Dear Aunt TUAW: Should I wait for the next MacBook Air?

Dear Aunt TUAW,

My entire machine is just dog slow lately. I want an MBA sooooo bad. But I'm waiting for Thunderbolt *sigh*. Why can't Apple hurry up and ship those babies?

Help a nephew out. What should I do?

Love & kissies

Your nephew "V".

Dear "V",

Auntie's rule is this: Never wait for new technology unless you're absolutely sure it's time for a refresh. If you need to get work done now, buy now.

Tomorrow's tech will always be better, and there's always going to be something coming down the line even better than that. So seize the day. Buy workable-and-adequate immediately instead of waiting for future-perfect.

Nearly any equipment you get at Apple these days, including refurb models of slighty older units, will rock your socks. And if you're worried about your ideal model shipping six months from now, remember That's Why God Gave Us eBay.

So go ahead and bite the bullet. Pick up the MacBook Air of your dreams now and upgrade when it makes sense. Auntie does highly recommend that you go with a refurb unit, especially when you know you're buying for the short term.

Meanwhile, remember that perfection is the enemy of good, and Apple is never going to spill its guts about forward-looking product releases.

Hugs,

Auntie T.
