Hand-made wood turntables are the newest scratching post

Sure, your hip friends who live in that converted loft downtown have a record player -- but odds are they don't own an artisanal turntable crafted by a father-and-son team from the wood of an American black walnut tree. This is the type of turntable that Silvan Audio Workshop makes, and it's the type that the company is attempting to fund on Kickstarter right now. Kent Walter and his father seek $14,000 by March 22 to expand their workshops and produce turntables with more efficiency and speed, for all your home decor and record-spinning needs.

The Walters construct everything in their three turntable models by hand, with the goal to create visual art along with quality audio output. Each model contains parts by Rega, a high-end, UK-based turntable and audio equipment manufacturer. The three models are The Archer, The Champion and The Sampo, and they're each available, in highly limited quantities, as part of the Kickstarter campaign's reward tiers. Get The Archer for a $750 pledge, grab The Champion for $1,000, and snag The Sampo for $2,250, but note that there are only four Archers, three Champions and two Sampos up for grabs at the time of publication.

So far, the Silvan Audio Workshop Kickstarter has raised more than $4,000 with 27 days to go. If you're interested in doing things before they're cool, maybe jump on this retro-chic audiophile opportunity now.
