WRUP: I wish I didn't have to know how to quit you edition

What never was.
I don't even know where to start with the big news from Friday. A game that's formed a huge portion of my professional career over the past three years is leaving, and... I don't know how to react to that. I know you usually expect WRUP headers to have some nonsense about cats forming an international coalition, but right now I just don't have it in me.

The maudlin train stops there, I promise. You can tune in next week for what will doubtlessly be more of the same. Right now, it's time to talk about what the Massively staff will be up to over the weekend. We're also sharing our impressions of that game that launched on Tuesday. You might have heard about it here or there. So jump on past the break to see our plans for the weekend and let us know what you'll be up to in the comments.

Beau Hindman, F2P and Mobile Columnist
@Beau_Hindman: I will be checking out Knight Age, a new MMO being published by Joymax. I've already downloaded it and made my first character. It's so adorable that my teeth ached after I played. I'll be livestreaming the game on Monday at 5:00 p.m. EDT. I'm also trying to catch up on some older titles this weekend and will hope to have a list of them to stream. I might start up a sub to The Secret World as well, especially because it's finally settling down and I never really gave it much of a chance. I might even have to look into buying a new PC soon. Ironically, the purchase is needed to livestream games and to play games that I normally would not. Ah, it's a tough life.

I'll reserve my opinions on Guild Wars 2 until I have played it for more than an hour. My wife has played it much more than me and I literally sit next to her and watch, but the lack of joy I got from that small amount of exposure can possibly be washed away by the most amazing MMO experience ever. Who knows? Then again, it might be a horrible time. I'll know soon enough.

Bree Royce, Managing Editor
@nbrianna: I'll be in Guild Wars 2. I'm having a really great time, even better than I expected...

... but I've kinda had it with the launch issues that linger on, especially the trading post and forum outage, which will hopefully be fixed by the time you read this. That said, the game is much more enjoyable even with its flaws than most games at launch and some games many years later. I look forward to watching it develop.

Love you, CoH.

@Eliot_Lefebvre: Friday's news means I'm going to need to get some time in City of Heroes in addition to the various projects I've got running in Star Wars: The Old Republic. I also want to make use of the long weekend to spend more time with Guild Wars 2. Also enjoying offline games with my new computer. It's very large.

My first experience with GW2 in the beta was profoundly meh, but I think that was more a matter of the character and the time I played rather than the game itself. It's definitely fun, and there's a great game there, but I haven't found it hooking me in just yet. That'll probably happen once my Thief gets a few more levels under her belt.

Elisabeth Cardy, Guild Wars 2 Columnist and Contributing Editor
@elixabethclaire: I'm playing PAX this weekend.

So far, Guild Wars 2 is matching my expectations very well. I know a lot of people have been plagued with technical difficulties, but the only one that's really impacted my gametime much is the trading post being down, and either way I tend to not view the technical difficulties of any game at launch as definitive of the experience. I am enjoying myself.

Jef Reahard, Senior Editor and Columnist Extraordinaire
I'm still playing The Secret World and Skyrim and dabbling in Guild Wars 2.

There's a lot to like about GW2, and I see myself playing it for far longer than I originally intended (depending on ArcheAge's launch schedule, of course). I was dreading yet another fantasy world, but the key word there is world, as in, it feels like one as opposed to a combat lobby.

Jeremy Stratton, Contributing Editor
@Jeremy_Stratton: For all the pessimistic posts and downplaying I've done, I'm quite happy with Guild Wars 2, and it's what I'll be playing over the weekend. It's what I've been playing since launch.

While it does feel like a strange new world that I still want to be cautiously reserved about, I am loving what no one seems to really be honing in on: the incidentals. GW2 is a terrific example of how attention to the little things creates the big things. Some might let emotes, the way a character idles, or other incidentals go by as being less important, but that's largely what is making GW2 an incredible experience for me -- that, and the discovery window in the crafting interface. It's so fun discovering recipes.

@Sypster: I'll be playing Garage Sale Lackey, so actual gaming may come in a distant second.

As for Guild Wars 2, I think it's a barely adequate attempt at an MMO, and ArenaNet needs to take it back to the drawing... oh, whom am I kidding? It is sublime. I highly recommend it if you like good games, period.

Terilynn Shull, Star Trek Online Columnist
@terilynns: Once again I will be jumping into Star Trek Online and working with my very new character, a male Andorian tactician. He's been a great reminder to me about what it is that I love most about the game and that's the progression of story. I will likely also dabble in a bit of Lord of the Rings Online as well. I'm still trying desperately to kill three more Gaunts and their stupid summoned-dead-pet-things.

Since I haven't played GW2 (ducks from numerous items thrown at me), I can't opine as to its quality.

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
