This map shows where the lands of Forochel lie in Middle-earth. They are north of Evendim in Eriador. This area is for levels 44-50 with a combination of solo and group content.
Forochel is the first landmass in the game that allows players to see the ocean. It is inhabited by the Lossoth that have adapted to the wintry conditions. The harsh environment makes adventurers vulnerable to cold damage. Players must warm up from campfires, thermal vents and through other methods to ward off the cold.
Holder of a ring of power, Arvedui was told not to travel by boat to Forochel. Looks like neither the boat, nor Arvedui fared too well. He is part of the new Epic quest line.
Combat with this creature includes its rider raining down spears from above.
Part way through the fight, the rider dismounts and there are two targets to fight.
Lossoth, the Men in the icy wastes of Forochel, are new faction in the game. They have more rewards than any other faction in the game including new armor, new trophies and a new bear combat pet for Lore-masters and a Lossoth Herald for Captains. Faction will be gained in many ways including daily repeatable quests.
This agent of the Angmar's Witch-king has come seeking the ring of the Last King. And he'll kill whoever is in his way. After a long speech.
New blizzard environmental effects are introduced in Book 13.
Occasionally the new blizzard effects ramp up to almost whiteout intensity.
Denziens of the icy wastes will try to stomp you into bits. Fighting near the thermal vents will debuff the giants, reducing their damage output.
The harsh conditions of Forochel will eat away at even the most hearty adventurers. Thermal vents placed along the geography can help players warm up again.
Turbine modeled the Lossoth after the Finnish when it came to names. They also voiced them with Finnish accents.Tolkien only briefly mentioned the people in his books which gave the developers free rein to flesh out the culture of these peoples.
Superior ovens have a different look in Lossoth. This will come in handy with the bounty from the new fishing hobby.
Some NPCs are getting unique icons over their head for easier identification.
A trophy that drops very rarely from a Forochel Mammoth.
Kindred standing with the Lossoth will net you this.
Drops very rarely from the Guaredain in Forochel.
New fishing trophies can be fished up. And this is the man who will give you a mounted fish trophy for them.
You should have seen the one that got away...
A very rare Fishing trophy.
Turbine is introducing its first Hobby to the game: Fishing. Players can fish in any body of water in the game. There will be events, trophies and recipes for the caught fish.
The Northern Lights of Forochel are breath taking at night.
A bit of fun by the devs. Click on this npc will cause him to fall down.
The Monster Players finally get a healing class in the newly introduced Orc Defiler. With three heal over times that stack plus debuffs, damage spells and a staff attack, they are a welcome addition to the PvMP line up. Expect new tactics from the Freeps to deal with this latest menace. If you haven't seen it yet, check out <a href="http://www.massively.com/2008/04/21/massively-goes-hands-on-with-lotro-book-13-video/">our video of the tour</a> or more info on <a href= http://www.massively.com/tag/lotro-book-13/">Book 13</a>.
