One Shots: Yo ho ho!

One Shots Yo ho ho!

There's probably no gulf as wide as the one between historical pirates and the pop culture versions that we venerate. As a guy who had a pirate-themed 30th birthday party, I can't say that I'm against our off-kilter brand of scallywags. Neither is reader Phinneas, who sent in our featured screenshot from Pirate101.

"These shots are of the main starting area with my fearsome pirate looking to the horizon for adventures ahead," he writes.

Best of luck to ye, laddie! May the wind be at your back, your enemies in Davey Jones' locker, and a bottle of ginger ale in your belly! Yet pirates are only the beginning of today's adventure through One Shots...

Interstellar architecture weighs heavily upon reader Cim's mind. He was entranced by the site of this structure in Star Wars: The Old Republic, writing, "These are the Gray Secant towers over Cimaira on Ilum. Compared to a certain other race of hyper-advanced sentient spaceships that Bioware created, it's on a rather more peaceful mission."

So... the towers are sentient too? That's got to make for one awkward conversation if you ever bump into one. How do you relate to a tower? I guess our inner parasites are kind of like how they have to put up with people riding their elevators up and down all the time.

Why don't you guys ever send us in pictures of Guild Wars 2? Man, I wish someone would. Such a pretty game, but there seems to be some sort of boycott against submitting screenshots of it. Pity, really.

Reader Duncan braved the strike lines to give us this picture of a foolhardy activty: "This is a picture of my Asura Mesmer, Jade Nightdreams, climbing up one of pyramids in Rata Sum to get a better look at the night sky."

And then gravity happened.

I guess it's architecture-slash-pirate day here on One Shots because Reader Pierre is also fascinated with a grand building project. The only difference is that his exists in real life as well as in the game.

"This is my favourite point of view in The Secret World from under Brooklyn bridge in New-York," he writes. "I did not check if it really compares with the real view on site, but I find it quite realistic and fully immersive. I deeply feel as if I am in NYC when I am standing here under this bridge. By the way, you can see my character, Merrideth, recently recruited by the Illuminati: quite a fashion victim indeed."

Now, I've heard the same disturbing rumor that you all have heard as well that a rival MMO website has started a column called "Two Shots." While we remain unbowed and proud here at Massively, to counter this inferior product, we will be changing the name of this column to "Three Shots Moon." Every week will contain three pictures and a full moon, which is one moon and two shots more than Two Shots. Please help this vision become a reality by submitting your in-game screenshots of full moons to add to our gallery.

Want to be featured in a future edition of One Shots? Send your favorite MMO screenshots to oneshots@massively.com, and don't forget to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of the scene. Large, colorful, UI-free shots that tell a story and really show off the game make for the best images. Look ma, we brought back One Shots!
