Palm Pixi stares GSM in the face, lives to brag about it (update: video!)
Though nothing's been announced, betting against a GSM version of the Palm Pixi would be a foolish move. There's certainly no mistaking that "E" for Edge logo and SIM slot beneath the battery in these leaked images from Vietnam (yes, again). Oddly, this particular GSM variant pictured only contains 4GB of internal storage vs. the 8GB model announced for Sprint. Perhaps a prototype limitation only? Let's hope.

what the pho!?
I get it!
I don't get it. What's there to brag? The plastic keys or the stolen USB vendor ID?
I do love me some Pho
In case your too lazy to google, Pho (pronounced Fuh) is a Vietnamese Soup dish with noodles and is typically served with beef stock and stuff like Tripe, Meatballs, and all kinds of shit.
Damn it... Please come to Verizon. I beg of you, Palm.
No kidding why do all of the good phones come to AT&T. I had verizon for years because the coverage is so much better but I couldn't stand their crap phones anyomore. Tried the Storm which is crap. My old Treo was even worse. Then moved on to the iphone and I must say it beats anything palm will ever do. Luckily, AT&T has pretty good coverage in my area. I'm sorry for the losers at Spint that have to settle for this little POS though...

@macjonny
ya dude, youre totally not a huge apple fanboy or anything.
yo can this macjohnny fanboy get banned from commenting or what. At&t doesn't have shit besides the iphone, verizon has nothing besides the touchscreen bb, tmobile and sprint have a wider variety of smartphones and sprint comes out on top. Htc hero, htc touch pro 2, whatever the newest bb is, palm pre, palm pixi. Don't be upset because you pay out of the ass for your shitty plan/coverage.
Its the next incarnation of the iphone killer! Honestly tho, the Pixi would be good if it wasn't named the Pixi. I've seriously considered getting one when it comes out and not using my 2yr upgrade on a IHD, TP2 or Hero. But the name keeps getting in my way. They shoulda just named it the Centro2. I'd have traded in my current Centro for a new one. 2.6" screen I could deal with that, no wifi that's fine by me, 8gb that's ok too, itty bitty keyboard? Not as tiny as my current Centros keyboard. Probably woulda got it if it wasn't named Pixi....
And what does the name matter exactly? Call it your He-Man Woman Hater's phone for all we care. If the device itself works for you, I find it hard to believe the name would stop you from getting it, especially when it isn't written anywhere on it.
Whatever. Showing pics won't do crap for Palm until they get up their ass and actually ship their GSM phones worldwide. But no, they rather succumb to Sprint by not even putting wifi on the CDMA pixi. Palm, do you want to show people that you can stick it to the man? Sell your GSM webOS phones in the US unlocked.
Palm had to prove they were worthy with Sprint. Now that webOS has the respect you will see it hit GSM in early 2010. They want their phones on as many carriers as they can get.
me want for tmo.
Me want a gsm webos phone...
Sprint phones dont need Wifi..maybe on other networks...
This phone looks better and better each time i see it but its gonna be hard to get me away from my TP2.
@Miguel: Sure, just keep saying that to yourself while everybody else moves forward.
I think it's more that low-end phones like this is designed to be don't need Wifi.
I made the move from my TP2. Well i got a Pre. But I messed the Palm feel and look.
Do want.
Video is coming soon, could be couple of hours. I am staying with them for preparing the video. Hang on guys ;)
Regards.
There's just something about this phone I love
Why bother covering up serial numbers if you're going to post high-resolution images of the barcodes?
Because a bar code is universal; All of these phones will have the same barcode (as long as they're the same regions, of course)
Whereas each serial number is unique to individual phones.
Sure is a dinky battery, barely larger than the sim card.
1150 mAH, just like the Pre.
hahaha, "dinky".
don't plan on installing more then 12 apps on the thing though with bonehead app limits.
I want this phone. SO. BAD.
Loved my Centro when I had it, and this looks even better than that. Dangit! Sometimes I really hate being on AT&T.
Kom alstublieft naar ons land!
Hab SoSlI' Quch!
There's something not quite right about this picture...
A-ha! Crack pinky!
Palm, Please stop tormenting us here in the GSM part of the world with pretty pictures and videos of the awesomeness which marks the return of your sanity. Just f**king ship GSM Pre(s) and Pixi(es) already. Your potential market share is slowly being eaten away by iphones and android the longer you deny us this earthly pleasure.
Almost done. It's damn nice for female, very nice and very cute. Hope the internet connection is good enough for uploading the video.
Cheers.
Likely its a CDMA/GSM dual tech phone (similar to a few of the Blackberrys on VZW). Notice the "world ready" text in the configuration section. I doubt its strictly GSM or UMTS.
EDGE? Is this a joke? I hope the pics were just taken in an area with poor coverage.
personally, i think the 4gb option is fine for developing markets, it will make it cheaper without contract
not a bad idea if the unlocked phone is going for less than $400
The gestures area lights up different as well. I like the sprint pixi's little square better.
Is that an angle grinder I hear in the background?
why is everyone excited for this? look at how crappy the frame rate is on the scrolling. the dude is touching the screen and you can see its not even as responsive as the first gen iphone from 2007.
apears a WIFI icon in the video!!!
This isn't surprising.Usual configurations are GSM(EDGE) + Wifi versions vs CDMA (3G) version without wifi
That thing is seriously chugging and nothing is even open (see when he swipes away the phone app card)
Pixi is a underpowered disaster, next please.
I love how all Viets have long pinky nails, me included.
Video 'trick' or did it actually take over 2 min to boot?
yes, it took a while to boot...
but then, so does the Pre...
and so does the iPhone...
so does many blackberry devices...
and winmo phones..
seems to happen generally to many smartphones out there..
What's up with the 2 or 3 LED-lit dots on either side of the home "button"? My Pre only has one dot on either side of its physical home button.
so what's the deal with how asian guys grow out one of their fingernails (in the pic showing the sim card slot)? saw it in china a lot. (assuming their asian if this is out of vietnam and assuming its a guy since I've never seen a girl do it)
I want to buy one. who can sale one to me ?
