Samsung Galaxy S set for simultaneous launch in 110 countries, probably this month
According to the Korea IT Times, Samsung will be taking quite an unusual route with the launch of its upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S, by releasing it simultaneously in 110 countries around the world. Sure, it seems as much a publicity stunt as anything else, but this move indicates both a confidence in Super AMOLED supplies and, more importantly, a rapidly approaching date for the Galaxy S' retail availability. We already knew that it'll be arriving in Asia this month, so assuming this global debut is working to the same schedule, most developed countries will get their taste of Samsung's latest before the first half of the year is through. Neat, then we can pit one of these against an iPhone 4G and figure out which has the more gorgeous display.[Thanks, Martin]

So what carriers would be getting this phone?
And isn't there another version of it also coming out that has a keyboard... Galazy Pro or something like that??
@Hazdaz I haven't heard any updates on the keyboard edition (trust me, my hear is to the ground on this 1). Neo Core Gaming benchmarks just came in versus the Nexus 1 running Froyo:
N1 ~ 29 FPS
Galaxy S ~ 56 FPS
I can live without a software update for a while if/as long as it ships bug free (hehe, big "if").
Also, AFAIK, special edition SK version will contain DMB, eat your hearts out XD...eh, most of you don't care. Also, AFAIK, this is somewhat incorrect as the UK is supposed to get this at least a few weeks before the rest of EU and I think there are some other hold ups to the "simultaneous" term unless we stretch it.
@juanvaldez
damn that's fast
@Hazdaz
Hurray! There is one thing I noticed in the demos. Just how smooth and fluid the samsung galaxy was compared to all the snapdragon phones like EVO and Desire.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgbloFTOAIo
The screen is gorgeous and the UI is smooth as butter.
@Xstream Yeah, most of the other benchmarks weren't great, but still good. It only lost to the N1 (2.1) in 1 test. There was a typo in the article I noticed, so it might look like it lost in 2 but it didn't.
I forgot to post link:

@Proud Japanese
Yeah, it looks impressive, but honestly if it comes out for AT&T (which is what I suspect), then no go.
@Hazdaz
Vodafone!!
@juanvaldez If my memory serves me right that's the phone that you wanted? :)
@Hazdaz They are looking to bring it to the 4 major carriers in the US before the end of the year and it doesn't look to have an exclusive carrier at launch.
@Atkins *Drool* Yeah, most days I think I'm the only one interested in the phone on this site. This article proves slightly different, but we are a minority. This phone hasn't gotten it's fair share of hype, I think it deserves the hype even if it doesn't deserve the purchase (I understand the consumers' hesitations.)
@Atkins Oh, and I just picked up an 42" LG LED TV that has DLNA capabilities, honestly I think the feature is more compelling for being able to have some videos/songs on your phone for when you visit others but it's still going to be fun to play with and show off.
@juanvaldez Hmm. I think Samsung never gets the attention it deserves. I'll wait for your opinion when you get the device :)
@juanvaldez Congrats on the TV. You'll share media with what?
@juanvaldez I am waiting for the Motorola Flipout :)
@Atkins DNLA, wireless media sharing from phones/laptops/cameras, seems to be better incorporated into tech in Korea, so I'll be able to serve data in some friends places now and in the future, plus other places like bars, restaurants, etc. I'll have 32-48GB of data storage so I'll definitely be serving up some content.
Already started doing a bit with my laptop, which was never able to play HD smoothly but not an issue now.
@juanvaldez Wow, cool. Checking now how exactly this DLNA thingy works.
@Hazdaz Idk I also wanted to know if this is coming to AT&T or r we (the ones who have a contract with AT&T) stuck with the likes of the backflip please please say it is coming to AT&T
@Hazdaz
It still seems like ATT is afraid to piss off Apple and pick up an awesome Android handset...
@Dig Deep
I honestly do not think that is the reason - I think the exclusive contract with Apple is expensive enough for AT&T that they simply might not have the $ to also get all these other phones.
Either way though, I don't care.
I am looking to get AWAY from AT&T, so I hope that if it comes to Verizon, it gets here sooner rather than later. I'd like to pick some phone - any phone - within the end of this month. If not this one, then maybe the Incredible. I just remembered that they had shown off a keyboard version of this phone, so I was hoping some info for that version of the Galaxy was available.
@juanvaldez No, Juan, you're not alone in your interest for this phone. I'm waiting for it since its announcement...
@juanvaldez
Holy crap and that is running 2.1. Imagine if this thin get the Froyo upgrade(rumors of an upgrade coming)....HOLY CRAP. =O
@Hazdaz
Its rumored to come out in all 4 major carriers.
this is android right? and samsung is not known for updating in a timely manner.... No thanks.
@pastorbob
that sounds like it would be better to have a proprietary os with no chance for updates at all, which is absurd.
@pastorbob Yeah, Android 2.1 with Touchwiz, I think Touchwiz can be disabled in the settings.
@juanvaldez This version of touchwiz actually looks good.
@juanvaldez
hmm are you sure on the disabling part?
@Xstream i love android (I own the moto droid). However, I am a big fan of the plain old android with no custum ui... Thats all.
@Xstream Absolutely not, but I did read this on both Western and Korean blogs.
I should've maybe tried it with the Galaxy A in the store but I was happy enough to just play around and make sure I could live with Touchwiz. I'm getting it either way and I'll be sure to post if it does on whatever the latest article is.
@pastorbob
no i meant if you have any indication you can just disable it, if that is the case and there will be a pro version (keyboard) i'm so getting this
@pastorbob If they are selling it in 110 coutries, I think they will update the software, common sense.
@dementedacademic i said timely manner... not that they wont. Obviously if this phone is a hit they will continue to support it, timeframe for updates is what i would be worried about. That is all
@dementedacademic Depends on the sales more than the # of countries, though they should be somewhat correlated. I will say 1 thing this has as an advantage is that the biggest (Android) threat, EVO, probably isn't going international. - iPhone is obviously a bigger threat than the EVO.
@pastorbob They "promised" an update, of course this is Samsung. 1 thing though, out of phones that are coming out this year this is without a doubt for me the phone that is announced that I can live without an update for. Will I be happy? No, I'll likely be pissed, but if it delivers in other ways that other phones can't can I live with my decision? Absolutely.
where are the news on the galaxy s PRO?
@Xstream
I believe that was an april fools joke.
What about America?
@Snarf101 Reading stuff about Tmo in July, latest readings before that had to due with 2+ carriers in the US at launch. It's supposed to be able to hit all 4 carriers before the end of the year if they want it.
Between this, the HTC Incredible, the HTC EVO, and the Motorola Kit they're going to be pushing at Verizon, they're going to be selling a lot of Android phones over the next half of this year.
@avinash240 Couldn't find anything on a Google search for the Kit and don't recall anything on Engadget. Is that a "Superphone"?
@juanvaldez Yeah, sorry I meant to lowercase kit. = | My bad, I meant the Motorola Shadow and Droid 2.
@avinash240
Will any of these be 4G capable? I want to get a new phone but I don't want to be locked into a 2 yr contract if carriers will have 4G networks ready early next year...
@wakeuplan Besides Sprint, what other carrier will be 4G ready by early next year? I didn't think any of them would be.
All of my remaining pants are in the laundry. What do I do now?
@VJKotts
Do you have a good piece of cloth to clean your screen with?
@VJKotts
Plastic bag.
Samsung no way, so they can send out a press release that the Galaxy is unable to support Android 2.2 buy another phone bytches.
I cant decide between this or GT8500 Wave,
But im not sure about Android, the Appstore is full of useless crap and it seems no 3rd party dev. give a shit for Android.
And i saw the Wave today and fell in love with it.
i guess Samsung will intensivley promote Bada to 3rd party developers and supply many good quality apps and games like Gameloft,EA,Capcom etc.
@flanger You must be on crack. Android is outselling iPhone, why will developers not develop for Android? Because they dont like the interface?
Why is there not flash in the camera. Everything else is spectacular (especially the GPU), but there's no camera flash. Wonder what low-light pics will be like.
