LG's XG1 Chic external hard drive looks just dainty
It's true: there's nothing particularly extraordinary about LG's newest external hard drive, but it's the design here that has managed to catch our eyes. Available in black or white and with 1TB, 1.5TB or 2TB of storage within, these stylish 3.5-inch USB drives are slated to ship next month in South Korea. There's nary a mention of a stateside release nor of any USB 3.0 editions, but we're sure that'll come in due time. Patience leads to great things, or so we hear.

Some shots are out of focus...
@SNP Or are they..?
@SNP +1; LG's Chic can handle my hard drive anytime.
@SNP
Yes, the incompetent photographer forgot to remove some objects in the foreground and the camera auto-focused on them...
What is this "patience" you speak of?
Q-teeeeeeeeeee, and the HDDs dont look to bad either!
Wait. Chic and chick. I see what you did there...
Just because of her, I'd buy it.
LG has sexy hard drives, but not sexy models. The article last night where the model just about scared me to death, and now this...
Drives are nice... she's a bit plain though... needs some jewelery. Possibly a necklace to break the shot up a bit?
@moggyx
Pearl?
@Glodokboy I was going for a little more contrast... but pearl would compliment both the white drive and her pearly whites
@moggyx its a pretty terrible photoshoot.
Bad lighting
Bad F-Stop
Bad Post Processing
Looks like they were shot in the LG break-room with florescent lights.
I'm all for the "casual" photo experience, but eh...doesn't work for product adverts IMHO
Most of the time, the Show girl always better than the products.
I keep looking for the hard drives in the pictures, but something keeps pulling away my focus.
Do we really need that girl between the drives, she doesn't even know how to get them to work!!! So stop putting asian girls between products!
@DeviantmacG If they do that how will we Americans know what to buy? Don't underestimate Asian product models effect on the economy. GO LG GO!
@DeviantmacG
I definitely know which model I'll buy! :D
@DeviantmacG Damn right! I would rather see some pretty Asian girl model show off some new tech than a 30 something soccer mom model the newest mop with some shitty version of an popular 80's song being butchered in the background.
i'm sure it's not only the design that caught your eyes...
@sheally
Oh good! I was worried that I might need an extra battery with the HD in this article
I am a young, over-educated lonely white boy who numbs the pain by reading Engadget. Oo, look, an Asian woman.
@girllesss
'overeducated'. its all relative.
33333333......000000000000000
Why does LG always use anorexic asian girls in it's promos?
@(Unverified)
it probably appeals to LG's pr staff, but they should really look into hiring models like the camangi unboxer where the background detracts your focus from the product...
WD Passport is where it's at. Small, portable and is powered by a single usb cable. I will never switch back to those huge, clunky, ac adapter required toasters.
@(Unverified) too bad you can't get a terrabtye 2.5'' drive.
@(Unverified) Please stay on topic.
@SirNoDroin I'm sure it wont be long. WD has a 750gb notebook drive that they could use for this purpose also.
@bd How is discussing an external drive in a post about an external drive not on topic? Please enlighten me...
The non-stack-able, easily scratch-able, totally form over function over design is appealing to you?
And you guys call yourselves geeks..
@SirNoDroin
stackability depends on which model you're referring to??? Almost anything is stackable with some duct tape...
LOL @ Darren Murph
"Chic external hard drive looks just dainty"
Remove hard drive from equation.
Result: "Chic looks just dainty"
LOL @ Darren Murph. Only at Engadget.
Looks like an extra large soap
Well, just got a 1Tb one of those from a buddy who went to South Korea last week...
It actually uses a Hitachi HDT21010SLA360 drive. Still couldn't find much info on it since it seems to be a asian product but so far from my first 10-15min with it, it's quite good. Very silent, low heat and the transfer rate seems to be reasonable at least: got 30mb/s without any problems so far.
Unfortunatelly this is a 16mb cache drive only BUT at least, 7200rpm.
