Sure,
USB 3.0 can make
external hard drives pretty snappy, but who wants to lug around a rock? We want to know where the SuperSpeed port takes our tiny USB keys, and the fine folks at
PC Perspective have the answer to that question. They found the
Super Talent SuperCrypt not only a capable performer, but nearly as fast as a modern
SSD, with average read and write speeds of 185MB / sec and 50MB / sec respectively. Given that the silver stick
costs more than an SSD, too (from $119 for 16GB to $778 for 256GB), that's not so surprising... but the idea of transferring the full contents of a dual-layer DVD from this sucker in under a minute is positively jaw-dropping. Assuming that -- like Cryptkeeper -- you still have one to drop.
whatever that is... kill it with fire. now.
@skyblaze
ah, cryptkeeper. (thats what i get for reading too fast.)
well in that case...
*puts on sunglasses*
keep HIM in a crypt.
YEAHHHHHH
@skyblaze
Nooo!

Gotta get one of these!
@Stevenk : You must love the new technology price rape.
@Stevenk Agreed... Looks like I found the perfect replacement for my super-slow 4gb Cruzer Titanium Plus.
Why is it so expensive?
@Zeth Ethereal
Because it is the Monster Cables of the USB world
@Zeth Ethereal
Because it's new.
@SamTatr
Oh and don't forget its shiny and has talent....Super Talent.
(when do I collect my money? Now or later?)
@Zeth Ethereal Because its new, its fast, and its not a regular old USB flash drive. Its probably something inline with a 1.8" SSD in construction with a dedicated controller and multiple mem banks to get the speed up.
Don't forget your USB 3 controller as an added cost and the fact that you will be 100x more pissed when you loose this like most people do their flash drive sized storage devices.
@Plazmic Flame
How much is this gonna cost me? ~_^
Wow, so in all those movies and batman anime... in the future it WILL be possible to steal the entire DEATH STAR battle plans on a super small disc in a matter of seconds...
sheet... but for the mean time thats a plenty amount of incriminating evidence...
Don't be too proud of this technological terror they've constructed AppleDrank. For i will tear any ships attempting to intercept my transmissions apart until I have found those plans, and I will show no mercy to the culprits
You should not have come back, Old man
He looks more like Qui-Gon.

Whoever picks/makes the pictures for articles is a genius.
live usb
I wouldn't mind picking up the 16GB version of this...except USB3 is so scarce...it kind of sucks actually, and Intel seems rather adamant about keeping it that way.
@DoctarPeppar I'd say it has a lot to do with Intel not wanting to spend the cash to actually redesign their southbridge chips to support it until they absolutely have too. It could also have something to do with their unholy alliance with a smug f'ker in a black turtleneck and what they demo'd at IDF in 2009.
@KAL326
Yeah, I don't buy the BS line about LightPeak not competing with USB3...Intel is doing very well for themselves, they really need to step up here and start using USB3 in their chipsets. There's no excuse, it's been a long time coming they should have had this in mind from day one of the nehalem arch.
@DoctarPeppar I agree Light Peak has pretty much fallen off the radar, but I do find it odd that Intel has let AMD get the drop on them on the southbridge. AMD's latest southbridges support SATA 3 and USB 3.0, Intel has a few changes rumored to support 1 or 2 SATA 3 ports in the upcoming 6x chipsets.
Just what the new Macbook Pro needs; something wide enough to cover the second USB port.
@Urrl
I am pretty disappointed in the new macbook pros.
There's no USB3 and they are STILL using 3gbps sata as well...sad.
No reason to bother with this drive if you are using those piece of shit laptops anyways, it won't go faster than 30 MB\sec. And since there's no expresscard slot except on the 17" model, there's no possible way to add USB3 either! Brilliant...
@DoctarPeppar
If you want all that, expect a $3000 price tag for the base model.
@Plazmic Flame
Yeah because of Intel's shitty ass chipsets and the lack of decent competition.
LOL at the title.
Still, that's pretty amazing. It looks huge.
@zeroinfinity2
That's what she said.
I want a USB 3 thumb drive, but I'm not paying this kind of early adopter tax.
Unless you're moving around with sound/movie files, doesn't seem necessary to make the jump up to the next level.
Am I the only one who's had a USB bricked (I think by virus, but I guess I can't be sure)? I even tried numerous Googled fixes, software and manual fixes. Can't get it off read only, with that experience I'd never want to pay and arm and a leg for another USB.
RIM needs to stop rehashing designs and come up with something new.
@Randoug Crap I commented on the wrong post
This wouldn't be very useful atm. Not many computers have USB 3.0.
I lawled @ the photo.
Problem with garden variety thumb drives is they're so slow they make hard drives seem fast.
