Amazon FreeTime comes to Android to distract more kids

Amazon FreeTime is bound to entertain a lot more kids than it used to now that it's available on Android phones and tablets. The subscription service for kids and tweens could only be accessed through Kindles, Fire tablets and Fire TVs before this. Now that it's out on Google Play, you can hand your children any Android device so they can watch curated videos and read age-appropriate books. Take note the the app itself is free and comes with parental controls, as well as a selection of 40,000 YouTube videos and websites that the FreeTime team hand picked. However, the FreeTime Unlimited service that gives kids access to over 10,000 books and videos will set you back $3 per month.
In addition to parental controls that lets you set time restrictions for each kind of available content -- say, 30 minutes for videos and two hours for books -- it also has a bunch of other filters you can toggle. There's an age filter to make sure your kid doesn't have access to anything meant for tweens and even an education filter that hides entertainment content until your kid has read enough educational materials.
The Android app will also get the discussion cards Amazon launched in April, which contain info on the show or book your kid watched or read. That way, you can have a meaningful discussion without having to read or watch Dora or Splat the Cat yourself.
