Halo: MCC to matchmake it up to players with today's updates

343 Industries plans to release "a number of server updates" today for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, with the aim of improving the problematic matchmaking. In an official forum post, Exec. Producer Dan Ayoub said the updates are due to roll out this morning (PT), and since they're server-side players won't encounter title updates or things like that.

Ayoub added the studio aims to address other "community priorities" with another update this weekend, noting that one issue is causing certain achievements to not unlock. He also apologized to players on behalf of 343 for the issues encountered since launch, re-iterating the studio's efforts to fix things ASAP.

"From everyone at 343 Industries, we are truly sorry and feel your frustration," Ayoub said. "You deserve better and we are working day and night to find solutions as quickly as possible, with our first priority focused on matchmaking improvements."

While our review praised The Master Chief Collection's Haloads of "essential" content, we also noted online matchmaking was "barely functioning" when the Xbox One compilation launched yesterday. We found matchmaking could take up to several minutes, assuming we could find a match.

"The few matches I've found have run just fine, with no noticeable connectivity problems, but actually connecting to a match is a complete crapshoot," Joystiq Reviews Master Chief Richard Mitchell said.

We also ran into infinite loading screens following a match, forcing us to reboot the game. On top of that, we were unable to set up a custom game outside of matchmaking between two Joystiq editors.

"The real treat for fans, of course, will be revisiting Halo 2's campaign and subsequently reliving the classic multiplayer," our review concluded. "Even with the matchmaking issues, and even though Halo 2's campaign has its low points, the remastered ride is worth it, and having every other main Halo game in one place is an excellent bonus (not to mention access to the impending Halo 5: Guardians beta)."
