Random Acts of Uberness: A renaissance of kindness

Is the Siege of Orgrimmar turning into a war on meanies? Is World of Warcraft undergoing a renaissance of kindness and cooperation? We have a nice, fat installment of Random Acts of Uberness today, much of it seemingly inspired by the spirit of cooperation as we all stretch our wings in new patch content.

"Since I came back just less than a month ago for the most part people have been fairly nice," commented Bob2525 in last week's column. "The rares in particular have been great sources of kindness. That's not to say everything has been roses but overall the kindness level has risen since the last time I played."

Ron2 concurred: "In the last two weeks, I've seen a lot more positivity in raid finder. I've seen people thanking the guy who set out a feast, telling the tanks and healers that they did a good job, and occasionally telling jokes in between bosses. Not everybody is that way, of course, but it only takes one or two nice people to change the raid environment."

So who's been exceptionally uber to fellow players this week?

Caught being uber: Demonblood, Feathermoon (US-Alliance) I usually play WoW on the late hours when not many others are on. Last Sunday night I was on my night elf hunter from Feathermoon and doing some Shieldwall dailies. I was in the caves killing spirits and bumped into a night elf DK named Demonblood. We proceeded to group up to get the lieutenants down together. After we finished, she turned into a dragon and asked if I needed a ride anywhere.

She was so friendly and offers to hang out and help me for a while. She helps me knock out the Shado-Pan dailies real quick and we proceeded on to Timeless Isle.

She spent a good five hours taking me all around the isle in her chopper while she helped me gather coins, hidden chests, kill rares and keep us walking on water to chase down Evermaw and even doing suicide aggro runs so I could sneak in to gather goodies from the big chests. She played with me into the early dark hours of Monday morning, showing me every little thing I could do on the Isle to be a good earner and gear up.

She was so UBER!! I have no way of paying her back for her time and offered to at least pay for her repairs. She was so humble and friendly simply saying it wasn't necessary and to be mindful of others and just pay it forward when I can.

Caught being uber: Realnest, Moon Guard (US-Alliance) Let's get things straight. I can't stand warlocks. I hate them in lore, I hate them in game mechanics, I even hate most people who play warlocks (they're always just plain mean for some reason) -- but this particular warlock made my night.

I was up in the Brawlers Guild (or is it down?) working on my ranking when I first noticed this warlock, plowing through the fights like it was nothing, thinking him to be an elitist jerk (heh). Then I noticed he was cheering on other brawlers in his downtime, even shouting tips at people mid-fight and rezzing the fallen. This guy could be like most warlocks I know,shouting obscenities and otherwise badmouthing "noobs," but this guy was doing everything in his power to help them. He even started a raid group to pass out his Healthstones and give better advice to players, eventually getting nine to 10 people together so we were all buffed as we did our matches. This guy made my night. It was probably the most fun and encouraging night in the Brawlers Guild I ever had.

So this is a shout-out to you, Realnest! Keep being awesome! Who knows? I might even start liking warlocks ... -- Tarismiken, Moon Guard (US-Alliance)

Caught being uber: Pallisaurus, Sinage, and Taurn, Wyrmrest Accord (US-Horde) I've avoided dungeons for a while, and my experiences with the dungeon finder have not been great this expansion. But I met three incredibly cool guys who have made me reconsider my personal ban on LFD. I got the noodle cart quest on the first day of the Timeless Isle, but I got as far as the first dungeon quest and stopped. Last night, I finally decided to bite the bullet and go. I queued for a normal run instead of a heroic, crossed my fingers, and jumped in.

The run was incredibly smooth and fast, but when we killed the final boss, Pallisaurus, Sinage, and Taurn from The Horde Clan on Wyrmrest Accord stayed and helped me kill the noodle cart guy. We even wiped once! As it turns out -- none of them had the quest or any reason to be there; after the kill, they explained that they stayed because they wanted to help me out. I am truly humbled by their incredible kindness and generosity. -- Professor Plagueworm, Hyjal (US-Horde)

Caught being uber: Rax and Kelidora, Aman'Thul (US-Alliance) My mixed-guild group decided to hit up SoO's LFR part one the day it released. We waited 'til our raid leader got home from work, so about 16 to 18 of us entered LFR together fairly late in the evening -- all ranges of capability and gearing. This isn't usual for us, but people were really pumped up by Timeless Isle and the idea of prepping for our first flex raid that coming weekend.

Once in the LFR, we met Rax and Kelidora from the guild Just Go With It on Aman'Thul (US). They explained the fights, having been in the instance earlier. We one-shot the first two bosses, though Fallen Defenders came close.

Rax took the time to whisper praise, thanks, and encouragement to the healers, which really raised our raid leader's eyebrows. In the end, most of the team ended up sharing battletags with these two (I haven't yet, though I still have the info saved).

This great experience in LFR really assured some of our folks who had previously been scared off by LFR horror stories and the people who are nervous to raid at all and were worried about the upcoming Flex raid. Rax and Kelidora really helped out some of our folks.

Caught being uber: Lathel, Zul'jin (US-Horde) A couple days ago, I finally completed my multi-day farm of Garnia and got a Ruby Droplet to drop. As none of my friends or guildies were on, I cheered out about it into general. Almost everyone ignored me, but one person, Lathel, gave me a grats.

I figured that would be it, but a moment later, she whispered me and asked if, as I was collecting pets, I needed the Azure Crane Chick as she'd been lucky enough to loot three. I responded that that would be awesome, since I'd clicked every nest I'd found on the island but hadn't gotten one yet. We met up over by Huolon and after giving me the pet, she wished me a good day. It was unquestionably an awesome act that really did make my day. -- Thorrenbluff, Zul'jin (US-Horde)
