Transmog into the Masters of the Universe
Some of my fondest childhood memories involve plunking myself down along with my brother and sister and happily watching a few hours of incredibly cheesy cartoon shows. I grew up with classics like Thundercats, He-Man, Transformers and many more. While these days those old cartoons seem incredibly outdated and more than a little silly, for me and my siblings, they were amazing feats of animation that sparked our imaginations and creativity.
Not so coincidentally, imagination and creativity are two things that work incredibly well with transmogrification. After delving into the world of comic book superheroes, I decided to try my hand at recreating some of the looks worn by the heroes and villains of those beloved old cartoon shows. After all, there's already a version of He-Man and Skeletor in game.
Although Adam Eternum and Keldor the Lost look spot-on in game, they're wearing combinations of different armor types -- something that doesn't work for transmogrification, unfortunately. But a little mixing and matching goes a long way toward creating decent enough looks that will have you evoking the power of Grayskull in no time flat.
He-Man
The single biggest downer about this set is that the loincloth isn't brown. This is because there is only one brown loincloth in game, and it's cloth. However, the iconic harness that He-Man runs around in is pretty much required for this look, so we've gone with a leather loincloth in an alternate color.
Head No helm needed -- go ahead and turn that graphic off!
Shoulders He-Man doesn't ordinarily wear spaulders, but for the purposes of transmogrification, we have to have a pair. I've gone with the Wanderer's Shoulders here, just because they go with the rest of the outfit.
Back No cloak needed. Go ahead and turn that graphic off, too.
Chest This is the Sentinel Breastplate, a level 35 random green. Please note that it looks very, very different on male characters than on females.
Wrists While He-Man ordinarily wears gold bracers, there aren't really any good leather options for that color. Instead, I've gone with the Wanderer's Bracers, which fit it with the look.
Hands He-Man doesn't wear gloves, so we want the least obtrusive gloves we can find. Find a leatherworker and have them whip up a pair of Dark Leather Gloves for you, which work suitably well.
Waist This is the Headhunter's Belt, which is pretty much your best gold belt option.
Legs He-Man's loincloth is a set of Warbear Woolies, which can be crafted by a leatherworker.
Feet For the feet, we're going back to the Wanderer's set and picking up a pair of Wanderer's Boots.
Sword While there isn't an exact match to the unique model that He-Man carries around, the Sword of Zeal is a pretty good option for a one-handed weapon.
Teela
You think He-Man was difficult? Far more so is his friend Teela, daughter of Man-At-Arms and member of the Royal Guard assigned to watch over Prince Adam. Teela's unique outfit is impossible to replicate in game, but we can make a good show of coming close with the outfit below.
Head Teela's got an incredibly unique crown. Since there is no match for it, look for the Glorious Headdress, which gives a pretty good crown look.
Shoulders Teela doesn't wear spaulders at all. However, Teela's got a really unique top with a very high gold collar. With the Glorious Shoulder Pads, we can mimic the sweeping
arch of the collar without actually trying to reproduce it.
Back Teela doesn't wear a cloak, so you can turn that graphic off.
Chest Teela's bizzare costume is basically a white leotard with gold overlay. To mimic this, we're going to layer a gold top over a white shirt. This is the Glorious Breastplate, which is one of the more revealing chestpieces in the game -- however, it's a little more modest when paired with a shirt.
Shirt This is the White Swashbuckler's Shirt, which can be crafted by a tailor for you. You'll notice it's a belly shirt, which doesn't really work with the leotard look. This is because every shirt on a female character cuts off above the point that legplates start. With the White Swashbuckler's Shirt, at least that cutoff is a natural looking one instead of an odd, unfinished line.
Wrists Bracers don't really show, so there's no need to transmogrify them.
Hands Whoops! I forgot to put the gloves on in the graphic shown here. Look for the Glorious Gauntlets -- the gold goes well with the entire outfit.
Waist For the belt, head to AQ-40 and murder the bug trio to grab a Triad Belt.
Legs This is it, the holy grail of transmog plate. The Cloudkeeper Legplates are the only pair of plate legs that almost resemble a white skirt. They are also incredibly rare -- found on trash mobs in Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, and Ahn'Qiraj. If you're lucky, you can find a pair on the Auction House; if not, you may be farming for quite some time for these.
Feet For boots, look for the gorgeous gold Glorious Sabatons.
Sword Teela is a warrior. She carries a sword and a shield. This particular model is the Lord General's Sword, which drops off of General Angerforge in Blackrock Depths.
Shield For the shield, you can use just about any basic round model. While it's not really Teela's shield, I've always liked the look of the Draconian Deflector, and I think it goes really nicely with this particular set. You can pick it up from General Drakkisath in upper Blackrock Spire.
Skeletor
Skeletor's another one of those difficult-to-transmog characters, largely because the hood and shoulders here are cloth. There aren't any cloth harnesses suitable for use with this outfit, so we've gone with a mimic vest instead. Obviously this set works very, very well if you're playing an undead character. If you're living ... not so much.
Head Look for the Consortium Hood for this particular set.
Shoulders The Opulent Mantle goes very well with both the hood and the cape for this set, tying the two together nicely.
Back Ask your local leatherworker to put together a Dark Leather Cloak for you.
Chest Since we cannot find a harness in cloth, I've gone with the Barbaric Cloth Vest for this set.
Wrists Vindicator Bracers go very well with the rest of this outfit.
Hands For gloves, go ahead and find a pair of Barbaric Cloth Gloves to match.
Waist The Belt of Unified Souls matches this set perfectly. You can find it on Meathook in the Culling of Stratholme on heroic mode.
Legs Another loincloth! This one is the Barbaric Loincloth, which is basically a pair of glorified purple underwear.
Feet These are the Vicious Fireweave Boots, which you can have your local tailor whip up for you.
Staff Skeletor's got a really unique staff, and luckily there is an exact match to it in game already. Look for The Bringer of Death, a random blue BoE staff -- or if you're feeling like punishing yourself, you can farm Darkmaster Gandling in Scholomance and try to nab a Headmaster's Charge, which uses the same model.
Orko
This is hands-down the easiest character to transmogrify ever, largely because Blizzard happily created a set that is nearly an exact match for Orko's look. As a bonus, you can even buy all the pieces, with the exception of gloves and boots, with justice points.
Head The red helm is the Cowl of Pleasant Gloom.
Shoulders For shoulders, nab the Meadow Mantle.
Chest For the robe, you'll want to pick up the Robes of Embalmed Darkness.
Wrists Your bracers don't really matter here, because they'll be covered with gloves.
Hands For gloves, I looked for a blue pair just because Orko has blue hands. You can get Tempest's Touch from the quest Escape from Durnholde -- all dungeon quests in Outland were reset with Cataclysm, so you can go back and do the quest again now if you did it while it was current content.
Waist Pick up the Incense Infused Cummerbund.
Legs What are you looking for legs for? You're wearing a robe -- don't worry about changing whatever legs you've got on.
Feet Orko doesn't actually have any visible feet. Obviously we can't get rid of the feet on your character, but we can outfit them in black so that they aren't as noticeable. Pick up a pair of Sorcerer Slippers, and you're good to go.
Obviously, Orko's look works best on either a goblin or a gnome. Taller races may look nice in the set, but the overall look won't really scream He-Man's companion.
Azeroth may not be Eternia, but with the creative use of a little transmogrification, you can get the look of your old-school cartoon favorites. Remember, just because you can't find an exact match to an outfit doesn't mean you should give up -- using creative substitutions can give the overall look, even if it's not the most precise.
