if the 15 inch pavilion will be core i7 and for $785, that will be AWESOME
@mikmik111 lol I thought it was a laptop.
HP laptops are pretty awesome with a decent price/performance ratio.
@Techie The three HP Laptops I have bought also had high Price/Breakdown ratios.
@mikmik111
I'd be stoked to see a I7 chip that wasn't the cheapest one in something for around the price point.
@Techie
what's the name of that girl in your picture?
@mikmik111 I wouldn't not spend money on a HP laptop....garbage!
@(Unverified) Wouldn't not? Glad to hear you would definitely buy an HP!
@Helvetica
Yah same here and their customer support was unhelpful to say the least. Never buying and HP, just bought the dell studios.
@mikmik111
You still got hope.
"the 14-inch HP Pavilion dv4i, a Windows 7 laptop with a flush display and fingerprint reader that should run about $785"
Doesn't say about processor, but hey the model name has an "i" in it.
Not bad... but these are just more of the same.
@RockNStuff
yea exactly its just more crap to sift through and pass on at best buy. why dont they get some actual designers in there and make something nice/new/groundbreaking/different/useful... i mean come on look at one of these and compare to one from 5 years ago, its the same! so what the specs got bumped up a bit thats to be expected, i just think they are lagging in the creative dept. (and i dont mean releasing a macbook pro clone and calling it creative, get something new out there hp)
@RockNStuff Thus by inductive reasoning we can conclude that due to the high amount of replication... yes.... these will blend
@batko

How about some of you kids getting a clue that the vast majority of people just need a decent machine with up to date specs, and aren't looking for companies to break the sound-barrier with every new model they release or funky "for the hell of it" designs?
You want "ground breaking"? Then dont expect sub-$1000 prices.
This may shock you but most people on this planet are using computers made between 2000 and 2008, so these machines are incredible for the speed and price.
@RockNStuff Yup, BORING!
HP Fansite has info about the new dv4i. Says the only changes are processor, graphics and RAM. Why do they even need to bother re-launching it as a new dv4"i" anyway?!
@RockNStuff Oops, info is located at this link: http://hpfansite.com/hp-pavilion/coming-2010-hp-pavilion-dv4-compaq-netbook-hp-pavilion-elite-desktops/
@Engadget, can we please have an edit function for comments please? Thx
@Reznov Did you even read your link? They designated this computer dv4i because they're putting the mobile quad-core i5 (or i3) in there.
In any case, if you guys care about aesthetics so much, why don't you just go get a good looking computer already instead of douching around with shit like "Oh it looks the same. fail!". It really doesn't matter if this thing resembles a 1979 Honda Civic, if the specs and performance are good, people are gonna go pick one up.
@LAY
you are missing my point... i didnt say i only want apple and anything apple is the way to go. i said hp needs some inovation not the same computer rebadged. and yea $1000 is a lot of money, and yea i do expect some innovation for that $ or im not going to spend it. my point is that while the specs are super important so is the design and practicality of the thing, and hp just doesnt have that figured out. i dont want a computer that looks like it was made in 1992 and i dont want cheap feeling plastic (dont give me this bs about a piece of metal in the lid/bottom costing 500$ more, its crap... it would cost hp $5 (tops) more to make the case out of metal rather than plastic but then people wouldnt buy their premium lines...)
@N900
There is no mobile QUAD-CORE Core I3/I5. It is still dual cores.

zzz... can i haz arrandale?
I'm tired of the 10.1" models; let's have more of the 11.6" and 12.1" ones instead.
@gerrrg
yah, lets make the netbooks larger and less portable.
@health
Exactly!! I Hate how the gap between ultra-portables and netbooks are being bridged... 10.1" is probably the best size for a netbook, especially if you have like a 14" or 15" laptop like I do, otherwise the difference between em are waaay too small...
@health
Yah. I'd prefer if netbooks were much bigger so they weren't portable at all. I just hate the idea of a computer I can carry in one hand. SO inconvenient.
@health
you people really p*ss me off at times, Alright yeh hp aint the greatest laptop maker but neither is apple but u still choose to waste double the cost of a laptop with same spec on a mac machine are you dumb! If you want a 12inch laptop, GO BUY ONE STOP MOANING ABOUT NETBOOKS THEY ARE USED FOR THE NET IT'S IN THE NAME! it's not meant to be an all seekin all destroyin power house they are designed for everyday task use. How can u sit hear and say it's the same old thing, WHAT DO YOU WANT! it was only two years ago netbooks first come onto the scene and they have come along way in design and power since then stop crying about every single laptop that comes out looking the same and then taking a dig at ones that try something new at least they are trying unlike apple who release the same thing under a new name every year on EVERY product and charge $1200 for a desktop that's as user friendly as a chocolate teapot, $280 i would buy it anyday to use as a netbook, people on here sometimes are like a dog with a bone use are worser than american idol groupies when it comes to laptops.
@health
"yah, lets make the netbooks larger and less portable."
Agreed, if we're talking about throwing Atom in it. But a nice thin 12" is a real sweet spot for an ultraportable with a real ULV proc in it. I hope to see more of those.
Check out the Acer 1410 to see what I mean.
@Huffman
i feel like you seriously missed the sarcasm in my original post.
calm down sir.
Anyone from HP, if by any chance you read these comments, PLEASE try to change the mousepads on your computer. I bought the dm3 from HP and I adore the computer but come on. I don't think you should depend on finger grease to make your mousepads work. These pads get disgusting to the touch and look and it's not like there are no other good options out there.
@Monkeytofu not just the mousepads but the whole laptop.
@Monkeytofu Absolutely! My girlfriend and I both have recent model pavilions and we both have this problem with the trackpad. I try to use an external mouse but even light use rubs my finger raw. If my finger isn't already oily, dragging it across the surface is actually painful.
@Monkeytofu
try moving ur finger over the trackpad VERY gently, then you'll get the perfect touch. I've had one of those trackpads for many years and have discovered that using your finger very gently results in the desired action.
Go and try it, then report back!
@zxcvbnnm Agreed. Think of the trackpad as a Capacitive screen and not Resistive. Pressing and sliding your finger across the pad is actually the problem here. A gloss trackpad requires a light, reasonable touch. Besides, they make what they wanna make and a majority of people don't care about the trackpad in general, otherwise they would have BEEN changed it. DWI.
Good Luck HP!
Obviously they're not trying to compete with Apple, looks wise anyway.
That laptop doesn't bring anything new at all on the outside, same with the display.
I literally doesn't offer much new stuff, outside wise.
The only major changes I see is on the inside. Which is definitely important, but I think that the rest matters too.
Well, whatever. Good luck HP. You'll need it
No new good laptops :(
*gasp*
Now, who broke those links?
Oh yea, more ultra glossy fingerprint magnets with ugly designs all over them. HP can you please just make a plain matte notebook? I almost settled on a dm3 until I touched that atrocious track pad.
@High
"Oh yea, more ultra glossy fingerprint magnets with ugly designs all over them."
Hahaha HP summarized
HP has always been fail...no new expectations here.
Does anyone know if HPs/Compaqs are better than those dv6xxx/dv9xxx laptops that plagued HP for a couple of years?
ugh their consumer line looks gaudy and amateur. its like they hired a bunch of high school art students to pick their materials, texture, colors and all that. And I bet the build quality is nothing to be proud of, with 30 min battery life and shiny cheap plastic that cracks and flexes.
I would look into their business models which are made pretty well and are decent performers.
Whatever, that is to be expected from a budget computer maker.
@poematik14 Exactly, their consumer notebooks have these random swirls and patterns plastered all over them Yes, I value function over form, but why can't they go down the design route of the no-nonsense ProBook line or the HP 5101?
did the people at hp just suddenly discover a laser etcher and are now incorporating it into everything they can?
"I laser etched a pattern onto the screen!"
"Cool!"
Grrr, every HP laptop and netbook I've bought to date has been good. I hope my next one craps out after a month so I can join the great guys and gals who make bickering so attractive.
@Chris Aubeck
my current laptop is my first one from HP, but i've already sent my dv5t in twice for screen issues, and now it has a vertical line of dead pixels, i just haven't sent it in again. i'm getting kinda pissed.
@Everyone that is bitching about notebook designs....
How much external design can actually go into a laptop? I mean it's all screen , keyboard, touchpad. They all look the same from 5 or more feet away....even Macs!
Dell tried something new with the Adamo XPS.............and everyone whines about it ( wouldn't surprise me if it's the same lot of you).
@(Unverified)
Ya, the HP design is always atrocious and makes plastic look even worse than it should.
It's gone from terrible tribal designs to mosaics lately. At least it's not tribal anymore...
Surprised to see so many people bitching and moaning,I have an hp laptop and up to now I've never had a problem with it.
@kitsune
They probably had a few dv and tx1000 series w/ (well documented) thermal design flaws. They're mostly good though.
Ohh, just ordered for a HP Dv8t notebook
