EAFT Magic Tile and Compal tablets shown in India, Tegra 2 and Android in tow
We heard earlier this month that half a hundred ARM-based tablets would be launching this year, and it's pretty safe to say that these will be two of 'em. Shown off recently in Mumbai, India's own EAFT spurred interest with its Magic Tile, a presumably Billy Mays-endorsed Tegra 2-based tablet that runs on Android. We're told that it's equipped with a 7-inch touch panel (1,024 x 600 resolution), a front-mounted 1.3 megapixel webcam for video chats, 1080p video encoding / decoding abilities, optional 3G, a battery good for 8 hours of usage, inbuilt accelerometer, Bluetooth, HDMI output and a USB socket to round things out. All told, it's a pretty well-specced machine, though we're certainly hoping that the design gets a little TLC before it's launched in Q3 for an undisclosed rate. In related news, a Compal tablet was also on display, boasting a similar 7-inch layout, a Tegra 2 chip within, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, a 3 megapixel camera and a complete lack of WiFi (gasp!). Head on past the break for a hands-on vid.
Update: We thought this thing looked familiar. If you had the same feeling, it's probably because the Magic Tile is actually that ICD Ultra tablet we played with a little while back. Still, "Magic Tile" has a catchy ring to it.

Disneyland FTW.
A tablet with no Wifi? Than what's the point? It's like a cell phone with no Cellular Radio.
@Prevacator It's like a dvd player without a dvd slot.
@Prevacator It's like a prostitute who would only go to first base....
@Prevacator It doesn't have WiFi but that doesn't mean it has no internet at all. It appears to have a simslot so there's 3G.
@Prevacator
Its like a music player without any buttons....
Ohh wait.
@Kamil R
Even the most touch-oriented PMPs have at least one or two dedicated buttons.
@Prevacator
I was implying the iPod Shuffle thank you very much.
@Kamil R
It has buttons on the earphone which is a more appropriate place to put them, I reckon.
@Prevacator It's like a glory hole in the bathroom at the... oh we're not doing these any more.
I love the guy at 2:17 arguing with the woman like he's persuading his wife to let him buy one.
man: it has 3G
woman: does it have a port for internet
man: no it uses 3G. Look you get RSS feeds, Hindu, BBC
woman: mm, uh huh, what about my feed
man: look bitch you can add your own feeds
HOLY CRAP LOOK AT THAT LOGO
@SecretlyFat
Well it is a Magical clone
Not to mention the idiotic glossy screen.
Time to switch out the tiles in my bathroom with these magic tiles.
More RAM, Less ugly please.
@Edobe
how much ram do you want?
@NIMBUS 1 GB at least
@Edobe
What are you going to be doing now with 1 GB of RAM on a phone?
@Dafrety Where do you see a phone at?
@Edobe
AHCKFHAB TABLET SORRY. Still, my half assed-point still stands. Android is a Phone OS. It is a bit resource hungry, but not enough to warrant 1 GB of memory currently. If it was a Windows, (desktop) Linux, or Mac OS X tablet then 1 GB or more would make sense.
was anyone else reminded of the Etch-A-Sketch things of a generation back?
holy ugly logo batman! 80's infomercial look? o.O
Screw this thing the smakit s7 is so much better looking has a better cam flash 9 and wifi with 3g too and it has all the same specs this thing has plus the smakit has 2 usb the bad thing about it is it only plays 720 p and it's a MID not a full on 10 inch tablet it's still 7 inch that's good enough
ORDER IN THE NEXT 30 MINUTES AND WE'LL INCLUDE THESE GREAT STEAK KNIVES
Wow, it doesn't have a name that ends with the word "pad". That's a victory in itels
itself*
I'll wait for the ADAM or WePad.
No one cares that it multitasks bc there isn't any wifi?
Ohh and "does it blend?" yawn
@hated one
nice? Yes. Revolutionary? Don't think so.
ZOMG IPAD KILLER1111
@mattlev15
Yeah, you just have to go to Mumbai to get it serviced. Good luck with that. We'll see how many consumers in India actually buy tablets.
Lovin' the slideshow-tastic , in-line video there.
So many tablets with Tegra 2 running Android... I just want a smartphone with the same, PLEASE
@Wesley
So did I, but it looks like HTC and Qualcomm won't be parting ways anytime soon.... also, look at that fugly POS. NVIDIA chose the wrong crowd to hang out with.
Is that the notion ink adam concept in the middle on 0:16?
@hated one
No 16:9 ratio
No webcam
No 1080p video playback
No HDMI out
No USB
No ....
No thanks to that 'revolution'.
More like MagicPile!
I hope NVIDIA is proud with its choices for hardware partners. Should we expect the same top-notch partners when your Tegra 2 smartphones come out in H2 2010?
I miss Billy Mays.
ENOUGH TABLETS ALREADY!!!!!
Is this more magical than the ipda?
@Sogeking
ipad*

@warhawk : umm....sorry....dont wanna get grounded by papa steve....he'll take my ipad away!!
just as I was about to notify, you guys updated. Yup, it's the rebranded version of ICD Ultra and has its own Magic Tile UI. You can find more images here.

Apple has a patent on "Magic", all instances of its use, and any usage of the word. Watch out, MagicTile. You too, Disney and Harry Potter!
@onlymyrailgun Don't forget "revolutionary" either. They'd be after Ché if they could.
That Compal seems rather nice. I think a tablet could come in handy as long as it plays videos well.
