Dell's $2,000 Adamo XPS launching October 22 with heat-sensing open latch
Dell has been teasing its ultrathin Adamo XPS for weeks now, but all that goofing off will come to a solemn end next Thursday. On the same day that we sit down with Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer (and a little OS by the name of Windows 7 hits store shelves), Dell will also fully reveal the planet's slimmest laptop. The 0.39-inch Adamo XPS will cost $2,000, and while the nitty-gritty details are still under wraps, a new Business Week article notes that it'll boast a "heat-sensing strip on the lip that, when swiped with a finger, glows white and automatically opens the aluminum lid." The glamorous machine is part of a larger effort within the Round Rock powerhouse to revitalize itself and get people talking once again, and while this particular slab will obviously not be a high volume product, it could very well get a few more eyes pointed in its direction. Call us crazy, but we're guessing next week is going to be a wee bit zany.

Incredibly sexy.
It's beautiful, no doubt... But what's... Inside of it?
Magic
Unicorn blood.
I heard it is made completely out of cake..well, that's the word on the street.
No. The cake is a lie.
Nice design, granted, like the XPS M1710 (which I own) a bit gimmicky and not very practical (the lid). However, this one looks much, much better then the gaudy lookin one I've got (apparently Dell's 14 year son designed the case).
That's a misunderstanding. It's not made of cake, but it can CUT cake better than MBA.
i would get it if the price isnt that high, damn im poor
Now if it only had a nipple
giuliop:
It has TWO!
Gogo dual GTX295's! ...Oh wait.
Love how people who used to hate on MBA and call it overpriced and useless, are all of a sudden in love with the Adamo. Doesn't make much sense.
If it can pack anything more powerful than the current Adamo, I'd be floored.
Is it just me or is that way too much to pay for a cake knife?
Cake knife?! This one is designed to slice a tomato in mid-air.
This thing should eat some cake instead of cutting it!
OMG what if it cuts PINEAPPLES MIDAIR!
Actually guys, it's meant to be caught by clenching your "cheeks" whilst doing acrobatic maneuvers.
this is what they call "cutting-edge" \m/
I still want to know what the specs are so I can either properly praise it or trash it.
Just play it safe and trash it. It's more fun that way ;-)
like we're not already expecting Atom, the price obviously reflects the thinness not the power, for better ratios they have the Regular Adamo and the Studio XPSs
Honestly. It's sexy and because of that I want it, but then I realize it's just an oversized, overpriced netbook, and I'm not rich enough to not care. Then again, we don't know the specs, but come on, we all know the relative specs; they ain't gunna be no Alienware rivals.
I'd guess Intel CULV, and not Atom, because putting an Atom in a $2000 machine would be retarded. Obviously this thing isn't going to be playing Crysis, but it should still be more capable than a netbook. If this doesn't have similar/superior specs to the Macbook Air I'd be surprised.
It's got more than one USB port, right? ;)
it is equiped with a 160gb solid state! up to 8gb memory (two slots so u can put in two 4gb ddr450 (world slimest ram) and its processer is also new it 2.5ghz atom
that's one sexy DELL branded thermometer
and it costs
So is it an oral or anal thermometer?
oh you may use it for either one of those and then switch it to the other to make sure
So you're saying the only difference is the taste?
could be lol
a little peanut butter might help
I'd imagine peanut butter would just gum things up going in.
Obviously oral, the only consumers interested in an anal thermometer are the ones who already purchase Apple products.
YOU'RE ALL SICK FUCKS.
i saw the picture and "opener" and instinctively thought "wtf is engadget doing writing about a letter opener?"
Puhleeeassee don't disappoint us Dell!
Do the inside right by the outside!
Lol. Where are the mac fanboy calling this ugly because it has vents?
thats probably a speaker...
Dell really are stepping up their game. They arent just a beige box builder anymore. They build some excellent stuff. I think Acer has taken the crown for most disinteresting beige boxes.
However i think Dell has pulled a RAZR with these laptops. They might be thin but they are wider and deeper. Nobody wants a bulge out the back....
I feel if had this in my backpack the lcd screen would crack into pieces. This thing is incredible thin. Just cant see this product being very durable. If i get this i want to really show this off, haha. Sipping on some frappuccino at a local Starbucks, checking out people noticing my laptop. hot chicks coming up asking me about it, haha. Sweet talk them into giving their number. Ohh the geek life. BTW totally being facetious here.
And the drinks are on moi.
+1 for using "facetious" on the internet.
C'mon, the people who buy this won't be putting it in a backpack. They'll be hiring someone to carry it around and type for them. Buy a Dell, create a job....
Wow, i am excited, can't wait for something new, Finger's crossed!
Sick!
This Windows7 launch is going to be huge. I think Microsoft got it right this time for sure. Not just the OS functionality, but also the advertising and word of moth part. The Party idea was not done well but heh, you cant get them all.
The party, while no one had it, was a huge success. People that I know that are completely computer illiterate wanted to show me those starting a party videos since they were so funny. As a direct success no, but again word of mouth from it exceeded the small scope of the actual idea of little parties.
actually the party thing's got a lot more buzz here where i live than anything else. there's three parties within my high school itself, and anybody who didnt know about windows 7 now feels "old school" when they see the party hosts with windows 7 on their computers, and the tote bags totally get everyone on board.
Only a few people actually having the party. Most people signed up to profit from selling all the freebies (especially the signed Win 7 ultimate) on ebay.
