Droid Incredible OTA update said to be bringing mobile hotspot, 720p recording
Well, it looks like Droid Incredible owners might soon be rewarded with more than a $25 gift card -- Droid Life is reporting that the phone is set to get an OTA update that will add some of the most oft-requested features. That includes mobile hotspot functionality, 720p video recording and, last but not least, the familiar Droid red eye boot animation that's been curiously absent. No word on a rollout date just yet, but Droid Life's tipster has provided some pics, and a video of that boot sequence (check it out after the break).

Mobile Hotspot.. you mean paying $30/mo?
Root + WiFi Tether... kthxbye.
@liquidkernel Verizon needs a decent phone, this is the closest they have to that.
@Son Of a Gun It is a great phone, I'm not hating. I give Verizon lots of credit for pushing Android forward with their aggressive advertising and sales. I'm an Evo user, so I support all Android devices. I'm just commenting on how Sprint and Verizon have these $30/mo hotspot apps.
@liquidkernel It would be better if all the U.S. carriers had free tethering like the Nexus One with Froyo. The world would be a better place.
@liquidkernel Verizon needs to make mobile hotspot a free feature. Only Palm Pre owners get that. Unacceptable.
@liquidkernel
I have an iPhone....what's a Mobile Hotspot?
Oh wait, I found it.....its called MyWi.
Best $20 ever spent on an app.
@bob1000 The Pre has free tethering? Holy crap. Wonder why Sprint chose to do that. When I was buying my Evo, they tried to sell me on the $30/mo mobile hotspot feature. I just smiled and kindly declined.
@BMills I have an Evo... what's a mobile hot spot? Oh wait, I found it WiFi Tether for Root Users... best $0 I ever spent.
@BMills PDAnet, the best Zero dollars I ever spent.
@liquidkernel EVO = brick
@Mori Brick as in.. how big it is? The Droid X is bigger, but has the same size screen. So.. yeah.
@liquidkernel Been waiting for the 720p update. I could care less about the WiFi tethering because I only use a desktop and use my incredible as my on-the-go computer so don't need it.
@liquidkernel The Pre on Verizon has free mobile hotspot. Don't know about the AT&T or Sprint versions.
@liquidkernel he was referring to the update that "bricked" the phones when you double updated it. get with the lingo buddy...
@MrFluffyThing I understand. Hopefully the video is not overly compressed like it is on my Evo :( Can't wait to see test videos.
@liquidkernel only the verizon pre can do that for free, probably cause nobody bought it without the free feature, not saying its a bad phone, just has terrible advertising
@liquidkernel Only the Verizon Pre Plus.
@liquidkernel I can't wait to see the videos that I record with it! :P
@okok only Apple Fanboys bought i
Because there are just way too many posts about the iPhone's issues and we needed a break from laughing? Know what's funny, fanboy, that the phone actually works as a .. umm.. phone and that the updates are not once a year with subpar features that are barely catching up to other headsets. Did you know that my old Winmo phone does better multitasking than your shiny new iPhone 4?
@BMills There is Joiku Spot for Symbian with exactly the sam functionality, so iPhone is nothing special. And there is a free version with lets though only HTTP and does not have any WEP or WPA
@liquidkernel What does this video even show? A custom boot logo I hanger that same boot on mine..
@liquidkernel Im going to call bs, this update is conning but I doubt he has it.
@BMills
I don't think anyone cares, corntrollio.
@Son Of a Gun PDANet + pay them for great app=best $20 I ever spent. No need to root incredible (not that I could yet anyway), supporting great app development, and HTTPS access after first 20 days.
@liquidkernel
I just hope that it displays the right number of bars when I hold the lower left hand corner.
@nuclearopts You're thinking of another phone ;)
@Mori
You = douchey troll
@Cam
WRONG. The Pre Pixi Plus also has hotspot capability for free, on Verizon. I know--I almost got one to replace my $60/mo MiFi .
@liquidkernel
A simple meta truth:
If nobody comments on apple news (except for fanbois) and everyone comments the shiznit out of android news (including phandroids), then the apple news would start to become less important to engadget, b/c it garners fewer clicks/comments. And, conversely, we would see more android news, as long as we spam the crap out of it. Is this rigging the game? or seeing it as it really is?
I guess that's up to you.
@liquidkernel I pay $10 a month for Mobile Broadband Connect on my Incredible and I'd gladly continue to fork over that amount for the hot spot.
The DROID Incredible is still one of the best Android devices you can buy right now. Period. Yes, the Evo has a huge screen and a front facing camera, but for performance, Sense UI, VZW Network, and now all of these new features to come out (then in the future, Froyo) - the Incredible still holds up to all of the other phones out there now.
@OCJP Amen brother, I'll pit my D-Inc against ANYTHING out there. It is a pleasure to use and as powerful as any phone out now, or in the near future. Also, in my opinion it is beautifully put together, the perfect size, and future proofed with Froyo coming soon. Also, anybody who says the word plasticky is a douche according to spellcheck.
@Son Of a Gun The incredible is the best android phone on verizon and any network other than the evo, but it does have problems, unlike the iPhone 4 (not the same problems, and less of them, I'm not an idiot fanboy that says all apple products are perfect)
@OCJP co-sign,,,, with the updates, 720p recording and hotspot, i prefer it over the evo, the evo is just to damn big...
In a world that iDoesn't, DROID does!
@Mike Vick
In soviet Russia, Droid calls you!
The Droid Incredible, it is nothing short of its name!
@Mike Vick they should have called it the Evo mini... mini size, mini features, major monthly plan.
@Mike Vick
The shape and form factor of the incredible makes it really attractive. It is definitely a fantastic phone, regardless of all the attention other android phones are getting.
On another note, has anyone noticed that the new card system is somewhat bogus? The HD2 and the BBStorm2 have the same rating (a paltry 5)! The N900 only gets a 6 while the Garminfone gets a 7! What is up with this?!?!?!
@New Reformation I agree. for the size difference between the EVO and the incredible, I'm much more thrilled about the form factor on the incredible. The screen is just the right size for me.
@MrFluffyThing
YES!
720P recording :D
The camera's actually pretty good on the Droid, it's the mic that sucks. Maybe they fixed that with this software update and a higher audio output. Also, Mobile hotspot should be nice. Awesome update to an amazing phone.
@New Reformation The scores are from when they came out not now, and their competition at that time. While the hd2 is a great phone hardware wise, WinMo and no update to WP7 are huge negatives no matter how you slice it
@Son Of a Gun
Since when is 3.7 mini? And mini features? Reaching?
@Son Of a Gun the incredible was first so the eve shoulda been the incredible plus
Looks like the iPhone 4 is gonna have a compeitor when it comes to mobile HD video recording.
@ZackC456 yeah, it's called the N8.
@ZackC456
It already does
The evo, galaxy s (and its many variants), Droid X
Only adds the incredible to the list.
Great phone.
@Son Of a Gun Looks like we have a troll among us.
If you'd ever tried the Incredible, and if you weren't just trolling, you'd change your tune.
@ZackC456 I hope so. Because with the amount of compression on the 720p recording the Evo has, it doesn't really compete strongly. I am hoping someone will come up with a fix.. I love my Evo.
@myingling I'm not trolling, I own the bigger better version, Why drive a 3 series (Incredible) when you own a 7 series (Evo). The Incredible is a nice phone for almost power users, nothing to be ashamed of.
