It's fairly safe to say that DMC Worldwide's
Copia e-reader family won't exactly make that estimated Spring 2010 ship date, but a new report over at
The Wall Street Journal is cluing us in on a bit of a revised outlook. As of now, the first Copia suite of e-readers will "hit stores this fall in time for the holiday season," a suite that'll presumably include the 5-inch color (LCD) Wave 5 for $99, a 7-inch Wave 7 for $129, a 10-inch Ocean Color for $299 and a pair of E Ink-based options for $49 (Tidal) / $159 (Tidal WiFi). It doesn't seem as if the two Waves will include any sort of wireless connectivity, and given the LCD display, we're sure that battery life will be nowhere near as good as the marginally-more-expensive
Kindle. That said, the user interface does look rather striking from afar, and if these manage to slip a bit further in price before that magical day in December, you could very well see a rush to stuff stockings with a member of this here family. Give those links below a poke if you're on the prowl for more detailed specifications.
Finally!
@MoonWalkerCTE
Someone let me out of my cage.
@MoonWalkerCTE
I doubt u read the article. It's saying the colored ones are with LCD. U can get color LCDs for a while now, nothing "finally" imo.
@MoonWalkerCTE
This isn't an ereader. My cell phone isn't an ereader. This is just a low featured electronic device.
@MoonWalkerCTE
"...E Ink-based options for $49 (Tidal)..."
$50 for an e-ink based reader? If it's at least 5 inches, I'm sold.
@Zalgo Time for me is nothing cuz I'm counting no age
@Kaboof
Those colour LCD you have just referred to don't have E-ink.
No e-ink --> no e-reader.
No color e-ink --> no color e-reader.
But the 50$ thing seems tempting...
@Kaboof They do have an e-ink reader $50 bucks without wifi $159 bucks with wifi.
@Nn4458 I know, thats why i said the 50$ thing seems interesting. But I think also you cant announce a color-e-reader without color e-ink.
looks quite classy... looks a bit like a nokia smart phone as well...
Wait a while and they will be Free , and they will make profit by selling ebooks
I dunno, 5" is awfully small. Might as well buy that Dell phone/computer. I even thing the small Kindle i too small. I like being able to read a bit without having to page turn or monkey around with buttons every few seconds.

@IEBA1 Agree, 5" is too small for a tablet (and to big for a phone, IMO, for normal use anyway). Needs to get up to about 10" or so to really be useful.
@Dusse Why? 5 inches isn't any smaller than a paperback book page, is it?
$50 for e-ink, even without any wireless connectivity (I tend to load up my ereader before going on a trip anyway) is a pretty phenomenal temptation.
Look, please stop calling normal computer screens E-readers. This is as much an e-reader as my desktop pc, mobile phone, television, and digital watch are.
@sapiens
Those devices you have just mentioned got E-ink?
I don't get it with color "e-readers."
Is every other letter going to be a different color?
Very small screen but a low price is a great selling point
Im sorry but the e-readers name should be kept for e-ink/epaper devices, if it has a lcd or omoled it should be called something else to stop confusion.
@(Unverified) If it has a lcd\amoled it should be called a tablet or e-tablet not e-reader.
$50 for a pocket reader, sounds great...
5-inch color (LCD) Wave 5 for $99,
a 7-inch Wave 7 for $129,
a 10-inch Ocean Color for $299
5 = $99
7(5"+2") = ($99 + 30) = $129
10(7"+3") = ($129 + 170) = $299
How do they justify adding $170 for 3 more inches for $299?
@xombiii
The Screen size is measured diagonally.
10' != 7'+ 3'
It is much more than that.
Ever noticed the vast price difference in TVs for just a few inches? Use the same concept here.
@xombiii
Because you're silly. Also, screen manufacturing costs are rarely scalar. See: televisions, monitors, etc
I'll go with the new amazon kindle. You get better service with Amazon I'm guessing than you do with this company.
For $50 even just a 5" I just might buy one. I don't need 3g or even wifi built in, I have plenty of computers and phones that do that, I just want a small cheap e-reader, to throw in the bag for trips and such. If they made a small kindle without the damn keyboard on it that adds substantially to the size I might buy consider those, but i'm buying it to read, not write.
@borgdog
Of course going to their website it appears that the Tidal is a 6", non-touch with the keyboard and huge bezel, not the most attractive in my opinion, but for $50 meh
@borgdog
And because I can't get it all in one post, I just measured the mass market paperback I am reading, and the page is 8" diagonal, with the text filling a 7" diagonal area. What does that mean? Hard to say, I need to hold one and read on it to see for sure.
The Tidal is $149 without WiFi, not $49 - something Engadget would notice if they actually read their sources and the UberGizmo article. Elementary mistake.
@meeku
Well that just kills the party don't it. Nice catch.
@meeku
I suspected as much. No way they were selling an e-ink device for $49.
This is the great thing about competition . Price, quality and choice.
Meh, lcd screens suck for ebook reading. I tried it and its just no good.
It sucked on the ipad and will suck on this thing too.
The quality of a good ebook reader with e-ink is just *that* much better.
