding, not trolling.
If you folks haven't noticed, several 0-feedback shill bids have been put in place raising the price to over five thousand dollars.
Want the shill bids to stop? Report the auction to eBay.
"Three screws" uses a different alias for every post he makes, that way, unless you click on his name and see the name he registered with (pizzahut), you would not label him as the Apple fan boy he is. If you have one post from "Three screws", one from "John", etc. you will not notice a pattern, and dismiss the comment as maybe you misread it. An example is a few days ago, when he made a number of posts replying to the same comment using different names, trying to give creedance to his comments.
As for this comment of his, the first line there was nothing wrong with it. The second line, however, shows what he was getting at. I believe he was trying to write patent rather than patterned, which was him taking his usual jab at Microsoft implying that the only innovation is the screws they used to bolt the HD together. I was trying to show that the screws were not some special innovation by MS, but something that other companies have used, including Apple. If his reply was then that MS copied Apple, then I was going to write that others have used the same screws before Apple.
Oh, and kharnellius, I have been called both a MS fanboy troll and an Apple fanboy troll. I am trying to call somebody out for their trolling.
I want an atomic powered Zune!
P.s. I'll get you a Satanic Mechanic!

KABOOOOOM!
Boom, headshot?
Oh yeahhhhhhhh, I love it when my Zune explodes all over.
32GB version owned
Explodes it creamy goodness in your mouth?
Cool. If I wasn't getting a blue Zune HD, I'd consider it. On a completely unrelated note, where's this week's podcast? Did AOL's computers destroy it again?
zune hd is cool
It's cool and it's
US $2,025.00
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF?
Those three screws in the back look even cooler. Wouldn't you agree?
Holy sh!t..is at $10,000......0_0!
...and 2 months in we might find a whole line of "Artwork Zune HDs" for $20 extra. Well, getting the one that was listed on Engadget that one time might count for something. :P
anyone else get the impression that maybe that ebay post is by an engadget staffer. hmmmm
Look at the source link...
something is amiss....
His auction has a question
"Q: where did oyu get that design on the zune?
A: i dont know because it just a gift from my friend."
But his feedback is selling nothing but Zunes, new but unboxed.
Buyer Beware.
I do get the same feeling thats its a little odd that hes selling a gift. I would keep a ZuneHD if i was given it as a gift.
Ever thought that maybe he has a friend that works for Microsoft? He lives in WA, and maybe he meant "hook-up" instead of "gift."
It also says "No Returns Accepted" that right there is a deal breaker for anything on eBay.
I saw a Zune HD at Best Buy yesterday. Totally unimpressed. Minimal features, poor UI, slow and laggy.
Wait, what? The UI on mine is flawlessly speedy.
That was an ipod touch you were looking at....
That will be a double downrank with transparency to go, anything else?
Um... what? That is the exact opposite of what the Zune HD is...
If you're going to hate on the Zune HD, at least don't make things up.
You were unimpressed because you failed to recognize the best part of the zune hd.
You have to turn over and look at the back. Voila! There the shinny screws.
You see zune hd has patterned their screws so you will never ever going to see
them on iPod. Ever!
Yeah, so at least when the battery gets fucked up I can easily replace it. See, mankind invented this useful thing called a screw driver, that allows you to unscrew screws (OMG RIGHT?); this makes things easy. Where as Apple says "Fuck it" and hands you a crowbar.
DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Looks snazzy.
I want this like Kanye wants to make an ass out of himself.
Who's kayne?
Denrocks, I'm REALLY happy for you, and I'ma let you finish...but three screws had one of the greatest low-ranks of the WHOLE THREAD. THE WHOLE THREAD!!!
I think it's hideous.
L !
Isn't that just a Zune original?
You can't get that color or that design in a zune original yet.
You're right about the pattern, but that color is just the normal red with a bad camera, I'm fairly certain.
Actually, the normal red is more maroon in tint. Official icon shows the Atomic to be a more true primary red. The pictures confirm it.
Why would you announce it if you don't want anyone else to snag it?... It's already over $350.
