Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 finally arrives in UK, T-Mobile will deliver it within 10 days
At long last, the protracted wait for Sony Ericsson's first Android phone is coming to an end. T-Mobile's web store has this morning added the Xperia X10 to its stable of mobile devices, though it requests 10 days' worth of patience before getting the handsets out to their impatient new owners. Pricing is surprisingly higher than that associated with the HTC Desire -- the £15 per month two-year contract that nets you the Nexus One clone for £129 ($194) requires a steeper £191 ($287) for the X10. Mind you, with that delivery delay dragging you into April, you might want to hold out a tiny bit longer to see what propositions Vodafone may have in store for prospective purchasers of the X10.

More vaporware for the U.S.?
Havent really seen any updated video "leaks" of the UI... Last time i checked the animations were pretty stuttery. So um, Engadget, yeaaa about that X10 review, waiting patiently
@Hussain Rahim
Finally!!!
@ComboBreaker
Phonedog uploaded one over the weekend. Here: http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2010/03/sony-ericsson-x10-unboxing-and-hands-on/
@Hussain Rahim Yeah, I think Vlad's just trolling you guys today! :P
if it comes stateside it'll be about $800 (guessing) and won't be available for about 6 months.
@Hussain Rahim Hate to say it, but vaporware is right man. Sony knows how to botch a US release like no other. X1a was released and retracted repeatedly practically a year after its original announcement. The X2a isn't even offered yet (and the X1a is sold out) so there are ZERO Sony smartphones being sold by Sony in the US right now. Half their lineup on www.sonyericsson.com is "comming soon" and has been for months. And yea, the X10, and X10minis? I doubt I'll be seeing US variants until sometime next year.
You'd think Sony went bankrupt and forgot to shut down its website or something.
FREE? woaa...
@unknownsolo
When you pay £35 a month
@coolius yea, £35 a month for the cellphone plan ,but you getting the phone free
@unknownsolo : Strictly speaking you're getting the handset for about £15/month, and paying £20/month for the service contract, based on T-Mo's 12-month SIM-only rates.
@unknownsolo
Yeah, this is the norm in the UK
@coolius thats still a good deal considering how much the phone costs in retail.
Did anyone still want this?
@Weber 09
You'd be surprised.
feature list is not what everyone is after. Implementation of those feat. is more important, especially here in the UK where one of the most sold mobiles is still Nokia's E71!!!
If they have done a good job, it'll sell.
@(Unverified)
Well thats clearly a lie...
@Weber 09 Hells yea, where have you been? What Android phone has a bigger screen or bigger camera? And even though its late, its still at the top in terms of processor.
@Weber 09
I'm confused. It's X10, right? So I can control my house lights and what not with it?
damn you tmob USA, u need to get ur act straight...
Already pre-ordered mine - expected delivery Monday 29th March ... roll on next monday!
HTC Desire, Nexus 1 or SE X10 ??
tough decision
@beckhams777
Or HTC Legend?
@beckhams777 True, all are sexy phones! The HTC Desire or the S.E.X10...I think Nexus One might need to be renamed to the Sexus One to fall in line with the naming trend!
@beckhams777
The Desire, SE are a useless company, dont expect any timely updates or build quality.
is this running 2.1? in the demo wasn't it running 1.5?
@PrinceAli 1.5
@cashclientel
It's 1.6 for the time being, upgrade to 2.x promised at a later date (2.1 or 2.2 probably)
@cashclientel
I'm sorry, but what's that about? I know there's a lead in time that means you can't always release with the latest OS version, but the Droid had 2.0 in September.
I hate to say "Fail", but with the competition out there, this is great hardware sold short.
T-mobile is rocking it.
good - x10 = want one
I have pre-ordered a HTC Desire, But I am considering cancelling that order. I like the 4" screen, and the dedicated camera button! Not to mention the 8.1MP camera!
But HTC does have the AMOLED screen. Oh I don't know what to do?
Need some advice guys
@sebmason
I prefer to give phones a test drive before purchase.
Go Android! From victory to victory!
If you like Android the N1 is the best choice, because at least you'll be able to install new versions of the OS as they emerge. Whereas a carrier/branded phone you can be stuck.
Hoping the X10 will have a really good camera, better than the iPhone/N1.
Wish this would come to O2 - I get a 30% discount on my monthly bills but I can't leave them because I'll lose it! Shame that O2 SUCK.
hey... where's mine?
-usa
Wanted one as everything from SE started to became wrong: satio fw fails, x2 out almost one year late, X10 had THE snapdragon(now almost every manufacturer has it), it´s on android 1.6 (65k colors??) when everybody (even the low spec'ed Hero) is getting 2.1.
Now I´m looking to samsung (wave) or HTC (Desire) or if Nokia is fast enough the N8-00...
Sorry for SE but since K810 nothing really good has come out from them.
With the Nexus One, who wants this now? Really, the X10 was exciting, was.
@pika2000 The only realy problem with this phone is that SE repeatedly delays and delays some more. As for comparing it to the Nexus One, besdes shipping w/o 2.1 right now and lacking AMOLED, the X10 seems to win.
1. x10 has a larger screen
2. X10 has a better camera
3. X10 looks infinitely better than the bland Nexus One (IMO of course)
4. X10 has better outdoor visibility
5. X10 has mediascape with is likely bettern than the stock (paltry) Android media plaery
6. HTC phones almost always have poor sound quality not even besting the iPhone, SE phones almost always have better than iPhone sound quality.
@Luxury Guy
1-4: Pointless, as the Nexus One is already out, while the X10 is not even shipping. How can an imaginary product be better than a real shipping product?
5. This should be remedied once Anroid app store is in full force. Anybody can make a music playback program for Android.
6. SE phones are better than HTC? Do you know who actually made the Sony X1? HTC. Yup, the X1 was made by HTC. This Sony stuff sounds better is purely subjective. My previous phones were SE (one was Walkman branded), and they sound just as bad as any other phones.
@pika2000 I guess you could discount everything I said based on your observation that the X10 isn't shipping. Or you could just get with the program, and realize that this whole comparison is based on the fact that the phone will be available in 10 days.
As for the X1 and sound, yes an HTC factory put the phone together, but SE specced the phone (i.e. chose its components including speaker, DAP, ect,), and developed the music player. And it shows as the Touch Pro and Touch Pro2 don't have the audio fidelity of the X1 or other SE walkman phones (your old Walkman, is just that...OLD, with old DAP and related hardware). As for subjectivity, check the stats: response frequency, noise ratio, ect. Even Engadget's brief review says that the X10 has abnormally absent noise for a phone.
Android 1.6 and 100% guaranteed to never be upgraded because of the stupid skin (look at the original HTC Hero), with devices like the Supersonic days away.... Yeah, who cares about this?
Too little, too late.
@Johnny Rockets Sigh.... they already gave an official announcement that it would be updated. I think Engadget even reported on it.
@Luxury Guy
And your point being...?
EVERYONE is giving an official statement that upgrades are coming. NONE of them are actually delivering.
I'm willing to bet that SE's promise of an upgrade is just so sales don't stall.
Let's make a bet: when do you think 2.1 will actually get rolled out to this phone?
I guarantee not before 2010 is over (if the update ever comes that is).
@Johnny Rockets My point being that if they made an official statement they will release it. Either way, Its a pretty simple concept, and their lawyers would not have let them put out an official statement w/o actual plans to follow through.
As for when they will release it, who knows. Sony sucks at meeting any deadlines, that's a commonly known fact.
FYI: Companines have little incentive to even say they will considering the tech crowd that follows these things is a paltry minotrity. So if they do actually announce an update, just be patient man... Have you ever waited for a WinMo update? Those things take quarters to actually be released by the manufactuer after MS makes its announcement. But they always come when the company says that it'll make one.
does the uk version have 1700/2100 feq?
@kof2000 900/1800 = europe
Might of been interested 6 months ago when this was new and cool. now its old and busted. No thanks Sony.
Very nice indeed,
BUT
None of the 3 top 1ghz android phones has a front facing camera for video skype...
Im going to wait till July to see if the new iphone has FFCamera and can actually M-U-L-T-I-T-A-S-K!!!
Otherwise im gonna stay with Android.
Please to U.S. T-Mobile !
