To start the quest, go see Orphan Matron Mercy at the orphanage in the Lower City of Shattrath.
It seems that you have agreed to sponsor a Blood Elf Orphan. Accepting the quest will give you the Blood Elf Orphan Whistle.
Your Blood Elf Orphan Whistle summons Salandria, a precocious little Blood Elf girl. There are no variations on this. We all get to sponsor Salandria and learn her story -- or the beginning of it.
When you turn in the initial quest to Salandria, your reputation with Lower City will increase by 10 and she will offer you 3 quests.
One of the first places Salandria would like to go is Sporeggar in Zangarmarsh to visit her friend from the orphanage, Hch'uu.
The closest Flight Path is Zabra'jin and Sporeggar is due west of there. Summon Salandria and go near the middle of town. When she is close enough to Hch'uu, they will chat for a bit and you will be able to turn in the quest.
Completing the quest will get you some exp/cash and a reputation increase of 250 with Lower City.
Salandria also wants to see the Throne of the Elements, just north of Garadar in Nagrand.
This is the first inkling that Salandria is not all that she seems. She charges straight for Incineratus who proceeds to give her a warning shot.
After Salandria gets singed, you can complete the quest with Elementalist Sharvak, receiving exp/cash and 250 more rep with Lower City.
Salandria doesn't believe the scary stories of the Dark Portal and would like you to take her there.
In order to get the quest to activate here, you must walk straight up the middle of the stairs and walk toward the middle of the portal. Otherwise you will be running around with everyone else trying to get your question mark to turn gold.
Completing the Dark Portal quest with Salandria will get you the same exp/cash and 250 rep with Lower City.
Salandria now has two more quests for you. She wants to travel to Azeroth to visit the Caverns of Time and Silvermoon City.
Salandria wants to meet a dragon at the Caverns of Time. And really, who wouldn't? After all, dragons are cool.
The best part about visiting the Caverns of Time is the dragonride. Clearly.
Can there really be enough pictures of me flying around on dragons?
It is made obvious that Salandria has an ominous future when the Wardens of Time attack her when we try to get close to Zaladormu. Happily, everything turns out OK.
Zaladormu is very imposing when he's not napping.
Salandria is back to behaving like a normal child by asking for a toy souvenir. Of course, she ominously predicts she will own a dragon someday, so we have an inkling of the trouble she will get into in the future.
Giving the Toy Dragon to Salandria gets you the same exp/cash prize and the 250 rep with Lower City.
When Salandria grows up, it seems she will not only own a dragon but possibly be a rock star. So we are going to visit the Elite Tauren Chieftain in Silvermoon City.
The Elite Tauren Chieftain are on a terrace near the front entrance to the city and their manager is hanging out below. As soon as you get close, Salandria runs ahead and starts chatting up the manager.
Salandria then gets the attention of the band, declaring her intentions.
She then performs in the spotlight for our favorite band. This is all taking place of last year's Silvermoon quest where she met the Blood Knights.
Ah the hopes of youth. You will receive the same cash or exp from completing this quest and another 250 Lower City rep.
And now the little dear would like to return home to the orphanage. If only I hadn't just used my hearthstone...
When you head back to the Lower City and see Orphan Matron Mercy, you can complete the quest and say goodbye to Salandria. You will receive the same cash/exp reward, 500 Lower City rep and a choice of three companions: Egbert, Peanut and Sleepy Willy.
Peanut was my choice this year. He is a cute little Elekk who sometimes makes noise and rears up on his hind legs.
Sleepy Willy was my choice from last year. He makes an odd noise when you click on him and he tends to fall asleep a lot.
Though he is awake sometimes too.
And then there's Egbert modeling with his companion Espressa, who kindly took some time out so that I could take this picture. Egbert runs around all excitedly every once in a while and isn't quite out of his egg yet.
The next day, I received this lovely thank you note from Salandria informing me that somehow those Blood Knights did learn of her existence and that she will be training with them. I hope that when she grows up to be a scary dragon-owning, time-ruining Blood Knight that she will remember me fondly and give me a nice spot in the new world order.
