Apple iPad's user interface in pictures
The Apple iPad won't be out for another 60 long days for us mere mortals, so we've got our hands on its SDK -- it's the next best thing for now, as you can see in the gallery of screenshots below. Strangely, the emulator's bezel is a tad thinner than the real thing, but what's more bizarre is how we've managed to pull up a camera and phone call UI element. Have a look yourself.

@THizzle7XU
well, its called an ipad. where do you think it fits?
The only UI I would care to see on the iPad would be webOS.
THAT is something I could get excited about...
@Cwill127 yeah then you could actually multitask
@Cwill127
Yo Mama is so fat, she uses an iPad as an iPhone
i'm not buying an iPad. Period.
16 GB: For light flow
32 GB: For normal flow
64 GB: For heavy flow
(Not my own)
@Cwill127 MOAR iTampon MOAR MOAR!!
@kando
PMS? You obviously need an iPad.
@xxgunnerxx that joke would be very funny if I was 11.
@Cwill127
Am I the only one who thinks that it would of been much cheaper if you could just buy a 10 inch external display that can dock an ipod touch into it's back? That way the display would output the ipod's OS at a higher resolution and be used as a touch screen as well?
@Cwill127
Then tell Palm to create THEIR OWN TABLET.
With their own ecosystem.
Until then quit bitching. You were NEVER going to buy the iSlate no matter what it had going on.
That's a cold hard fact. You apple haters were going to bash it for any reason.
@nnonlyyou The Fuck you spamming about AssHat?
@TheRogueFFAngel I disagree. I was very excited for this, because as useless as tablets sound on paper, I was sure Apple could do something to make everyone want it. I log on to Engadget today to find out that it's...a giant ipod touch. Extremely disappointing.
Now that I've thought about it, the only phone OS I want on a tablet would be WebOS.
The level of hate in the iPad posts is truly saddening and a little bit disturbing but we are all entitled to our own opinions.
I was thinking about an MBA but the iPad is cheaper and does everything I need for home an travel, I will definitely be checking out one when they arrive in store.
@Henzapper
And you are completely 100% entitled to your opinion dude.
I'm not going to argue that people who don't like the product are wrong. But to say that it's the worst thing ever and that it doesn't provide anything enticing IS false.
Apple showed a new device with a few new interesting things.
Some of those things are interesting to me. Some are not. That's just me.
I'm just sick of the blatant trolling. I'm sick of people bashing this good website.
It's shocking to me that they don't ban the idiots who run around here insulting the writers themselves and fellow posters.
Just because I happen to LIKE my iPhone doesn't make me:
1) Idiot
2) A cultist
3) A bad person
4) An uninformed person
I'm SICK of the steroetypes from the apple haters.
I just want people to think rationally. If you DON'T LIKE THIS WEBSITE why the hell are you visiting it?
Simple logic tells me that you would MOVE ON to another website.
But of course that's not what the haters do.
this is a rotten apple, more asus Eee pad or hp slate news pls.
@Cwill127 Sad their still using those dumb app icons.
@Cwill127 What's with the Androidesque search bar at the top of the home screen--a nod to a successful mobile UI metaphor? Personally I think this hardware idiom would make a lot more sense running Android on an Atom, essentially a stripped to the core Eee PC for around $200. Given the extra horse power and WiFi-ness there's absolutely no reason NOT to multitask, plus it would be a cheaper platform. This is the type of device you'd want several of in a typical (yuppie) household, so $500 is way too much. For $200 I'd have one stuck to a kitchen cabinet for recipes/calendar/message board, one on the coffee table, one in the bedroom, etc.
@Cwill127
Confirmed:
MS courier will pwn the ipad like a warcraft noob gets pwnd on his first day playing
@pachi72 you just gave a perfect example to emphasize TheRogueFFAngel's points.
@Cwill127
"bezel is a tad thinner" my arse. They couldn't execute a thin bezel on the real thing, why lie about it with the SDK? Is it meant to show what they were shooting for (and failed)?
@TheRogueFFAngel Dude, no one is saying that there are not real Apple haters out there, but there are those who hate everything that is not from Apple as well.
Some of us were actually hoping for a great product, something revolutionary. Personally I am not bashing the product, I am mad at all the time the tech blogs spent calling this the greatest tablet ever. We waited 7 long years for what, an iPod with a 9.7 inch screen?
The idea here is not that the iPad is bad, it's what it could have done and all the hype that was centered around it which it did not live up to.
Although the hype around the iPhone was immense, it lived up to every bit of it. Yes it has it's drawbacks like every other device but it actually changed the game? Will the iPad change the game? I don't think so. Will it sell millions? Probably yes.
So please, not everyone who is bitching about the iPad hates Apple. What we hate is the amount of PR that was spent on a device that does not deliver, now if you will excuse me, I have to get back to editing movies on Final Cut Pro...
@New Reformation
There is no Courier Book. It was just a fake concept device that was never actually made. The closest you'll get to a Courier Book is two Zune HDs duct-taped together to look like a book. Microsoft has nothing. That's why every Windows tablet was a massive failure. Go back to your $300 netbook. It suits you and Microsoft Windows customers perfectly. Steve Ballmer is probably sobbing in a bar somewhere.
@TheRogueFFAngel There are less than 100 of these idiots. But we have to deal with them. Arrogant stupidity is not a crime (yet) so they will continue rather than make their own website. They are talentless assholes who flip burgers for a living and hate anything that could possibly be popular.
@Average White Boy yes yes, they have nothing; those MS boys just sit on their ass and don't release anything intuitive or of value. riiiiiiight
@Average White Boy
Courier is a concept which Gizmodo has reported is an actual device in the works. You're very past tense in your post.
Anyway, Tablet PCs may not have the market success of an iPhone, but at least I have flash, can multitask, install any program I want, have native ink support, and can connect any device I want to it without having to buy an adapter.
@00iEye00 iPoop
I saw that on a baby's t-shirt... funny as shit...oh wait. ;)
@bullshitexpresscom Because it is neither arrogant nor is it presumptuous to say "They are talentless assholes who flip burgers for a living and hate anything that could possibly be popular."
Seriously, grow up. Now, I know it is common to take people who have opposing views, and slander them. But chances are they are just regular people like you, doing whatever it is you do.
There is a lot to like and dislike about the ipad, and both sides should be allowed to be vocal about it. But being rude? That isn't acceptable.
Whats with the 'touch to return to call'? Is there a secret feature Steve forgot to tell us about?
@malibumac That's already in the iPhone. Allows you to hold the call, and access the phone to look up other information, say from a text message or web, then return to the call.
@jasondefaoite I realize that, i'm just wondering why they would include it in a device that CAN'T MAKE CALLS.
@jasondefaoite i think he meant like "i thought this was suppose to be a tablet only" sort of deal. its weird... even though i would expect a large speaker for you to make your calls... it just isnt very convient to use that device as a phone.
i am also wondering one in one of the pics there is a take a photo option in the contact menu.... i thought there was no camera. RUMORS!
@malibumac Ya I saw that and it could be a mistake...
@malibumac
Yeah that was weird...
What is this about?
@malibumac
Steve was so excited about the iPad that He forgot his One More Thing...
@malibumac
Not just that .. one of the screenshots shows a "Take Photo" option .. when the thing hasn't a camera.
@malibumac
ok, i think i get it now!! i was seriously confused about this when i first saw it. it's the same sdk used for the iphone apparently, but you'd figure that since the ipad has no phone features, there'd be no reason for it to show up in the first place...
That home button is seriously absurd.
This is the groundbreaking apple? Adding a background after 4 iterations of the same hardware? This is awesome...?
@bougelahi
hehe
@bougelahi
Is this the thing that apple has finally announced? Completely uninspired :(
@bougelahi
You know how Apple always reveals another feature in between the time it's announced and the time's it's available for sale. They carefully chose the name 'iPad' for a reason. They're going to save the announcement of the next feature for a different occasion - for a particular time of the month.
@bougelahi Not awesome, magical!
@bougelahi wow your right i forgot there were 3 ipads out before this one . . . crazy it took the 4th ipad to get background pictures . . .
Is it really necessary to have 10+ iPad articles on the home page? Put them all under one heading FFS for those of us who don't care.
@cjwild
10+? at one point 15/20 articles on the first page were ipad articles.
(It might be a giveaway of how the second gen of iPad might look like...)
Remember the GOLDEN rule of business: If there's no problem - there's no profit...:)
Apple's success is obvious for obvious reasons...
It's just the iPhone os. I really thought the tablet would have some version of the current osx. I don't like much appl products other than my old tiger mac and I find myself thinking about how good this thing could have been.. I hope the Courier shows appl how it's done and sends them back to the drawing board. This was a wasted opportunity. Another macbook air >_>
Just wondering, if you got the WiFi only iPod, could you connect your iPhone to it via bluetooth/USB to tether the phones 3G connection?
I mean WiFi only iPad....
Dear Apple,
We want a product that is revolutionary. That does things other products did nor do. The iPad does not meet this guideline. The iPad fails.
Thanks,
The People
@Apple Fan
it doesn't have to do something no product has ever done, it's just supposed to do it better. unfortunately, this thing does nothing better.
