XCM Fire takes the "light" out of light gun, still looks sufficiently violent
XCM's Fire gun controller for the PS3 might look like something you use for aiming at precise segments on your screen that happen to contain the heads, torsos or legs of your enemies; you know, like a light gun. Instead the controller is a motion-sensing affair, with dual analog controls along for the ride -- more of an augmentation of traditional console controls than a replacement. We've seen this fail miserably before (see: SIXAXSIS), but we're willing to give XCM the benefit of the doubt. The Fire controller is supposedly "70 percent done," and there are a couple demo videos after the break. We still want a GameGun.

if the pen is mightier than the sword. so too then is the mouse mightier than the motion-tracking laser gun. i mean obviously... circa 1992 all over again.
@buoy Yeah except that in 1992 the gun was blazingly fast and where you fired is where it hit... Then again it was vs Duck Hunt not Call of Duty World at War... LOL
@buoy
PEW! PEW!
Sweet! I want one!
i still prefer the ps3 mouse
@iRawr
Thank you. All these gun controllers would be (almost) a moot point if the they would just add Mouse/Keyboard support. I mean, COME ON!
so finally a gun to use with lcd and plasma tvs. only took them how long to make something like this
@danhawk911
Have you seen the Wii? All of the gun games work along these lines just they use the sensor bar.
With there new 'motion plus' addon I'm sure this kind of aiming tracking can be done allot better. Actually Wii Sports Resort, the Archery game in that, follows your aiming up/down/left/right by moving around and not using the sensor bar. So ah its already been done.
@xXJackXx
Thought I'd also add, that a company has released a gun as well that uses two sensor bars, one at the top of screen one at the bottom which would provide point at screen aiming. Where the Wii and this motion controller don't appear to do.
@danhawk911
The LCD topgun came out years before Wii, uses the same infrared sensor bar technology, and worked on PS2/XBOX on LCD TVs.
So we've had it for ages.
Anything to avoid using controller for FPS. (for some people)
@Almo then get the FragX. It pwns.
@Cheesus Crust
Have done. The sensitivity & cheap tatty feel sucks.
@Almo Fragnstein has better build quality.
@Cheesus Crust I managed to pick up a few FragFX(v1) off ebay. I would definitely not be playing Call of Duty on my ps3 without it. Sure the build quality isn't great, but I still like it a lot better for FPS. In fact before I got it, I never even bothered with FPS on my ps3 because of the sixaxis/no mouse.
Sucks for us lefties.
@frotal
When Man makes mistakes, it's called 'Evil'.
When God makes mistakes, they're called 'Lefties'.
What game is that?
@WestCoastG
Looks like world at war.
@kris120890 Think so too :)
Duck Hunt in HD here we come!
I hate the sixaxis, all it did was screw up my grenade throwing in Uncharted.
@FauxNews
You should play Flower or flOw then, they'll change your mind :)
I actually made one of these this past weekend only I used a Wii-Zapper with a wiimote with motionplus. I used Glovepie 4.2. I fired up Quake2 on my pc and it played just as nicely as the video above.
Sweet
umm.... i think ill just stick to a controller. i could see that thing absolutely failing online. but since there are probably allot of people who would like it, i guess its not so bad
huuuuuuuuum.... motion controller, it sounds familiar
In this demo it does offer some enticement. However, how does the motion sensing controller work if you have to look behind you?
I suppose there is going to be a button to turn your character around 180 degrees, otherwise, unless you have a 360 degree monitor, you might have a slightly difficult time playing the game.
Hmm, is it just me or do both of those videos look somewhat fake?
Almost like they've just synced controller movement with the gun movement and even that's not as accurate as it could be. *shrug*
