Breakfast Topic: Give me your best mount

This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.

In a "recent" episode of BlizzCast (at the 1:46:31 mark, to be exact), Ghostcrawler said it's "getting kind of hard" to come up with new mounts to add to our little game. As you look at all the mounts that are already in game, it's pretty easy to see the wide variety of mounts we already have. Everything from a motorcycle to a chicken rooster could be yours with a little luck, gold and time.

Even after the initial concept of a new mount has been conceived, coming up with the concept art and animation is an entirely separate ordeal. This is where practicality meets desire. Players want more mounts; more mounts means man-hours not spent on other content. But what if there were a middle ground?

Imagine, if you will, a future patch in which you can pick out your mount from the creatures that already exist in game, like the hunters do with their pets. As far as the technical side is concerned, we already have programming in place that can differentiate between tameable and non-tameable mobs, so couldn't we have the same deal with rideable and non-rideable? I don't even need separate models with saddles -- I'll ride bareback! Maybe they won't count toward achievements, sure. And certain special mounts -- i.e., 5-man or raid achievement mounts -- would only be attainable for those who have completed their respective requirements. This will make sure those who have clearly risen above the unwashed masses will still have the mounts to show for it.

Given that this is highly unlikely, I can still dream. And in my dreams, I would go out and break a nice wind serpent. What about you? What creature, currently in-game, would you like to ride into that beautiful Nagraand sunset?
