Refresh Roundup week of July 15th, 2013

Your smartphone and / or tablet is just begging for an update. From time to time, these mobile devices are blessed with maintenance refreshes, bug fixes, custom ROMs and anything in between, and so many of them are floating around that it's easy for a sizable chunk to get lost in the mix. To make sure they don't escape without notice, we've gathered every possible update, hack, and other miscellaneous tomfoolery we could find during the last week and crammed them into one convenient roundup. Official Android updates

  • Samsung Galaxy S 4: The ability to save apps to the microSD card is priority number one in the update that's rolling out from Eastlink, Mobilicity, Videotron and Wind Mobile. Also included, you'll find new camera firmware, Samsung Knox and various bug fixes. [Android Central, MobileSyrup]
  • HTC One: Android 4.2.2 is now rolling out within the UK, Spain and Ireland. Likewise, Sprint has released an update that brings enhanced HD Voice capabilities, along with the ability to display Sprint Music+ ringtones in the ringtones list. [Android Central, Droid Life]
  • ASUS PadFone: An update is available that brings stronger WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, along with better system stability and security fixes. [Android Police]
  • Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere II: Verizon Wireless has detailed a maintenance release that includes better mobile hotspot connectivity, a more reliable data usage meter and various bug fixes that'll enhance overall stability. [Droid Life]

Unofficial Android updates, custom ROMs and misc. hackery

Other platforms

  • Samsung ATIV S: Windows Phone 8 GDR 2 (Amber) is now available to international unlocked versions of this handset in Germany. Curiously, this update is said to lack the new Data Sense and FM Radio features. [WMPoweruser]
  • HTC 8X: The GDR 2 update has been reported by users of this smartphone in the Netherlands, which also lacks Data Sense. [WMPoweruser]
  • HTC 8S: Users in the Netherlands, Italy, Czech Republic, Slobakia and Turkey are reporting the arrival of GDR 2. [WMPoweruser]
