Two Bosses Enter: Lord Godfrey vs. Scourgelord Tyrannus!

In Two Bosses Enter, WoW Insider's series of fantasy death matches, the bosses of World of Warcraft face off in the squared circle. Your vote determines who wins and claims the season title.

Welcome to week two of this season of Two Bosses Enter! This week we reveal the first of four wild card competitors -- when it comes to the wild cards, anything goes. We broke the Cataclysm boss mold to bring back old favorites ... or something else entirely!

Lord Godfrey will be put up against wild card numero uno, Scourgelord Tyrannus, winner of Wrath of the Lich King's Trial of the Crusader/Frozen Halls season of Two Bosses Enter. Can Tyrannus capitalize on this comeback? Can he go toe-to-toe with the bosses of Cataclysm? Does he still have what it takes to compete?

The rules of the ring

  • The WoW Insider Ring is considered neutral territory, where both combatants are able to access their usual encounter mechanics and abilities. If you can't visualize it inside the squared circle, visualize it someplace else -- but you must take into consideration all of each bosses' abilities and mechanics.

  • Assume that each opponent is intelligent and capable of strategic thinking.

  • All of the competitors' abilities, including crowd control and other effects to which bosses are usually immune, work on their opponents (with apologies to considerations of lore on this point).

  • Assume that the opponents share similar levels, health pools, and comparative overall damage output.

  • Don't get caught up in gameplay mechanics and what actual players might do in each encounter.

  • Don't neglect style, story, and scale. Everything is a factor; seeking balance is your goal as a spectator and judge.

In Corner One: Lord Godfrey

Murder never gets old.

How many men can claim they've killed the Banshee Queen? Not Sylvanas the mortal ranger, but the Banshee Queen, the undead monarch of the Forsaken, one of the most powerful beings across both the Alliance and the Horde? Just one man managed to do what the Lich King could not: Lord Vincent Godfrey. With Sylvanas sitting at the top of his kill list, can Scourgelord Tyrannus truly prove to be a threat? Besides, he dual wields pistols. How cool is that?

Godfrey's bag of murderous tricks includes ...

If you've never been unfortunate enough to cross Lord Godfrey, you may want to learn about his background or read adventurers' first-hand accounts of his murderocity. It's a word. Look it up.

I lied. It's not a word.

In Corner Two: Scourgelord Tyrannus

You are better off dead!

Scourgelord Tyrannus's death in the Pit of Saron was merely a setback. His sweep of the previous season of Two Bosses Enter proves that he was one tough cookie with some serious staying power. Keep in mind that both the Faction Champions and the Lich King himself participated in that tournament -- it was not easy competition. Can Tyrannus and his pet dragon defeat that which Sylvanas could not?

Scourgelord Tyrannus is packing some serious heat ...

And that's not all! His pet frost wyrm Rimefang is a stone cold killer, too ...

If you were the cowardly sort in Wrath of the Lich King and stayed in the mountains, far away from Tyrannus, you might want to learn more about him and his style of combat.

Last Week's Winner: Ozruk

Ozruk beat Asaad so brutally last week that the djinn's entire family line has been shamed for all time, hither and thither throughout the continuum. Ozruk took just about 80% of the vote, which is likely as close to a flawless victory as we'll see throughout this tournament.

Our first comment last week summed up the matchup quite well for most of our readers. Natsumi said ...

Obviously Ozruk wins, everyone knows that Ground Types are Immune to Electric types.

However, Hal saw things quite differently ...

Ugh, you people and your pokeymans. Dag-gum kids.

In a more traditional elemental arrangement: Water > Fire > Earth > Wind > Water

Earth vs. Wind ... Earth wins.

No matter which way you look at it, Ozruk comes out on top. Readers are already predicting a clean sweep for Ozruk in this season of Two Bosses Enter, but it may be too early to make that call. Could Tyrannus weather Ozruk's body should he advance to the next round? Could Godfrey?

The battle begins!

Remember, Two Bosses Enter matchups are all about substance and style, not gameplay, mechanics, and numbers. Don't base your strategies on player tactics, which opponent has been easiest or most difficult for you personally, or the difficulty of each opponent relative to instance progression. Vote for the spirit of the battle as set forth above. Set aside differences in opponents' health pools, game level, and actual damage output. Absolutely no game mechanics nitpicking!

Oh, and by the way? Bonus points to anybody who fills out their season predictions in our ladder.
