Droid X available to buy now
Yes, the Droid X has joined the Kin... in being available to buy on Verizon's online Wireless store. No shock or awe here, it's a cent under two Benjamins with a two-year deal and you can give it the shopping basket treatment right now. Either that or wait in line overnight like a lovesick puppy, it's up to you.
[Thanks, Nick]
[Thanks, Nick]

You know my methods, Watson.
@Sherlock Holmes
At least now Verizon has something to compete with the iphone 4 and the Evo
@panckakes
Excellent!
..... in the USA.
@ssguy The T-mobile Vibrant is available too
@panckakes Droid incredible?
*sighs* Okay, Engadget. You're still having fun with the KIN that nobody cares about anymore. We get it. Can we move on to newer jokes?
@Sherlock Holmes
im going to pass on this plastic pos. Windows phone 7 comes out in october.
@MicrosoftOwns
So you're going to substitute one plastic pos for another? Oh right the Droid X isn't plastic.
@aubreyq - God yes, agreed. In fact, I found the snark a bit on the snubby side for the Droid X as if they were equating the two. They ought to be treading more cautiously here given how many people think they're in Apple's pocket.
@Sherlock Holmes
alright, lets see how well this phone sells! Personally im thinking the upcoming droid 2 and Samsung Fascinate will sell better than this thing. Droid 2 has a keyboard (i know i like those) and the Fascinate isnt AS gigantic at least
hey.. phone companies out there....try NOT to make tablet sized phones? kthanks.
"Yes, the Droid X has joined the Kin"
is it me or is engadget implying it will have kin's "success" ?
@Sherlock Holmes
ha
Party in the USA with these phones.
@Sherlock Holmes if alienware made a phone it would look like this
@Dalton Atlas
x2
@Sherlock Holmes
Don't Buy ... if you want to root it or use custom rooms, It's contain eFuse ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EFUSE ) system that will trip if you attempt to change the bootloader, kernel, or ROM , resulting in a permanent bricking of the phone, fix will require a physical access to JTAG port in the motherboard and firing of some unknown-yet commanded to reactivate the eFuse, so only Motorola/Verizon can re activate the eFuse back for now.
@aubreyq
I think Engadget does it on purpose just to laugh at everyone's comments.
@aubreyq can all the people making a HUGE DEAL deal about the iphone antenna move on?
@Sherlock Holmes Sorry, but this is one pug fugly POS. Forget the KIN, this will go the way of the blackberry storm, a hasty attempt by motorola to remain relevant in the year 2010. I hate to be such a Debbie Downer, but I just don't see the big deal with this phone. The first Moto Droid brought the worlds first Android 2.0 phone but this?
@N900androidOS Yeah, to laugh at and mock all the android users from their Apple branded pedestals.
@Sherlock Holmes
WTF!!!! Read further in the comments to see how the hardware is LOCKED!! Purposely bricks the phone if you alter the ROM.
Smart move MOTO. /s I was going to pick up two of these today but I think I'll pass just on principle.
http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/07/14/droid-x-actually-self-destructs-if-you-try-to-mod-it/
Very stupid Moto.
@Michalis
Nah, wouldn't read too much into it. It was just one of the most stupid and least funny jokes I've ever seen. That's all.
@Sherlock Holmes gotta love the first sentance of this article.
@XChrisX I agree with you that its ugly(my opinion still an amazing phone) but this phone is not going to go the way of the storm its going to sell a shit ton and theres no denying that. It maybe ugly but Verizon has great marketing and this phone has great features and in a month or 2 this phone is still going to sell great just like the original Droid did, to think other wise is just all around bullheaded.
@ssguy
It's called eBay dumbass.
Because of the efuse self-destruct bomb, if Motorola comes out with a slow crapped-up BLUR version of Froyo, you are stuck with it.
No thanks. Pissed, cuz I was going to get 2 of these.
Just when Moto was making a come-back, they go and do something stupid like this.
BTW, check out Gizmodo's review of this phone. Summary: "Hated it!"
(I would link but engadget gets pissed)
Maybe Chris' "7" on this phone was more accurate than I thought.
@njbianco96 I don't have it out for Verizon, or Motorola so let's hope these phones sell. I just don't see the big deal here. Sorry for the first post, I just felt like being really over the top haha.
OK BGR is reporting that it MAY not utilize the efuse. The original Droid didn't but apparently the Milestone does. Does the X? Unknown. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/07/15/reality-check-modding-the-droid-x-may-not-lead-to-a-bricked-phone/
(Sorry about being in the first post but I think this issue is important and should be up front. Hopefully engadget will post a dedicated story.)
@XChrisX
lol you applefanboy
droid x is everyway more advanced than iphone
o but the iFail4 pixel density must make it better? lol
"Yes, the Droid X has joined the Kin..."
Engadget, you truly are a bunch of smug Apple / AT&T pumpers.
@panckakes You have heard of the HTC Incredible? Unless of course you were living under a rock. About competing with the iPhone 4.0: Not sure if HTC or Motorola are interested in beating the iPhone's reception issues. I think they would prefer that Apple won that battle? What else?
@aubreyq Yeah...definitely like how they compare the Droid X to the Kin...nice subliminal marketing. Not really fair to the product at all, but thats engadget...
@Ahmed Alzayani
sorry. you are wrong
Motorola, GSM version please :) for the rest of the world...
@Squarerootoftwo
Great minds think alike! :p
@Squarerootoftwo
My thoughts exactly. I've been waiting to upgrade my phone for a year now. Well I do it yearly but so far nothig seems satisfying, maybe this sicne it can make calls!
@Squarerootoftwo
YES, on AT&T please
@Squarerootoftwo
Get a Nexus
Motorola is in Verizon's pocket, and their home country primarily uses CDMA.
I've said it before and will repeat myself until it does happen.
GSM version please. Come on Moto, a whole world awaits!
@ChazClout
THIS.
@ChazClout
No kidding, my Motorola Milestone is really starting to show its age now...
@ChazClout or you know, a CDMA version of the iPhone 4? (after the repairs done for reception issues of course).
@ChazClout I'm not waiting. Couldn't care less about it, when Motorola treats it's customers that way. Even Apple isn't as bad as that. I haven't seen an iPhone with a special device intended to kill it if you jailbreak it. Thank god there is still HTC. I love HTC (says someone who had a Motorola smartphone for 6 years).
@Squarerootoftwo
the only Moto phone showing age is the Droid 1 customised with a seasoned Froyo OS, and its the golden age
Good stuff.
@enaybee Except for the fact that Moto has put some super tight restrictions on this thing making it nearly impossible to hack. We'll be lucky if we ever see root, let alone custom ROMs.
@agreenbhm Exactly, and all signs point to future Motorola phones having the same "problem". Goodbye Motorola hello HTC.
@agreenbhm
It's already been rooted.
