WRUP: Fine points of bear worship edition

Ms. Lady and I have devoted a great deal of thought to bears ever since her druid shifted into one.

Anyone who has met me in person knows that I have a vested interest in bears. As a result, I have to say that anyone in a game or out of it worshipping a bear as a fierce and deadly warrior clearly has not grasped what bears represent. Yes, they certainly can be killing machines, but more often they're enormous snurfling piles of fur and fat looking for something sweet. Understand that if the bear is your god, your god's primary interest is finding a beehive and then falling asleep for a week.

Not to say this isn't cool. But it's not quite the proud anchor you want for a warrior culture.

Much like a beehive, the weekend contains the sweet honey of free time for many of us, and that's why it's time for another installment of WRUP. Check on past the break to see what the Massively staff has planned for the weekend, and let us know in the comments what you'll be up to for the next two days!

Brendan Drain, EVE Columnist and Contributing Editor

@nyphur: I'll be playing EVE Online, followed by EVE Online and a little bit of EVE Online. Retribution has completely revamped the game, there's combat happening everywhere and so many new mechanics and updated ships to figure out. I've been looking forward to the PvP revamp for a long time, and now that it's finally here, I have a few dodgy pirate characters to reactivate!

Bree Royce, Editor-in-Chief

@nbrianna: I just got a Nexus 7 tablet, so I think it's going to be a weekend of mucking around in mobile MMOs; Arcane Legends is at the top of my list. I might tinker with Skyrim mods a bit, and I'll probably be in Glitch for the sunset this weekend if I can handle two closures back to back (I'm "Taboo" there if anyone wants to hunt me down). Beyond that, I think I need to let my heart heal a bit before I jump back into another big MMO.

David Desi, Multimedia Contributor

@PsykopigAU: I'll be attending FragFest this week for 12 hours of mayhem gaming! I'm counting my lucky stars that I am now well enough to attend. Other than that, my Sunday will likely be filled with some Torchlight II with a bunch of friends. Game on!

Eliot Lefebvre, Columnist Extraordinaire and Senior Contributing Editor

@Eliot_Lefebvre: I'm still playing Star Wars: The Old Republic and using Guild Wars 2 to plug the hole left by Final Fantasy XIV. (Success is mixed.) I also finally got over my issues with the Humble Bundle this year, since it's all THQ rather than a bunch of tiny indie developers, and as a result I have a pile of games that I haven't tried before. Also, it seems I've got some Champions Online to play.

Elisabeth Cardy, Guild Wars 2 Columnist and Contributing Editor

@elixabethclaire: I have no idea what I'll be playing! I'm trying to find a happy balance of Guild Wars 2, Torchlight II, and Aion, but I may end up sitting in a corner playing pat-a-cake with a wall all weekend. If I do play Aion, I'll be dividing my time between a new character and my mid-level Gladiator or Chanter.

Justin Olivetti, Columnist Extraordinaire and Senior Contributing Editor

@Sypster: I've had an interesting return to Star Trek Online this past week. I was initially tempted by the holiday event, although once I got in game I realized that it would be too grindy and boring to keep my attention. However, I did pick up the last mission I was playing months ago and found that I wanted to find out what happened. So I think I'll keep tinkering around in the game for now.

Other than that, I'm testing out a couple of new builds in RIFT and exploring life as a newly minted level 80 in Guild Wars 2.

Mike Foster, Contributing Editor

@MikedotFoster: Halo 4. Finally. I also have a couple of ships to fit in EVE Online and will likely play some Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour with my bestie -- it's our old standby. Beyond that, who knows? Maybe I'll finally finish Torchlight II now that Time has named it one of the best of the year.

MJ Guthrie, Aion and Sandbox Columnist and Contributing Editor

@MJ_Guthrie: PlanetSide 2 has announced double XP this weekend, and I definitely plan on taking advantage of that! I also want to get back into The Hexway in Aion to see if I can manage to get to more boxes (or at least nab one bit of loot, since I missed out one any in the stream run). Of course, I'll be poking in The Secret World as well; I'd really like to get my Lumie some more skills.

Patrick Mackey, League of Legends Columnist

@mackeypb: I'm going to be playing more League of Legends and probably won't be playing much else until the second Age of Wushu closed beta opens up. As with last week, I'm still mostly playing Diana while I pine for Age of Wushu. My friends have had dreams about the game, and I've been watching wuxia films in order to fill the void. It can't come back online soon enough!

Richie Procopio, Multimedia Contributor

@RichieProcopio: This weekend, I'll be knocking out my monthly achievements in Guild Wars 2. I have to run the Fractals of the Mists dungeon and beat Elisabeth's server in World vs. World! With those tasks out of the way, I can look forward to the new Wintersday content coming on December 14.

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
