"Sir, finishing this fight," were the last words uttered by Master Chief in Halo 2's campaign before fading to black and leaving players with a three year wait until Halo 3 arrived on the Xbox 360 in 2007. Halo 2 was a mountain of surprises, featuring a playable protagonist in the Arbiter and a final level devoid of Master Chief's presence, the franchise's iconic hero.
Despite the infamous history behind the game's conclusion, 343 Industries will not be making any changes to the story in specific games included in the package, and here's why:
"Has anything been added to that ending?" I asked during a demo of the upcoming November 11 release.
"Yeah, Halo 3," 343 Industries Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor joked.
The Master Chief Collection will, however, add narrative bookends for the complete collection that flesh out the story for 2015's Halo 5: Guardians. The Collection also includes hidden terminals in Halo 2 Anniversary that offer a look into the past of Master Chief's alien buddy, the Arbiter.
