Previously on MV TV: The week of September 8th

It's starting to cool down outside, at least here in Texas. Trust me, I know how strange that sounds, but the temperature during the middle of the day is moving up as usual and the mornings and evenings are pure bliss. If it's cold where you are now, settle down with a cup of coffee and take that newspaper and throw it in the trash! Who needs to read? Follow the magic links down below, and not only will you get the news, but it will be delivered in a completely non-newsy form: video game streams!

Let's break down the top stories for this week. First, we'll be joined by the Pigster as he takes us on a tour of Spiral Knight's planet. Richie is still stuck in Guild Wars 2, but trooper that he is, he continues to file reports from the front lines. How brave! MJ returns this week with a recipe for Gnoll burritos from EverQuest II, a newbie tour through the character mines of Guild Wars 2, a quickie glimpse of the floating islands of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, and an avocado dip recipe given to her by the pirates of Aion. I finish off by travelling back in time to a game called There, a title that kept me up for ages when I was younger.

Spiral Knights is the tiny, cute, yet finger-breakingly tough game that Psykopig conquers this episode. He manages to finish the tutorial and a few missions with ease, but he accidentally ends up in a dungeon! The dungeon is the larger part of the cast, but it gives an awesome view of what this tiny free-to-play MMO can do. Tune in to check it out!

If running around as a Warrior in Guild Wars 2 isn't exciting enough, imagine clobbering foes as a Norn disguised as a robot. Throw in some pirates, dinosaurs, and sharks with laser beams attached to their heads and you have the makings of an amazing livestream show hosted by Richie! Too bad, you'll just have to settle for the Norn robot part. The rest was a cunning lie. OK, maybe not so cunning. It was just a lie. But watch the show anyway!

During this show, Richie proved that it's not what you know; it's whom you know. Eliciting the help of one of his friends and a livestream viewer, he tore up Lornar's Pass in Guild Wars 2. Together they slaughtered dangerous enemies such as dredge, alpine minotaurs, and griffons... and some not-so-dangerous bunnies that just happened to be in the way. They also made some major discoveries by locating the Durmand Priory's snowy headquarters and uncovered a new race of mechanical steam creatures. Richie also flexes his obscure Dungeons and Dragons trivia muscle, which sends his geek street cred score into the stratosphere. This show is jam-packed, so don't miss it.

She's BACK! After more than a week's absence, MJ jumped right back into gaming. It should have been a piece of cake, right? *bursts into laughter* Watch as MJ goes about the business of gaining the trust of the Gnolls while forgetting a few fundamentals of doing so with an audience, like paying attention to the boss while chatting it up with folks. Oh, those low levels can still pack a whollup!

Sylvari or Asura, Sylvari or Asura? Sylvari won the Thrall toss, so this week MJ jumped back into the leafy lands to continue exploring Guild Wars 2 as possibly the newbiest of newbs! Between hunting those random events and getting to shoot lightning and fire everywhere, could it be that she is getting sucked into the game? Can the Elementalist make a fan out of her yet? Check it out and decide for yourself.

In the battle of MJ vs. the level 10 dungeon, the dungeon pulled a sneaky trick and won by keeping the door locked. But that sure didn't help all the little elemental bosses on the other islands; Dominatrix-head hunting should be considered an official sport! All told, perhaps not getting inside was even a blessing this time around, as MJ found some spectacular views way up on these floating islands you just have to see to believe.

You just can't go wrong with pirates, and Steel Rake had plenty of them. MJ and group ventured onto the ship dispensing justice to those shifty fuzzy foes. What's better than a good ship slaughter? Why, being shot out of a cannon, of course!

I finish off this week by revisiting one of my old haunts, a social game called There. Before I played Second Life in 2004, I ran through the jungles and boogied the nights away in this interesting world. I spent many, many hours on voice chat talking politics, art, religion, and music with a group of friends and my wife. It not only formed my appreciation for a good social MMO but encouraged my explorer side. The game quietly returned this year, so you can only imagine my excitement when I was able to resurrect not only my old character but all of the stuff he had on him as well!
