One Shots: Over the moon and back

Mabinogi

Welcome back to One Shots! I've missed you! I've missed you so much! It's been so long -- how long has it been, really? A week? That's far too long. Let's catch up: What have you been up to? Me? Well, I've been collecting the very best player-submitted screenshots for all to enjoy. But I guess binging on Breaking Bad is a valid use for your time too.

Reader Derrick sent in our first picture of the day from Mabinogi, and this might well be one of my favorites. Just looking at it makes me want to live a better life so that one day I might be invited to sit up there with them. "Here I am sitting in my personal homestead on Ladeca, one of the two moons of Erinn," Derrick explains.

It only gets more whimsical from here, folks! Join us as we swing on a star and see what our fellow gamers are up to in MMOs.

Rawwrrrr! Gwarrrr! WUAHHhhhrrr! Sorry, I just saw the next picture and got into the spirit of it. My dog is now significantly disturbed.

Reader Brian sent this one in of his character Pericleaves from World of Warcraft. "This is just a cool shot of one of my Orcs earlier in this expansion," he explains. "I don't even remember what this was from. A challenge at the Temple of the White Tiger, I think."

I definitely remember encountering this area in RIFT and having the exact same reaction as reader Paul, who said, "Either I have stumbled into an Aliens movie or it's time for breakfast. I am not quite sure."

That's when I was really glad that the expansion gave my Rogue a flamethrower because I was able to save the world by frying the little facehuggers before they could infect the universe. I can't say whether or not Paul escaped, however.

The eulogy for Warhammer Online continues, at least in this column, at least as long as readers send us in pictures from this late MMO. Today we have reader John to thank for this screenshot and the following memory.

"Since the shutdown, I dusted off some old screenshots," he wrote. "I have to say, WAR was the most fun of any MMOs played since because the source of fun in these games, for me, is playing with others. Oddly, WAR seemed to be the beginning of the end of the usefulness of guilds, and I wonder if that is why the community at large seems less satisfied with MMOs. Keep One Shots alive!"

Your screenshot challenge this week is to take a picture of your character in action. Forget picture-perfect poses; send us in you fighting, climbing, jumping, handstanding, what have you!
