iMovie hits iTunes App Store, only for iPhone 4 (update)
You may not have an iPhone 4 yet -- unless you lucked out on delivery, you're probably still waiting in line -- but if you did receive Cupertino's latest opinion polarizing handset, you might have noticed it doesn't come with a tool to edit all the 720p footage of jealous friends that you just shot. Thankfully that can be remedied with a portrait of President Lincoln, as iMovie for iPhone just went live -- head on over to the App Store and drop your $4.99.
Update: Oddly enough, we're not actually seeing iMovie in the App Store on our iPhone 4 -- only in the desktop client.
[Thanks, Joel]

:o
Can't wait for the jailbreak community to make this available for ALL iDEVICE MODELS!
@uckApple Even if they do it, I wonder if it will run properly on 3G/3Gs,
will the hardware be good enough ?
@JonnyB
@jayjaync I wonder if the iPhone 4 hardware will be enough to make calls while holding it...
@uckApple my iPad is increasingly feeling like a bastard child.
first iOS4, then 512MB RAM, now this.
ITunes for iPhone Please ?, so i can sync my other iphone. :P
@uckApple it will happen sooner than expected too.
@JonnyB
It's in the App store on the iPhone 4. Just go to "Top Grossing" (for some reason it doesn't show up in the search results).
Disgruntled iPad owners: Always wait till at least Rev-B for Apple products.
But then again, without all of you crazy Rev-A purchasers, there wouldn't be an improved Rev-B. So thank you, from all of waiting for the second revision!
Will I be able to hold it in my hand and watch movies at he same time?
no 3gs love? I foresee a lot of complaining coming in 5..4..3..2..1....
We have liftoff!
pew pew pew
@Mofetti
of course not, you havent heard of apples business model?
its quite simple, they hold off on releasing simple core features because they are 'too complicated' or something, but then by the use of magic the next hardware revision has the features!! the joy!!!
@d889 iMovie isnt a simple core feature!
That seems like $5.00 too much.
Anyone else feel like this is just a way to squeeze out extra profits? I bet a good 90% or more will buy it whether they feel like they'll need it or not. This app seems like it should have been installed from the beginning, not something you should buy additionally considering all the bragging Apple's been doing around it.
@Andrew A
If a person doesn't realize they were trying to squeeze out profits, they are definitely not thinking straight. This DEFINITELY should have been pre-installed on iPhone 4's, just say, "Thanks for upgrading every year and giving us more profits so we can keep share holders happy."
@Andrew A If they pre-installed it on the phone then they'd have to start rejecting other video-editing software due to "replicating core iPhone functionality". Just like iWork etc
only for iPhone 4?
anyone else using opera having issues with the engadget site lately? Some posts like the iphone review wont fully load
@bobcobb My opera has been alright maybe you have turbo left on?
@bobcobb
yea mines been like that too. It wouldnt fully load the iPhone4 review or the D3S camera review and a bunch of others.
@griffenS nope my turbo is off
@bobcobb
on a separate note Engadget won't post my avatars no matter how many times i upload them
@bobcobb
Have you been holding your computer in your hand? The reception might not allow engadget to load properly.
@bobcobb really? i almost felt like non-iphone posts were being filtered out!
@Psyclotr0n Same here reply to me if you can get it to work
One of the reason's why I'm getting the phone in a couple of hours. I'd pay even $20!!!
@Darma
you can pay me the other $15 if you like and i promise to spend it on apple products
@Darma : Really? That's seriously one of the reasons? Not trying to be rude, but I'd like to point out that there's plenty of free video-editing desktop applications. I just have a hard time believing this is one of the deal makers for buying this.
I don't see it in the app store, am I missing something?
@niannello
Neither do I
@hated one
yeah yeah, it's getting old, mate. need some new material.
You have to pay for this? Wow. Apple really rakes you guys over the coals, and all you can say is, "Thanks, Steve!"
@sonicyoof Show me a free alternative that is as good as iMovie on any platform. Besides, it's $5. That's like a cup of coffee at starbucks.
@sonicyoof Nobody is making you buy it.
@Kevin B
Notice I said "you guys." I'm not buying it. I'm just surprised that a major "feature" of iOS 4 is something you have to pay for. That would be like Microsoft charging for Office on their phones.
Don't we need to point out FRAGMENTATION now?
This is the same problem that has plagued Android and WinMo. iOS going the same route? Guess its inevitable.
@viditbhargava
nah, this is just old fashioned obsoleting to shame the luddites still using last year's iphone (pssh!!)
@viditbhargava file system fragmentation?
@viditbhargava
not as bad as android. this is just apple not allowing the older versions to have a feature so its just a little more enticing to get iPhone 4. I mean c'mon, the 3GS could easily do this, or i would think so.
@viditbhargava
this isnt fragmentation because only a few people will buy this pos "app"
@viditbhargava
You have a point. There's already a bit of fragmentation.
First, the 3GS. I don't see many apps taking advantage of its GPU. And now this.
It's not showing up for me on my iPhone 4.
@RAGE I tried searching for it, but that didn't work. Navigate to the Photography section in iTunes on your iPhone, and you'll find it in there.
@djmattyb [correction] I tried searching for it, but that didn't work. Navigate to the Photography section in THE APP STORE on your iPhone, and you'll find it in there.
@djmattyb Thanks! Verified this workaround lets you download it from the phone itself.
@GriffinS You just want everyone to see you smashing that thing don't you? Maybe if you put it in a blender you'd be gettin more hits...
I am no user, but wouldn't it make sense for this to be on iPad too?
@bob1000
No because the current iPad has no camera. You can't edid videos if you can't take any on the iPad.
