Motorola, Verizon announcing 'next generation of Droid' on June 23

We don't know whether this is going to be the Droid 2, the Droid X, or both, but Motorola, Google, Verizon, and Adobe -- yes, Adobe -- are all getting on stage out in New York on the 23rd of the month to announce some new Android gear. Should be exciting, so keep it locked -- because naturally, we'll be on-hand for all the festivities.

Definitely, its a perfect release date for an Android Phone(s) that will crush the iPhail 4.....However, i'm disappointed cause they wont have any good phones for AT&T

yesss indeed.. very excited for this.. especially since i cancelled my evo order last night after waiting a week for it to ship.. im pretty happy ive decided to wait around for what verizon has to offer in the next month or so and im pretty sure ill know exactly what they have to offer after june 23rd..

my thing is though, i dont want any "motoblur".. so im really hoping the droid 2 (dont care about the droid x) is coming with just stock froyo on it and no motoblur..

While that will always be true, I have a bunch of friends who months ago had no clue what a Droid was. Now they absolutely know what a Droid is, they have seen them and played with them and actually are interested. These are the kinds of people that won't bother switching carriers just for an iPhone. They will gladly find a home on Verizon or Sprint with a nice new Android phone that is just as impressive as the iPhone 4 if not more so with huge screens, flash, HDMI out, etc.

I can't even preorder to upgrade my old iPhone 3G because their Premier store isn't working right and isn't offering the iPhone 4 as an option. A nice shiny new Droid would certainly be an option if AT&T doesn't pull their thumb out of their ass and figure out what the hell they are doing in the next couple of days.

I don't understand why some ppl keep bashing non-Apple branded phones only because the iPhone sells better. Think about it, they they become elated because a giant corporation gets richer and more powerful. Do they really deserve your adoration that much? What world do you envision, one where there's only one brand and we all have Apple logos stamped on our foreheads? Nokia and RIM selling gazillions of devices is what caused Apple to compete, which in turn causes others to compete as well. Competition is a good thing. And besides, not all devices are made equally, some users need more than play -- keyboards, USB ports, full Bluetooth, etc. Grow the fuck up already.

@potretr Pretty cool indeed. They got the processor wrong though. The OMAP 3630 is a 720 MHz SoC, the 3640 is the 1 GHz version.

The OMAP 3640 is a 45 nm chip and will perform almost as well as a QSD8x50 (65 nm) Snapdragon but is significantly (~25%) more power efficient.

I think it still has a very solid place. 3.7 inch tablet. Smaller form factor, very speedy. If you think a 4.3 inch phone is overboard, Incredible might be the phone for you.

I, on the other hand, want to get my bear claws on that beast up there!

While true, it still has its "niche" as a reasonably sized android phone, that makes no sacrifices in power or storage. And while the Eris is nice, it is going away soon, so the DInc will be the only phone with Sense, which may still draw people in.

Given that the order backlog is up to 7/13, i don't think people have really stopped ordering the phone yet...

@Madcat I Agree. I had a chance to play with the Evo, felt really large LOL. I am sure I would could get used to it, but I like my Incredible and it is a pretty sweet phone. I don't understand why ppl get upset that they release different and better phones so frequently!? With the growing smartphone market, it is great to see so many quality handsets come available that are not Apple (which is still not a bad phone).

To date NOT a single android phone has outperformed nor outsold the iPhone 3GS (and of course the iPhone 4 is coming out which will continue this trend)

verizon has spent millions of these "droid does" commercials yet they still ended up losing money.

android itself is a hot mess of an OS that is fragmented and getting worse by the month.
