The Queue: Challenge modes, dungeon sets, and more

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

Brace yourselves. Today's Queue comes equipped with some past-blasts.

arkainejel001 asked:

What's a good way to get a group for challenge modes before they're gone? I've asked friends and guildies but no one is interested, and pugging for it doesn't seem like a good idea.

If your friends and guildies aren't interested, that's tough. You're right that a random PUG is unlikely to do you much good. Your best bet, as mentioned by Ron2 in the comments yesterday, is to take a look at OpenRaid. While its primary purpose was to facilitate the organization of cross-realm raiding, there are people on OpenRaid looking to join/organize all sorts of cross-realm activities.

minstrel asked:

Are we sure this Warlords of Draenor stuff isn't just misdirection and when the beta starts up, it'll be The Dark Below and an underwater expansion?

Yes.

oxxo1066 asked:

I may have missed this in the news from and about WoD, but are there any enhancements to be made to the Warcraft cursor. Options to make it bigger, colorful, with trails, something that would keep it from getting lost in the aoe during raids. (Ordos is the worst.)

I haven't heard of any plans to enhance the cursor itself, but I do know Blizzard has recognized raids have gotten too flashy these days. Players don't just lose their cursor, they lose their character. The developers have said some things about trying to get that under control, so we'll see what raids look like in Warlords. I'm not sure your cursor shooting glitter and streamers all over your screen would help, really.

Of course, glitter and streamers is hyperbole. In the comments, SirBroose linked to the SnowfallCursor addon. I haven't used it myself, but it looks simple and straightforward.

Buldy asked:

Why did the lich king not use the titan artifacts in sholazar? Just the ecology and biology should be enough to spark interest to him

Have you done the quests in Sholazar? The Lich King was trying, but the Avatar of Freya repelled his forces. The Titans didn't leave their remnants unprotected.

@osheamobile asked:

If you could choose one mechanic to bring back from an earlier expansion, which would it be?

I'm going to pick something simple: Burning Crusade bombing runs. Specifically, the bombing run quests where you controlled your own mount, like the ones in Ogri'la. The ones where you're on rails are not nearly as entertaining.

I liked them because they still required active movement, paying attention to your surroundings, because you'd get knocked off of your mount and end up in trouble otherwise. For me, they didn't overstay their welcome, being only one (maybe two) of your dailies each day. When they took the on-rails approach, it was more of a passive effort, far less engaging. I'd like to see them come back. I know there were plenty of people who didn't like them, though. For the sake of those people, maybe it's good they're gone.

@maintorcia asked:

What are your thoughts about dungeon sets? Was nice having set bonuses independent of tier sets and PVP gear.

I loved dungeon sets! They made it feel like you were making some progression with your class prior to raiding. They were never best-in-slot dungeon pieces, but I still really enjoyed collecting them. I felt like a champ when I finished my Devout set way back in vanilla, even though I'd already progressed into Molten Core, rendering the whole thing irrelevant.
