This is one of those things that makes you wonder why it hadn't been done already. Apple's just unleashed an Apple Store application for its iDevices designed to pretty much give you the online Apple Store experience -- but perhaps without the crazy on-again, off-again antics of
this morning. All that's required is a device with
iOS version 3 or above, and you'll be able to read reviews, locate local brick and mortar Stores, check out new and featured products, and -- importantly -- buy or pre-order the latest goodies Steve and co have bestowed upon these lands. Alas, we tried to do just that with the
iPhone 4 and were met with the familiar "we'll be back soon" message. So the app might work, but Apple's store is still struggling.

P.S. - The app looks to be US-only for now. Sorry world, Apple doesn't love you enough.

I don't think you can. You couldn't with the 3GS.
I was able to pre-order my shiny new iPhone 4 via AT&T Premier at 7:58am eastern. And, as everyone suspected, only the black model is available

@johnhmeyer123 Understood, my point was the site renders fine on any decent mobile browser, so I have no interest whatsoever in downloading what, at least to me, seems like a fairly useless and superfluous app - especially when, if I'm going to drop $1500 on a Mac, I'd rather do peruse the store from a desktop browser.

False if you like to go back and forth to different websites or google something you just read or click on a related site, or jump to wikipedia to clarify something, or copy the link and send it to a friend or... well, you get the idea. Apps are, well, for APPLICATIONS, embedding a website in an app doesn't make much sense if you think about it...
@htd Because the real app in the browser take too much data. This is easier UI and faster. I prefer it that way.
