RIM and AT&T event next Tuesday -- BlackBerry slider and OS 6 en route?
Well well, what's this? We just got an invite to a joint RIM / AT&T event next Tuesday, and we'd guess that means we're about to see the official unveiling of the well-leaked BlackBerry 9800 slider with a side dish of BlackBerry OS 6. Either that, or RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis is going to explain how working two-way Gmail sync is a real problem that affects every smartphone and give us a tour of RIM's top-secret email integration labs, but yeah -- we've got our bets on new hardware. We'll obviously be there live covering every detail, so make sure to tune in!

OS 6.0! This is going to be cool!
@iPhone 4 While RIM is certainly still relevant given their market share, their OS is increasingly looking dated compared to the iOS and Android.
@iPhone 4
indeed. Even their updated OS 6 will be their first foray into a true "consumer-oriented" OS. They'll be playing catch-up along with WP7, with essentially their 1.0's going against Apple and Google's 3.0 / 4.0's
@iPhone 4 anyone else notice how this post came 40 mins after the OS6 leak post?
@iPhone 4 Nice, Lets see how Blackberry does!
Meanwhile, the FIRST MEEGO HANDSET IS ABOUT TO LEAK!

@TomSawyer It is hardly their first foray, it is a continuing process to keep moving forward in that direction without neglecting their roots.
Obviously, it is a shame they can't make a big deal about features like folders and multitasking, but then again they have had such advanced features in their os for years already.

Here is a more better link. You can grab the link to a specific tweet by click on the time stamp. Just for future reference...

@Plazmic Flame I didnt post the direct link coz he's gonna tweet as soon as he's done writing the post. So i thought of linking to his profile instead of just one link :)
@statickeith
I see what you did thar, very clever sir
+1
@iPhone 4 Cool? It would make my week if they could pump out a webkit browser for the Bold 9000 :(
I find it PRACTICAL to carry around my 12" Asus Notebook to tether with so I can actually browse the web. Huh, that's an odd concept RIM, a smartphone with a functional web browser, you might be starting to understand.
"... is a real problem that affects every smartphone and give us a tour of RIM's top-secret email integration labs..."
Hey wait a second, this sounds familiar...*wink*
They're just a little too late to the consumer game. If I liked the pre or any other vertical slider I could see myself upgrading to this...
@dkeith95 "If I liked the pre or any other vertical slider I could see myself upgrading to this... "
Vertical sliders are nice for those who prefer something where it's possible to type with one hand/thumb. The extra button space on a horizontal is unnecessary for me.
i'm happy for RIM, but ATT....meh
@inspiron41
Why no love for AT&T? They must be doing something right if everyone wants to partner w/them. Even Microsoft said that AT&T is the preferred carrier of choice for WP7.
@EagleyeSmith No one besides you and 3 people like the ATT :p
@PWRWarTG
I believe a recent Engadget post actually said that AT&T gained more customers last quarter than Verizon (something like 1.8 million to 1.6, I think).
So, it's apparent that someone likes them. It's all a matter of location--I don't have issues with my service here.
@PWRWarTG - Well, I'm a pretty darn satisfied AT&T customer.
@cubs223425
i think you have it the other way around.

.
"Despite the iPhone’s strong gravitational pull, Verizon is managing to attract more new customers than AT&T, the phone’s exclusive American carrier."
@inspiron41 probably worth mentioning that verizon was the only carrier to post losses last quarter, while att posted (i believe) their biggest profit.
@PWRWarTG
Clearly that isn't the case if they're number 2 in subscribers...millions, upon millions don't use your network if they don't like you...just a thought.
OS 6? Apple must be skipping iOS 5 then. I love my new iPhone 4 right now.
@LiQuiDFuSioN
You must have missed the little detail of the missing lower-case 'i' in front of the OS part of RIM OS 6.
Completely different situation.
@LiQuiDFuSioN
Look! A typical iPhone user ;-)
@LiQuiDFuSioN
There are a lot of people enjoying their iPhones, there are a lot of people enjoying their Android phones, there are a lot of people enjoying their BBs, so on and so forth.
Difference is we're not big enough cocks to bring it up at completely irrelevant times.
Who Knows... Maybe (just maybe) They'll Surprise Us All ?
(though I'm not holding my breath)
@bingster ok I don't get why you need to put what comment number are you, and, why do you need to change the spelling of second?
@bingster: No, bingster, the event is August third.
It's nice that the apple and android fanboys can finally come together with their mutual disdain for the blackberry. Awww
@kellidotca Don't forget us Palm fanboys!
(Yes, we still exist)
@Booksmart Devil
If you were to think of it in terms of sports. Palm Fanboy's are like the team that wins a lot and are good year in and year out but you don't hear a lot of arrogance/bloating/press about them like the other teams (Apple, Google, Nokia, etc.)
I've yet to meet a person that has used Palm's OS and not loved it.
(iPhone User)
@EagleyeSmith I love WebOS... One of the best OS's but sad the small company could not market it well enough... Can't wait for WebOs tablets!
@mikmik111
To annoy you. Mission accomplished.
Is this an event for crickets?
@Robhimself This event is going to blow the tivo premiere event OUT OF THE WATER!
I'm hoping that they at least tell us which devices they're going to support..
i dont get how every single phone that came out with a touchscreen for 2 years after the iphone was called a copy cat, but all the vertical sliders that started cropping up after the pre get no such scrutiny.
@FbRider
Maybe because the vertical slider has been around since the Nokia 7650 almost 7 years ago. Just a thought.
the worst phone os and the worst mobile provider. excellent!
Why would anyone partner with AT&T with their Horrible Service?
Prepare for MADDDDD Dropped calls!
@Juggernaut408
You mean "Maaaaaad"
@Juggernaut408
Because AT&T is crazy good at working with corporate customers. Which is also where RIM happens to do most of its sales.
@Juggernaut408 because in Canada RIM has a big contract with Rogers wireless who handles the majority of the corporate customers and fleets. Within RIM all of their employees use Rogers phones and if you haven't noticed the fact that all of RIM's flagship devices are gsm hspa devices on the frequencies Rogers uses. which also happen to be the same as AT&T, as well as Bell and Telus's hspa networks. Thus why both Rogers and AT&T are RIM's flagship device carriers. Rogers has been one of their biggest partners since the founding of the Canadian company.
@Juggernaut408
They partner w/AT&T because they're not as bad as everyone makes them out to be...
@Juggernaut408 fwiw, I've had a 9700 for nearly a year now and I don't think I've ever dropped a call with it. Not at my home or on my trip to Las Vegas this past April.
Bring your sleeping bags. For some reason anything blackberry puts me to sleep.
Hopefully this makes BlackBerry users happy.
Features include left handed calling
@mikmik111
Because you idiots fall for EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Seriously why does it bother you so? Just ignore it and make your own post.
Is it really that difficult? Why does it cause you so much hurt and pain when someone says "first" or "second"? Is it really that big of a deal?
@BrookLynnsFinest
calmer than you are, Dude
