Job listings point to Apple expanding the number of Siri supported languages
MacRumors yesterday discovered a slew of new job listings on Apple's website which suggests that the company has its eyes set on expanding the list of languages supported by Siri. The open job positions call for Siri Language Engineers and were posted on Apple's job board about two weeks ago.
The job description reads in part:
Come and join the team that teaches Siri how to understand and speak new languages. We are an extremely diverse and passionate group dedicated to bringing the future of intelligent assistants to the world. We are looking for a highly motivated engineer, expert in foreign languages and with strong software development skills to join our team.
The Siri team is specifically looking for individuals with expertise in the following languages: Thai, Turkish, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish, Dutch, Russian, Norwegian and Arabic. What's more, Apple is also looking to solidify Siri's existing language capabilities with job openings for language engineers who speak Australian and British English, Cantonese, and Japanese.
As it stands now, Siri can understand and speak various dialects of English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Canadian French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Italian and Korean.
It remains to be seen just when new language support for Siri will be rolled out, but in the meantime, Siri fans can get excited for enhanced Siri functionality in iOS 8.
