Eton anticipates next natural disaster with self-powered FRX radios

Eton, the name behind solar-powered sound systems and emergency radios, is updating its disaster-preparedness portfolio with the new FRX series of self-powered radios. The FRX 1, FRX 2 and FRX 3 use hand-turbine energy to keep the internal lithium ion battery juiced, and all include a glow-in-the-dark indicator, LED flashlight and DC input. While the FRX 1 offers only the basic components, the FRX 2 and 3 have solar panels for recharging, along with a headphone jack and a USB port for powering other gadgets. The FRX 3 boasts a digital alarm and radio -- as opposed to the analog radio on the FRX 2 -- and a display for receiving NOAA weather alerts. Eton priced the radios at $25, $40 and $60, respectively, and it's currently selling the three options with American Red Cross co-branding at outlets such as Amazon, Best Buy and REI. Etón Corporation Announces FRX Series of Safety Radios Now Shipping

Self-powered radio line charges mobile devices and provides the essentials of light, information and energy for life's unexpected situations

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Etón Corporation, a leading creator of high-performance, green-powered consumer products, announces the purchase availability of the FRX Series of safety radios. The three new self-powered radios in the collection each provide unique benefits to help stay prepared during instances of severe weather and other unexpected situations.

"At Etón, we strive to create products that cause consumers to think about preparedness before they are faced with a disaster"
Each radio in the FRX Series is self-powered, utilizing hand-turbine energy to re-charge the internal Ni-MH lithium ion battery. The hand-turbine was re-engineered to be more efficient, with less cranking yielding more power. The aesthetics of each radio is in line with all of Etón's product collections, reflecting a sleek and contemporary design. Elements like a new glow in the dark feature provide added convenience.

Leading the FRX Series is the FRX 3, featuring an AM/FM/WB digital radio and display with NOAA weather alert. With both a solar panel and hand turbine for recharging – the device ensures you always have power when you need it most. The FRX 3 features direct power transfer technology, allowing the internal battery to charge other mobile devices when they are connected via the integrated USB port. Other features include a bright LED flashlight, glow-in-the-dark indicator for easy location, AC and DC input, headphone jack and digital alarm.

The second product in the line, the FRX 2, boasts an AM/FM/WB analog radio and both a solar panel and hand-turbine for re-charging the internal battery. The direct power transfer technology is also found in the FRX 2, charging other mobile devices when connected via the USB port. Other features include an LED flashlight, glow-in-the-dark indicator, DC input and headphone jack.

The most compact radio in the series, the FRX 1, utilizes the power of a hand-turbine for re-charging the internal battery and also houses an LED flashlight. Other features include a glow-in-the-dark indicator and DC input, offering the essential components in a small device.

"At Etón, we strive to create products that cause consumers to think about preparedness before they are faced with a disaster," said Esmail Amid-Hozour, CEO of Etón Corporation. "Thus far in 2012, we've already seen severe weather hit much of the country - it's our goal to reach as many households as we can with our message of empowerment by safety and preparedness."

Continuing its long-standing partnership with the American Red Cross, the products in the FRX Series are also available in an exclusive co-branded line with the charitable organization. The co-branded version of the FRX Series reflects the American Red Cross logo and a portion of each sale goes towards the organization. The Etón and American Red Cross by Etón FRX Series are now available for MSRP $25 (FRX 1), $40 (FRX 2) and $60 (FRX 3) in color options of red or black at Best Buy, REI, Fry's Electronics, Amazon.com, Eddie Bauer, Eastern Mountain Sports, Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops.
